Do you think it kinda feels like a idk if this is the right word but almost like a pity win if a usl club wins with only 8 mls clubs playing

@@USLInsight yes and no. The no being that you can show that MLS is scared that USL clubs can compete. Look at the last few editions. USL clubs have been making it to the final 8 a little more. We had 2 last year and before that a team made the finals while a League One club made it to the 8 as well in what I believe was the second year in the tournament for League One clubs after 2020 & 2021 editions were cancelled

@@USLInsightnow I’m hearing scuttlebutt of fans of MLS clubs demanding they play. Orlando is one of em. They know where they came from. And I feel fans of clubs that started in the lower leagues are gonna speak up more. Chicago Fire fans I hear are doing the same. This is from google search of the tournament and tweets on the subject are shown.

Dump the leagues cup or go back to what it was: a fun summer friendly tournament with 4 from each side playing for a cute trophy. But have the reserves play that one

I was a huge MLS fan too before all the hype but now this has 100% made me not want to watch a single game

I hear ya and I haven't taken down the fire stuff because that was the old Chicago fire when MLS still cared about the growth of the game with in the US.

Agreed ! & that’s what most people want for them to participate

Funny thing is they start their reserves anyways at the start and slowly add more of the main guys before the main guys take over near the end. This time MLS just wanted their reserves in the entire tournament which wouldn’t be good for them. Cause during the years of MLS reserves playing in USL the USL clubs owned them. Only 3 MLS clubs can say they won silverware.

But why support MLS when MLS only cares about ML$$$

@@USLInsight Here's the thing, every Sport/League/Team exists because of money. They're ALLLL motivated by money. Food for thought: MLS was earning $90 million/annual average in their previous Broadcast deal, as recent as 2022 (28 teams). That's just over $3 million per team. That's TINY for Broadcast revenue in sports. That's comparable to the TV revenue for the Mountain West Conference, the 6th best league in College Football 🏈.

@@davidday2373 just cause everyone does it doesn’t mean it’s right. More and more people are complaining about how each league is rigged & we’re just supposed to accept it ? I don’t think so. & MLS for a long time has said they care about the growth of soccer in the US & that’s why people are upset because they aren’t caring for the growth

Not the success of USL but the success of soccer being taken seriously in this country not just every 4 years when there’s a World Cup

So MLS is demanding 60% of the games they play against the USL? Yeah, they're trying to gauge all the money from US Soccer. Fuck that joo, Don Garber.

It's not just about the USL but all levels of US football. The MLS is bad for development of US football, they are cutting funding with academies and this hurts all lower levels of football.

@@owenthornhill9671 Sure. There is an infinitesimal benefit to the competing semi-pro team from (say) Alamogordo NM. MLS doesn't care about that. Neither does USL. MLS is a business. USL is a business. Don't kid yourself thinking that USL is "growing the beautiful game" while MLS is just being selfish and greedy. This is a straight forward business fight between MLS and USL. USL wants money and peer status. MLS wants to deny both. That's the fundamental conflict. The complicating issue is that there are lots (and lots and lots) of people on social media who hate the MLS business model and want to build up USL as a competitor to MLS. They know MLS won't change on its own. So they are looking for some leverage. That always gets layered into this argument.

This is Messi’s first full year so we’ll see if he actually competes and if the hype around him is already dying
