1:54 Since when are you supposed to catch it in the palm? I know for a fact if you do, it will hurt extremely bad considering the ball was hit hard enough to break the leather.
the whole reason why webs were added to baseball gloves were for this exact play. ive seen people break their hands catching hard hit balls in the palm before. really not sure what kind of advice the broadcaster is giving on that one

Good advice, dont catch a hard hit line drive in the palm. Thats how you break your hand. The web exists for that reason. You just have to relace the glove when they get worn down a lot

Almost every comment is about at 1:50 how the announcer said you're suppost to catch it in the palm and not the webbing when you are suppost to catch it in the webbing
The announcer means the palm of the glove, which, like your hand, is the center area below the fingers. It's also called the pocket. You don't intend to catch it in the webbing. And yes, this commentator played baseball -- shortstop, at that, so they irony of all these people saying he doesn't know baseball after these types of comments is pretty hilarious. Go ahead and try to always catch it in the webbing and see how many times you make an error. You want to catch it in the center of the glove to minimize ricochets or flat-out missing it. Why would you aim to catch it two or three inches from the edge of the glove?
No guys the commentator wasn’t being serious about catching in the palm of the glove lol. If I weren’t an orioles fan I would think he’s serious too but he’s got a dry sense of humor. In fact the commentator, Mike Bordick, played shortstop in the majors for over 13 years and was the guy who took over Cal Ripken’s spot when he moved over to 3rd base.
I’ve played baseball for 2 years and I was taught to catch the ball right in the web of the glove. In that little pocket where the web meets the leather. I’ve tried catching in the palm and not only does it hurt, it bounces out.

What's sad about the majority of the comments is that they have no clue about how to field or catch a ball what so ever!! In fielding the ball off of a ground ball that you can get in front of the palm is uses to redirect the ball into your throwing hand. Done correctly having "SOFT HANDS" you have a very quick transfer to throw the ball. A direct line drive, backhand or forehand(glove side) play you have to catch the ball before you can transfer to throw but those can also be done with soft hands most of the time. A glove malfunction is not because they caught the ball wrong but lack of glove maintenance or a weak spot in a lace.
