I don't understand what happened there. Mind to explain?
@madara792
@madara792 4 года назад
@@enditrianto Its called a "walk". You intentionally throw 4 balls (pitches outside the strikezone) to let them "walk" to first base to avoid having that hitter (usually really good ones) hit something like a homerun or a hit far enough to let another teammate on base to score (an RBI). Its not uncommon to "walk" a batter in a game but in this case, walking a batter for 3-4 games in a row is extremely rare and also means that they were definitely terrified of Bryce that series and didn't want to take any chances. Hope that helps

When it comes to Beltrae getting that strike 3 call when he called that late time out. I totally agree with Ump that call needs to be done more often. When the pitcher stops his process late it's called a bock but when a batter does it late nothing happens. That takes the pitcher out of his mindset and it could even injure him.

I looked at the angle of 11:15 frame-by-frame (you can do this with the , and . keys, for the curious). I saw the fielder's glove hit the runner's forearm a single frame before the runner touches the base. Just from that, I think "out" is the correct call. But like I said, it was just a single frame of difference. Whatever the umpire says isn't going to be overturned in such a close play, and in this case he called the runner out.

@@MaverickJ3W No such thing as "tie goes to the runner".
@MaverickJ3W
@MaverickJ3W 5 лет назад
@@alanhess9306 While there is no explicit rule that claims "the tie goes to the runner", rule 7.01 says that he is safe if reaching base “before he is out.” Under rule 7.08, we know that he is only “out” if “he or the next base is tagged before he touches the next base” (rule 6.05 is similar). So, if he reaches the base before [he is out because he was tagged or the base was tagged before he reached the base] then he is safe. In other words, if it’s a tie, he is safe. I think it’s a little confusing, but I think it’s the best reading, and it allows the rules to be consistent. Those two rules (6.05 (j) and Rule 7.08 (e)) are not at all vague - “before” isn’t a word with multiple interpretations. By saying that the runner is out when the bag is tagged “before” he touches it, he is not out if there is a tie - thus, ties go to the runner. If the rule instead defined him as safe when he touches the bag “before” the ball got there, then the tie would go to the defense. The burden of proof here is explicitly on the defensive side. So yes, actually there is most definitely such a thing as "the tie goes to the runner", even if there's no explicit rule with these words.
@alanhess9306
@alanhess9306 5 лет назад
@@MaverickJ3W You are absolutely correct.... technically. But a human is incapable of determining a "tie" within .4 of a second. When a play is that close, umpires will normally get an out. One team is going to complain either way, so you might as well call the out. That's the way it works in the real world.
@MaverickJ3W
@MaverickJ3W 5 лет назад
@@alanhess9306 You're right, it's far too hard for our eyes to see the difference in real time, it's even hard in slow motion. And you're right that there's arguments that can be made for both sides, basically depending on your interpretation of the rule books language. I wouldn't necessarily say "that's how the real world works" per se, but there's only two options (out or safe) obviously, and you're right the side that the call goes against will argue. This is just my interpretation of the rule, and I'm not a professional umpire.
