Video gaming is going down the crapper to be sure... they expect us to pay a lot of money for unfinished games or underwhelming games or copycat roster updates. I am seriously considering just selling my Series X and just sticking with PC entirely. THAT BEING SAID, your piece about the Negro League playthroughs is SPOT ON... loved that in 23!!!
The only people that enjoy the game are the guys that spend money on extra unnecessary stuff. Every sport game has rng and it always favors the higher spender
Doesn't help how critical we've become critiquing games, if the game isn't perfect we call it trash and pick it apart, we're equally to blame for the state of gaming
I've had the most fun of any sports franchise mode in my life playing Eras. It's insane how many games I play and enjoy. I've played a full season every game and am halfway through the second season playing with the Bulls in the Bird/Magic era. I can't imagine it being better.
Same. 2k I gave up awhile ago & I don’t miss it whatsoever. Madden doesn’t need an explanation but the Show is the most fun & realistic out of the 3 imo
Nobody should ever compare the Show to Madden. The on the field play is miles better in the Show and the presentation while basic is still leagues ahead of Madden. But other than that it definitely is starting to feel stale and in reality the game hasn’t felt fresh since 21.
The game is okay. The commentary is repetitive. This game has been going downhill for years. Judging by the reviews, it's going to be another low rating for mlb to the show 24. Sadly, this game has gotten worse over the past few years.
I strongly disagree. Madden may have some scummy microtransaction tactics but that game was WAY more polished than the show this year. And at least it looks next gen. Mlb the show is stuck in 2019 and the a.i in mlb is some of the worst I've ever seen. Fielders taking the wrong first step for no reason, outfielders randomly running the ball all the way to the infield for no reason, throws randomly delayed, foul balls crashing games in co-op. I could go on and on. I've easily ran into more issues with the show in 3 weeks than I did in Madden for 5 months.
It’s a decent game as well as 04. It would’ve been awesome if they included something similar to the PCI though. I didn’t like the frame rate for those games though. Wish it was a lot smoother The show might be better than madden.
@@anthonygray6570Even if that is the case, which I doubt there's ever been a purple sky anywhere before, that was video from Camden Yards in Baltimore, MD, where I have lived my entire life....and the skies have never, ever looked like that.
They will have updated rosters about two weeks after the season starts. That's how the MLBPA works. That's why they didn't put Yamamoto on the Dodgers until after the Seoul Series.
I used to buy MLB The Show yearly back on the PS2 & PS3 but I stopped because it's going downhill & the same can be said for all sports games. There's still no rained out games/doubleheaders &no career stats for batter vs. pitcher & vice versa.
@@Chuida17 the fact that you typed this out, looked at it and then still sent it is almost impressive. I don't know if you've never been in a debate or any kind of argument before but to contrive a strawman argument like this and not even have the intellectual wherewithal to understand the fallacy between comparing a gender that has never done one thing Vs an individual never have done that thing is pitiful and I feel sorry for your limitations.
@@Midnight7Marauder the fact that you write paragraphs about women being an optional character, in a fantasy mode where you can create yourself in the mlb, yet crying that it’s unrealistic is the sad part. You’re 5’4 305 you ain’t in the league either.
Unfortunately this is extremely common with modern day sports games due to the lack of competition. They don't need to make any groundbreaking changes because they will still get plenty of people to buy their game because it is the only one that is made for that professional sport. We sadly have EA in full control of NHL, UFC, NFL simulation video games, 2K for NBA simulation games and Sony for MLB simulation. Golf has some competition between EA and 2K but they both still lack severely in the multiplayer space with 2K having a lead there while EA firmly has the lead graphically speaking. With little to no competition you can get away with changing of some colors/screens, tightening up some animations while providing very minor updates to gameplay/modes then go ahead and slap a $69.99 price tag on it for the base version and still expect decent sales. It is disappointing but we also have to accept reality.
There’s this glitch in battle royal where if you put in a two way player to pitch mid game, their stamina is lasts long enough to last the whole game. Still an issue in 24 and this started in the beginning of 23. SDS is totally neglecting to fix issues
@@Amb252this game is godsent compared to fifa. No sports game is perfect because greed exists, but the way SDS handles this game compared to EA is a joke.
Kyle Bradish is in the game---88 overall. He's on the Tides (Triple A). As far as the game, I've seen a lot of people complain about the User Interface being too bright. Diamond Dynasty is annoying because of huge XP limits, computer pitchers throwing too many balls, server issues. The storylines are amazing. The game play seems a little better but I've had a lot of good fouls. My first perfect was a foul ball lol.
You are wrong about the narrative you are putting out about the Yankees. First of all, before Buck managed the Yankees & before the core four, the team was going through a dark phase. First, they had to draft Derek Jeter in the MLB draft, and they also signed Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera all in the international draft. It wasn’t until George Steinbrenner was suspended that Gene Michael finally had a chance to change the Yankees landscape forever. They started to get younger and began to turn around the organization. Did they have their players that they signed in free agency at times? Yes, but they won back-to-back World Series because of some of those MLB drafts that they had. The Yankees at that time, when they drafted Jeter & others, were total underdogs & the dominance they had afterward should be documented in a storyline. I bet you would have a different narrative if it were Cal Ripken or somebody like that.
The ball didn’t hit you. You should have watched the replay. The catcher missed the pitch so it hit the glove and fell out or off if he closed the mitt too soon.
There is a solution. People aren't going to like it. Force these companies to adapt. Clearly having a short turnaround development cycle for these games is not doing them or the fans any favors. The game doesn't change enough for there to be any justification for purchasing it. Force these companies into a new direction. Stop buying the game every year. Force them to release a game every few years. Between those years, have them release a moderately priced roster update. Maybe there are some stadium packs or uniform packs that need to be adjusted during that time. This allows the company to still produce revenue for little effort, gamers don't feel ripped off, and then once that period for a new game comes out, there is time to really think about and hash out the new features. Ultimately it is going to come down to consumers. If you keep buying it, whether it is outright, or through some discount, it counts as a sale, and these companies get their money, so they are going to keep doing the same thing. Don't keep doing the same thing and expect something different.
I absolutely enjoy the game. Heck, I don't even like REAL baseball but I love this game haha. I agree that the pitches seem to have more variance. In mini-seasons, I literally took 9 balls *in a row!* Two batters straight-up walked. I've also seen a *LOT* more hit-by-pitches this year over previous. At launch (they may have toned it down after the first patch) I was honest-to-god getting hit once per (3-inning) game! One subtle thing I think they changed was to heavily tone down the non play-related commentary. (Thank god). The random anecdotes used to be so common that after about 20 games you could recite them yourself. Now it's many many games before I hear something again. I wish there was a slider setting or option to only have play-by-play commentary and no "color" commentary, because the play-by-play is *really* good. 99% of the time I don't even have to look at the stat/score board to know what's happening or the situation.
I downloaded it on Game pass and I think the one thing that bothers me right now is I have to sit and wait for the season to start to play with my actual roster because the only player that's been implemented into the game right now is Yamamoto, no lee and no imanaga I will probably buy it down the line though just because I haven't bought an MLB game since 21 and I'm just kind of getting over the franchise scouting in that game I do think it's a smart idea to not buy 24 if you own 23 But I'm not going to say it's not worth buying if the last MLB game you had was three four years ago because you're going to see a massive difference if that's the case
IMO, the biggest changes you'll have noticed over the last 2 years is the universal DH making your bench a bit more superfluous especially in ranked games, and the relief pitcher rule about 3 batters. This causes the new meta in every lineup you face online to be LRLRL or a lot more switch hitters because you can't have lefty or righty specialists just come in for a batter or two. If you bring in Aaron Loup or Jake Diekman types, they will most likely have to face a tough rightie or switch hitter in those three AB's, or with the DH allowing for a deeper bench, even if you bring them in to get the last out of the inning the offense has a lot more flexibility to pinch hit with a 5 deep bench and no need to PH for pitchers. This is a tough call on this game though because the gameplay IMO is so fun, I don't expect them to rebuilt or revolutionize the game every year. It's the cleanest simulation baseball experience, but I don't know exactly where they can push ahead the player experience outside of storylines. I'd love to see a lot more investment into Franchise and RTTS (where RTTS feels IMO worse than I remember it even 5-6 years ago)
Ramon Russell is more concerned about adding a left wing social agenda into the game and pushing DD than improving the game for die hard fans like myself who just want as realistic of a baseball game as possible. The backdrops are the same from the ps3 era. The animations are absolutely horrible and have been since mlb 13 the show. The grass and dirt look exactly the same since 14. We FINALLY got hair movement in the game but it only works with like 10 players….. there is some improvement this year but let’s face it, since 2k has left the game Sony San Diego has gotten lazy. Time for a leadership change and it starts with Ramone
Fielders reaction time is way better this year it makes a huge difference not as many lazy animations you can’t really run 2nd to home on a ground ball out to 1st anymore I got hosed
Seeing the downturn of quality with The Show reminds me why I'm glad my baseball stuff comes from MLB Showdown using the Showdown Bot to make whoever I want to play with. It's a tabletop game, yes, but it's more fun than most video games I've played lately.
@@zlocesti_djedica I'd much rather pay monthly for game pass and be able to play brand new games that isn't worth 70 + dollars then to go out and actually spend 70 plus dollars on games that isn't worth the price
Outside of the NFL and their constant rule changes, most sports are fairly consistent year in and out. Eventually there isn't much more you can add in to justify a $70 price tag for a game each year unless you are playing online.
I wish EA and 2k would both make a game again just to put a little competition out there. I’m not saying they would be good, but at least there would be variety. I remember on the 64 PS1 and PS2 I had every NFL and MLB game they made, and they all brought something different to the table.
So far the only problem I have with the game is I traded for JP Sears and the commentator calls him by number and there is no way to costomize name audio .
Two games in and I’m barely not having any issues with the game. I’ve only seen one glitch and that when you’re looking at replay and the batter has back turned to the pitcher while having his head face the pitcher, looks funny but painful irl. Other than that, I’m enjoying the game. I’ve bought it because I still think MLB the show is the best sports game that replicates the authentic experience of the league it presents. They’re a year late with implementing the MLB rule changes but that’s okay.
While I agree with all the points you made i still lean towards the show as my favorite AAA sports game. The smoothness of the player movement, passion put into certain game modes, less arcadey feel, and deeper franchise mode keep me coming back. Not for 70 tho, I’ll catch it on a holiday sale
I haven’t brought a MLB the show game since the PSP one with Ryan Howard on the cover! Though gaming as a whole is going down the crapper, the passion and time taken to get things right aren’t there as much as before. I think I’ll stick to 360, ps2 and PC gaming at this rate!
No, I'd suggest that they play the older versions of this game. Now, if they start focusing on other modes besides diamond dynasty, then maybe the game will make a comeback.
I had stopped playing baseball a while ago just decided to pick up the show 24 because it was free on game pass since I’ve been playing it I’m starting to get back into it
It's kind of nitpicky... and I didn't really know how to feel about it... but I noticed they took out the postseason and world series exclusive scoreboards. They added in patches for uniforms in the postseason, but they all say "2023" which seems really lazy to me.
I play RTTS every year, and there hasn't been one error by an outfielder. Not in 23' or 24'. Even in franchise I RARELY see a dropped flyball in the outfield. Anybody else have that experience?
I'm not giving MLB The Show a free pass, but there's only so much in-game features that can be included in a baseball simulation before there's nothing "new" left to include. I can say the same for any sports simulation. Again, I'm not saying it's an excuse not to include common sense features, but there's a creative sealing that'll eventually be reached. 🙂
Hey Ryan I’m with you when you right an I normally agree with you an most of what you said was accurate but they have included the pitch clock and Kyle Bradish is also in this years game
Switch players still cannot play DD they haven't heard anything from SDS for 4 days now. Not only that they promote twitch streamers for twitch drops weekend but the drops are not max 4 or 5 a day like before but 5 for the whole weekend. So if im a streamer I'm pissed because people will only watch your stream for the 5 packs in one day instead of watching every day for 10-15 packs for the whole weekend.
Ryan, Didn't buy the game this year, 1st time since 2018 and for alot of the same reasons you mention. Is this a live service game? Sure feels like one, if so why do we pay for a new game every year? Why would it not be considered a live service game, seasons, not being able to use cards you earned already etc...?
This company and game lost my purchase the second they felt including the ability to play as a female before there was an online franchise, that's been missing since 2017, happened.
I dont have a problem with what they've added this year where i find issue is they removed online franchise year to year saves ownership features pertaining to training facilities which had an affect on recovery time based on the condition of said facilities travel options which had a affect on player stamina seating options mostly adding more concession stands advertising on scoreboards and around the stadium and adding more employees to help around the stadium also and fan engagement facilities like pitch speed or rock climb or bouncy houses and you could upgrade the locker room also i may be missing some but all this was in the game and somewhere between mlb 12 and mlb 16 they just removed it they're whole reasoning was we wanted to simplify franchise 😂. Like thats the whole reason there's multiple user control options when you start your franchise otherwise you have a shell which is where we are now they too the ea route and now their most highlighted features for franchise are more simulation options and a awards tab 😂😂 they've become as lazy or worse than ea when it comes to features the only thing they have on them is the gameplay is much better but i must admit that even ea is at least bringing back some things that were in the game over a decade ago. This no competition thing is terrible for games and its ruined madden and pretty much ruining the show. Anyone who says its not a big deal never got to play this game when it had all the features heck rtts just got a similar scouting combine that it had years ago back the major difference is before the games you actually have to do drills which is great but the games yiu play were already in the game at one point. So if you have a xbox dont buy it play it on gamepass anything else just play one of the klder ones there's not enough to warrant spending money on this year's game
Unfortunately, no sports game is good enough to buy annually. I haven’t bought this game since 2020. But I did get 24 due to fact im a huge baseball fan and wanted a baseball game to play. But I definitely won’t buy it next year if it’s going to still look like a current gen game.
I bought it cuz it was my first year with a PS5 but it got boring real quick. It’s turning into Madden unfortunately. DD is the same cards, franchise mode hasn’t changed, the gameplay is essentially the same. I even created the wrestler Chyna as a RTTS hitter and got bored after 2 games lol. The game just feels kinda lifeless just like Madden. I was so disappointed I bought a shooter game (RoboCop) which I loved as a kid in the late 80’s and I’ve had a blast with it so far.
As soon as you see any of these developers release a sports game primarily with new features that have absolutely NOTHING to do with authenticity to the sport itself you know you shouldn't even consider picking up a copy. I'm still playing 18...I've watched plenty of gameplay from all the releases after...nothing has changed at all.
I refuse to buy this until they upgrade to next gen graphics which are way overdue.I will keep updating rosters in the vault and keep playing 2023.All these sports games with monopolies need competion in the worst way but typical nowadays with suoer.greedy corporate scum.
It was the best sports game. Im crazy about the show and can still play through franchise. Very adjustable difficulty levels. But the show is becoming the baseball of Madden. Bc its gained such popularity and had the new contract with the MLB
If you don't to upgrade I understand. I love the show. I pay for ps5 and switch. My biggest gripe is I want a steam or Xbox Pc version. To play on the go with my steam deck, Legion Go or Ally Rog.
Yeah, I still haven't bought (it's May 17, 2024 for all of those in the future). I, also, usually pre-order the game but I decided to wait until reactors...reacted to the game. I feel it isn't worth the complete $70 plus tax, especially if you play online.
Thankful for game pass - yeah, I know, I still pay for it but it allows me to play these games for a small period of time and not commit to it long term unless it earns the $ and when gamepass is $4 a month for ultimate where I buy it, I can justify it.
I love this game, the Negro league Storylines are Goat tear, all I will say is the graphics for a 70$ game could be better, my jerseys look horrible sometimes but, the reason I love MLB the show is bc they know, IF ITS NOT BROKE DONT FIX IT, they stay the course and that's why 2k struggles bc they don't know that imo
Basically it's a roster update with new tweaks here and there.... They have to include classic old World Series teams into this game.. With the ability to play in franchise mode. Similar to the ability that nba 2K gives you with classic teams
That was a dropped pitch 4:00, it clearly didn't hit him. Jeter story is a great addition but I agree, Yankees blow :). The big difference between The Show vs other sports games is that it has the mechanics and gameplay nailed which allows small additions and then big ones with the story lines with the negro leagues, women league, and individual player stories. Madden 11 had fun individual player moments to recreate before that engine was ripped out. Madden has been piling on the corpse of Madden 25's skeleton for literally a decade to the point the next Madden is going to be called that. The Show is comfortably in a league of it's own in the sports game market, and I buy OOTP every year. I'll hold the Madden rant but it's hilarious Madden 25's "true step player motion" (on the back of the box) has caused it's stiff terrible gameplay for a decade now.
i appreciate you shedding more light on the negro league storylines, regardless if people want to cry woke it is a super important part of history of the game.
If your playing on game pass YOU WILL LOOSE 100% of the time against people that paid for it. This game is garbage you can tell in the 2nd inning wether your gonna loose or not
You are coping...those animations have been there for 4 years. Nothing done in Franchise...NOTHING. No new RTTS EXCEPT for WOMEN, who have never, will never be in MLB...but I got ponytails and foundation makeup for create a player...f this studio
Why are you glad that it’s there if it’s pointless and no one wants to play it? Why can’t anyone just come out and say it? It was a complete waste of time. How many hundreds of hours did they put into women characters that no one is going to play? Meanwhile, there is so many things wrong with the game still. Simple stuff. The announcers are wrong more often. The graphics are covering up your ratings so you can’t even see contact verse right handers… The font is a joke. Who was the genius that decided to use font that you can’t read, these are elementary mistakes
