MLF BFL Kentucky Lake March 25th 2023 Bass Tournament

Kentucky Lake is making a comeback. I decided to jackpot this MLF BFL and see what this lake had to offer. A good old fashioned Spring monsoon swept through the area, dropping several inches of rain before this bass tournament. This made the bass fishing a little challenging. Trolling motor issues added to that challenge.

This is a good example to make sure and do all your checks day before you start a tournament. You handled the situation with class & integrity. I guess that’s how it is sometimes, but would still be frustrating. You caught 2 good fish early. Thanks for sharing. Great content for others who might get in this situation and a good way to handle it. Congratulations on the check!!!!! Nice surprise.

Agree Steph. I was slightly disappointed but happy to catch a few. The longer you fish the more times problems like this arise.

Good ending to a rough day of fishing. I've been there had one day the battery power switch imploded shut down the big motor. Check it out and fixed it with some ingenuity and electrical tape and was able to make it back to the ramp. Caught a nice one by the launch😊 but there wasn't a check involved. Great video and thanks for sharing.

Did you fish the Jet-A-Marina tournament this past weekend? My youngest and I fished it. We had a good thing going during pre-fishing, caught over 20 on Wednesday, 18 on Thursday and over 20 on Friday. All running different things, making sure not to beat up any specific pattern. On Saturday morning the lake came up nearly 2 feet and the water temp tanked 10° in the #1 pocket we found a few females that had pushed shallow in. Ended up out on main lake points with a trap the last 2 hours and caught 2 small keepers. That's just how it goes sometimes. My boy lost a tank of a smallie on an a-rig that probably went over 6. She just barely got the hook in her mouth, that fish would've put us close to the cut line. One thing's for sure, I'm very excited to see KY Lake back on the upswing after it's been down for so long.
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty Год назад
I did not Jimmy. It's tough when a solid pattern goes away. That's a giant small jaw. Sorry it jumped off. Those fish are crazy!!! I'm with you on Kentucky Lake. We just need some grass and look out!!!

A good old anchor in the boat will help in this situation. At least you can make 10 casts instead of 5 without resetting 😅. I’m keeping one in my boat nowadays for situation like this.

I was looking forward to this one since I heard you discuss it on the live cast. You handled it well. Not sure I could have. Only thing I would have done different is I would have asked if he would allow me to splice the wires together and eliminate the plug and receptacle.
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty Год назад
Just one of those things that happens. Brent, I did offer to eliminate the plug n splice wires. He was just unsure about messing with it and didn't feel comfortable letting me modify his boat. I've done it several times but I understand his concerns.

Always have tools in your boat! A cheapo volt meter ,some side cutters and electrical tape and you can work a solution to just about any electrical problem on a boat.

Man I feel your pain brother. I fish the Music City and Mountain divisions on the boater side. We had a tournament on Dale Hollow April 1st. The tournament should have been cancelled due to wind but wasn't. I've never ran a boat in water that dangerous. Granted I have a 19 foot Ranger so not a big boat. We fished til about 11 and didn't have to check in until 3:45. I decided to get back close to weigh in because I knew it would take a while and I didn't know exactly how long. Well the lake was so rough that I tried idling but water was just pouring over the sides. I felt I had no choice but to get on plane. In the first 500 yards I speared 3 waves. The 3rd wave completely filled the boat. My boat was so full the transom was sagging and the splash well was submerged and the hole in the top of my splash well isn't sealed to water was continuing to pour in that hole. I couldn't ever get ahead of the water with my bilge. My coangler was a young guy pretty freaked out thinking we would sink. I assured him it sucked but we wouldn't sink.
@joshuanewsome5298
@joshuanewsome5298 Год назад
So we had to idle all the way back and when we got back the lake was so rough and the little pockets out of the wind were full of boats so we checked in at 2:10. Luckily we both caught enough fish to get a check for the 4 hours that we did fish. My battery compartment stayed full of water and everything was submerged but the only damage was a couple blown fuses and my battery charger was toast. I'm very disappointed in MLF because the weather was expected. We had sustained 30-40 mph wind with gusts well over 50. Had I been in a boat that could sink then it without a doubt would have. A kayaker actually lost his life that day because of the weather
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty Год назад
WOW That's a crazy story.
@TheTinHorseMonty
@TheTinHorseMonty Год назад
I'm surprised MLF let the tournament go on. They cancelled one a few years ago for the same reason.

@TheTinHorseMonty

It’s a lot better than it was a few years ago but still has a ways to go. It may not return to the glory days. Grass would really help.

15th i thouht so you would have won that, just bad luck bAck to back keepers right there i think 5 were there but, if ifs and butz were candy and nutz, i dont miss the trail and it was to many of days like you just had i honestly feel that you would have taken that trophy in that one stretch there rule 6 never leave a back to back keeper location unless you got 5 in the well, i know that wasnt your call to make but, the front of the boat should have known that.

I have always said, that having a bit of mechanical knowledge is part of controlling the variables. Since both parts of the plug were likely in need of replacement, should have cut both out, and just wired direct . a 10 minute fix!

We had no tools in the boat Jim. I offered to splice the wires together, assuming the tools I had in my truck would’ve been capable of removing the panel. It was a triangle torque head. He didn’t want to take the risk of messing things up more. Gotta respect his decision cause it wasn’t my boat. Understandable.
