It is a shame that G5 has so little interest in the heart and mind which made G4 so precious

The fact that we're supposed to believe Alphabittle would leave his daughter a child is... pretty gross, to me. Like I can't for a second imagine he legitimately would consider that. That's what I mean by manipulative: making the characters act super irrationally to force emotion And she does the thing she did in Make Your Mark again, more or less

@@AddyLovestar I can see how it appears manipulative if you don't find it believable. But for my part, I felt like it made perfect sense. Consider it from Alphabittle's perspective. He's just been given the one thing he's wanted above all else - a second chance with his daughter. An miraculous opportunity to undo the worst failure of his life, to get back something he never dreamed he would never have again. And for a moment, just a single solitary moment of temptation, he considers doing the unthinkable. Yes, it's irrational, yes, it's gross, but that's what love does to people. He could even convince himself that he's doing it _for_ Misty. But, the moment passes, and he does the right thing. I appreciate that they managed to hold off on the screaming goopfest just long enough to give us that moment.

It was always easy to get cheap emotion out of folks. It's difficult to cope with, but it's important to remember that art isn't just to make people feel quick, momentary emotions. It's to make them feel the longer ones. The ones that make them question themselves. The ones that make them look at the world differently. It's harder to do that, and not everyone appreciates it, but it's worth the effort

Counter-argument: It is so goddamn rare nowadays to get Tell Your Tale to have any semblance of heart or emotion that it makes whatever tablescraps it gives us fullfilling. I also think this episode is yet another Tell Your Tale trainwreck, but there's a couple of things I do think it has over other Tell Your Tale trainwrecks, and one of them IS the sweeter moments with Alphabittle. They ride HARD off of the actual writing Father of the Bridlewood had, for sure, but a little sweetness amidst all the stupidity is still better than the full-on stupid, or even stupid and mean-spirited episodes Tell Your Tale gives us. It's some of the closest the show has gotten to having the heart its early episodes used to have, in its recent outings that is.

Honestly, the only way that's gonna happen is when Hasbro executives pull their heads out of their asses and let the artists be artists. When that happens, you tend to get stuff like Friendship is Magic. But, that's what Hasbro (and corporations in general) want t avoid. I mean, sure, FIM was successful and mad lots of money, but the adult fans did one thing WORSE than losing money: It proved that success was about something other than filling out a checklist for your focus group. And because of that, Gen 5 is basically Hasbro executives pulling a Kuja (of Final Fantasy 9) on Equestria itself. Or maybe a Dimentio a la Super Paper Mario.

I doubt it. TYT was mostly following the plotline of MYM and MYM was written by GM Berrow who knows her references to G4. Now that her show is on hold, TYT will follow their series without any guidelines, which will probably lead to random nonsense like Pony Life where suddenly talkin dolphins and house cats become characters. They already did such episodes with talking Easter Bunny. Its over beyond this point. The lore and timeline of G4 and G5 time skip ends with Secret of Starlight.

Just like how season 2 of Pony Life had the Wild Siders/Meteor Maguffin, I predict that TYT will have its own shtick like, or Sunny finds the EQG mirror, or she opens a friendship school or aliens arrive in Equestria or something like that
