I was in the audience at Stanford on that day. I will not forget it. We've made lots of progress since then, but the struggle is not over. The deep-rooted problems Dr. King mentioned have not disappeared, but they are more widely acknowledged today. This speech is as relevant today as it was in 1967. We should all listen again and remind ourselves that we have a duty to promote human rights not only in law, but even more importantly in daily life. Thank you, Dr. King.
This is a version of Dr. King's activism to which I was not exposed. Very revealing of the reasons MLK was assassinated. Thanks for sharing this covered up view of MLK.
This speech is more meaningful to me than I have a dream. That was very ideological and a completely wonderful speech, but this has so much practicality and knowledge in it. Dr King was so well spoken and really had the best ideas.
@@4knewt505 Well , it took 50 years and the internet, but we are finally able to circulate his intended message to our people. Better late than never. King wanted reparations and black economic empowerment. The W.S media can no longer cover up their "I have a dream" speech lies.
Thanks Byron Allen would've never knew bout this amazing speech so many need to here be educated and understand what was than is still going on now 50yrs later thank u Dr.MLK Jr. For all do did and your courage 🙌🏾👑✊🏾

This was a young black man with plenty of knowledge and wisdom from the creator. You could hear him. Pleading for justice. Freedom for all people. May God wanted it to be , you can hear his cry for man to get it right and we are still going through that struggle. When are we going to realize that it's time?

I’m a white man, and in school I’m taught that Dr. King was the man who had a dream for racial equality. He was, and I respected him for that. However, I was never taught that he was a socialist acknowledged the underreported housing crisis, rising wealth inequality, and white backlash towards “radical” ideas. He wasn’t just a preacher, a leader of a movement, he was a man far ahead of his time who argued for a fundamental change of societal values. And that makes me respect him even more.
Yeah! We’re always told the whitewashed version in school. Politicians changed him into what they wanted, as did schools and the very education system itself. He was a great man, outside that one speech. We all ought to learn more about him.
@@cheesyfries5638 what is most disappointing is I went to an all Black high school and middle school. I had black teachers that taught history and I too was never taught that MLK was fighting for more then racial equality. Either those teachers didn't know either (crazy because they were alive when he was killed) or.... Idk
@@MikeBNumba6 many teachers don't really teach about him, but about his role in the civil rights movement as a leader because the movement itself I think is usually the focus.. I agree that they should teach more about him and what he was all about. It would help people understand how the problems he outlines more than 50 years ago are still things we're dealing with today, and that even then he recognized them as being critical to true equality and the civil rights movement.
He was a great man. Im not sure why being a socialist causes greater respect. True equality isnt socialist or capitalist. It is a balance of allowing free enterprise and social and individual responsibility to florish not at the expense of each other but in collaboration.
I am proud that I walked with this Brother and was honored to escort his body to his final resting place May the Creator reward him generously for his sincere efforts to make our better and safer
My grandparents of maternal side were communists. They were true communists, because everybody was in their eyes equal. So when the US president Kennedy Malcolm x and Martin Luther King were assasinated; They made a rememberance plaque. It did hang for years in their house. Somehow the plaque gave me a sense of pride and respect for my grandparents, because they believed truly in equality of men. Despite of the communist belief I am proud what they teached me.
@@bigguy9151 what a slimy attempt at character assassination, that has nothing to do with his message, you refuse to engage with his words so you throw out meaningless attacks
Yup...that's the "non-threatening" narrative they've always pushed as it regards him. But his views/position had definitely changed the last 2 years of his life. He'd become more realistic and ready shake things up to get results. During this time, he was more akin to Malcolm (in his prime) and Garvey, than they usually speak.
Back in the 1950's and 60's yes, it was cruel to coldly tell someone who was greatly disadvantage to just "pick themselves up". Not everyone is capable in doing so. Especially when laws in those days worked against black people. In 2020, it's not cruel to tell most people to pull themselves up because almost everyone is capable and they're not hindered by the unjust laws of the 50's and 60's.
shane carlson yeah now we just have killer cops, job discrimination, defacto nonlegal segregation, armed white supremacists, generational poverty, a community flooded with drugs, and terrible public education with rising college tuition and rapid inflation.
That is because it could have been written yesterday. LAWS can’t change the hearts and thinking of devil minded creatures. Our mothers and fathers felt the same way you feel today. At one time WE walked in unity but today there is always ONE or TWO who will be off code. The other problem with Black People is that too many of Us think we know everything. Never humble ourselves to someone wiser. Lastly, FORGIVENESS...When you forgive time after time, after time you become blinded to what is done RIGHT in front of your face. Racism is a DNA gene and like any other trait it has been taught at home, at school through everyday actions of others who possess the same gene. Martin broke through those genes at one moment but his desire to have little Black Boys and Little White Girls eat the same table. One thing is that would confuse those children not knowing who they are first. Secondly, that was NEVER accepted by the Little White Boys and Little White girls. Save your SOUL and SEPARATE from these creatures. Spiritually, Socially and one day Economically....otherwise their Morals of shooting Unarmed people is a Honorable thing will rub off on you. One thing for sure a majority of us are not sleeping anymore. Some of us will stay comatose due to fear. It’s funny they are not afraid of death by their people but afraid of death by the hands of creatures who wish nothing but death upon them. Amazing to observe… P.S. I wrote this comment two years ago…it resurfaced by on my notifications. I see that my comment holds true 2 years ago and definitely applies today in 2022. I am a older Black man and have seen the destruction of our people in the name of unification.

If your comment were true, " Why are OUR PEOPLE killing each other over senseless BS?" 2nd, it's not about feelings ( which fluctuate ), but FACTS. If you're a black man as I,I KNOW you experience the unnecessary negative treatment from Caucasians ( and others) in various ways EVERY DAY. So how do we navigate through this? Me,I understand that in the word of God ( Romans 12:19-21)that GOD WILL AVENGE, but I have responsibility to carry myself right ( which many of OUR PEOPLE) forget. The young people won't listen because they weren't taught......WITH BALANCE, ie a Father and Mother household thereby we have this dysfunction. "The tragedy of racism is the ultimate conclusion is genocide." That is a very powerful quote. This MLK was never taught to me, I never heard this speech until now for MLK day I'm going to study MLK to a deeper extent. It just amazes me that was so ahead of his times with his philosophy and spoke truth to power, till the end of his life.
Nobody spoke truth to power better than MLK! His phrasing, and ability to deliver speeches was amazing. ...and in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard, and what is it that America has failed to hear? The plight of the negro poor has worsened. That's deep!

"Triple ghetto" 5:20 - 5:30 The recording skips, so we're only given two aspects of this "triple ghetto" ("A Ghetto of Race" "A Ghetto of Poverty") ...the final aspect MLK Jr. mentioned in this speech (again, that for 'some reason' has been removed from this particular version) is "A Ghetto of *Human* *Misery* "
This speech is as relevant today as it was in1967, when I was 18 years old. Today I am 70 years old; and I still know we have come a long way , but still have a long way to go.
I totally agree, my brother. At 75 and seeing some semblance of progress, it grieves me to leave this life with so much undone, and a loss of many of our gains
Go back and read Where do We go from Here....Great book. He had been saying these things for a few years leading up to his assassination...His books were Awesome. I think he should be required reading in middle and HS....Why We Can't Wait is a great read a well. I learned about land grants and welfare from rich white people from MLK...
I'm from Alabama and white. I once didn't like him very well. I found out more about him. Now I can't get enough of his speeches. So, if you or anybody that you know feels the way I used to feel or worse, listen to him. You will, if nothing else learn some new words. I googled some big words and expanded my vocabulary. The diligence of Dr. King makes me a great admirer of him. We can also truly learn a lot from his ideals also.
It exists because, the power that be, never, truly ever wanted things to change for its Black and great residents. However true change will not come, until Black peoples change, and realize, that we can never, ever, truly be free, as long as we must live under white rulership, instead of our own.

@@larrybowman4786 I disagree....racism, it's actions and continued existence, is and has always been a thing that was devised and put in place by white peoples (not ALL white people). The construct of race - the false idea that white lives have more value than non-white lives - did not come out of the minds of non-white people. It is not black people or non-white people that need to change to make this country and this world better!! Those that devised this idea are the one's that must change. It has harmed them as much as everyone else, and they DESPERATELY cling to this idea. Today they are calling it Christian White Nationalism....that white people remain in charge always, and they decide how all others live their lives.

I completely agree with you. This is why we chose to homeschool after a few years of public schools. I noticed that our schools were leaving out what I was taught in particular subjects. I know realize that I missed out on so much history in my education. This has been going back for almost 50yrs. Always educate and research for yourself instead of letting someone else do for you. There is always an agenda out there from a core group.
I agree, as parents/adults we should teach our children because we must remember: The American Revolution was not fought for us, but Black Marines fought in that war. Free Public Education was not intended for us, but Black men were used to build many of the school buildings in the south. The Banks did not create the Financial Regulatory system to include and assist Black Americans. In fact, "The Father of American Finance", Carter Glass' intention was to make sure the African Slave and his descents in America would never be able to use the Financial Systems to prosper in America. Glass was born 1857-1946 and never changed his mind despite the injustices Blacks suffered during and after Reconstruction. Read, Banking In America.
