She is doing too much. She is bringing personal feelings to work. I can't bring to every job my irritations and expect to keep the job. Trying so hard to be "real" will take the food off your table.
I’m not Monique’s biggest fan but she’s absolutely right. White women get standing ovations for saying that they deserve more. They’re labeled as “Brave” and “Inspiring”. A black woman is labeled as “difficult” and “angry”.
@Anthony Gist She accepted a deal based on "friendship" and what she thought was integrity from Lee Daniels. She clearly states that she did not accept the role for the money. She stated that clearly in the video. She later came to discover she was the only one with the integrity. Lee clearly had none and she is not the only one who discovered that about Lee Daniels..just ask Dame Dash about that. She was not complaining about the deal she made with Lee. She was referencing the ancillary experiences that had nothing to do with Lee's production company. She clearly does know her worth as she has a million dollar comedy act going on in Las Vegas now. She is in an industry that attempts to push a particular narrative about black men and women and she is choosing to push back for the sake of all the little black girls that will be coming after her...All indications would show that she has a firm knowledge of the industry she has chosen. Tiffany Haddish..plays to the stereotype that hollywood is pushing...she gets the cookies. Eddie Murphy...false equivalency..men in hollywood generally tend to get paid more than women..although white men make far more than any black actor by comparison. If you identify as a black man( foundational black american/descended from the killing fields of slavery) then you know what is occurring in Hollywood...if you do not identify as black (yup....you Mr. Gist) why do you care about any of what you chose to write about???? Enjoy your day..Troll..nice try though...
@Anthony Gist Mo'Nique said she had the best agents and mana9who were white and was told they can get you the best deals and when they would go to negotiate a deal so they would come back and tell her "well we tried and this is the best we could get and next time it will come". Next time come and she doesn't get it and then her husband has to intervene because his wife isn't getting good deals.
@apolo kabali It seems there is more to the story than what has been put. But all in all I still stand by her getting paid what an actor of her standing should have been getting paid. I also think there are a lot of underrated actors/artists out there who aren't fully credited for how they've worked so hard to be percieved and recieve what they've worked for to obtain. From what she's explained in this video it seems not only should she be credited for who she was then but it is also a race issue in the industry. It's unjust. Racism put aside, being an artist or actress, most and a lot of the time, are taken for granted as well and advantage of.
When Monique produced email receipts on Lee Daniels offering her the role of Cookie Lyon (when he swore up and down he didn't), I started believing everything this woman has been saying about what goes on behind the scenes. She has not been proving untruthful yet and tides have turned on pretty much everybody that claimed she was in the wrong.
Yep. And, now, in 2020, she's had an historical, successful (first Black female) Las Vegas residency, and now has a comedy and friends special airing on Showtime (On Demand) this month. And, in both cases, Mo'Nique states that she and her Husband were treated fairly, both creatively and financially. I'm glad someone who speaks the truth, received good things from it, eventually.
People do what they can get away with. They thought that she would eventually go away and their side of the story would go down as the truth. They didn't count on her sticking to what she believes and the black community rallying behind her. Same shit happened with Katt. They forget that the new generations grew up on these people and when these generations gain positions of power, they make their dreams a reality. Donald grew up on Katt, so when he got his show, he put one of his idols on it. Bad deeds can't be hidden forever and in the digital age, it's getting harder and harder to assassinate someone's character based on lies. It was easy to do this shit before news spread so fast and there was a recording of everything.
And that's what I like about Tyler Perry cause he never lied about the situation and he reached out to her to help her even if it was too late he still made the effort to try to repair they're friendship...
Malachi Ben Yisrael MONIQUE AND KAT WILLIAMS ARE NOT SMART. YOU PICK YOUR BATTLES AND LEARN TO SWING AND GET OUTTA THE WAY WHERE THEY CANNOT SWING BACK.
@@antoinetteh.4108 Your missing the point. Watch her response to the front end of the deal in comparison to what White actors of her caliber would get...
Exactly. People talked so much shit when they saw the picture being painted by the ones that own the brushes. Now, all this time later, they're starting to see the real picture. You can't keep up a lie forever and now that people are speaking out about this shit, they see that Mo and Katt were the ones being sane and the picture around them was what was crazy.
I was not a Katt Williams Fan until he came under attack. And I developed a real appreciation for him but I was moved into action in support of him because I believe Unity is how we'll prosper.
Imagine being told 'I really got you paid 50,000' when you know you're worth so much more. It's as if he's rubbing it in her face, at the end of the day Mo'nique can act, do stand up, host and present. It's always black people putting down their own, shameful I'm disgusted he said that to her.

I'm so glad Monique is speaking to small New Black Media! Shame on Dr Boyce Watkins for dismissing Monique's claim! Shame on black women for not recognizing the importance of Monique's struggle!
I want this black woman narrative to stop. The narrative implies black men are getting benefits that black women don't. That isn't true, black men are considered bottom barrel is almost everything. When we shout black women have it bad we are ignoring that all black people have it bad, and black men have it much worse. We need to stop dividing ourselves into groups that no one care about. Woman, gay, man, comedian real thespian or whatever. We dont get equality and wont get it by saying look at the injustice. What Monique did right this time around was not taking the deal. Monique was worth 50k for precious, because she took it. If you give an Oscar worthy stereotypical performance for 50k, then you are worth 50k, if you don't then, you aren't. Pretty simple.
@@onlinesmurf : You're a fkn idiot. Monique wanted just to be treated fairly!
In the movie “Precious,” Mo’nique gave one of the bravest, most heartbreaking, simply one of the best performances in the history of film. She should be making more movies.
@John Edwards It just seems like she wants what other actresses/comedians get, the same salary especially. I really don't follow too much celebrity gossip--I just like the performances--but i have seen Mo'nique on talk shows from time to time, and what I have noticed, is that she listens to all her critics. She doesn't talk over anyone. She weighs her answers, thinks before speaking. She calls even white men "my brother." I've been a fan since "The Parkers." She always made me laugh.

John Edwards sorry this is NOT true! They wanted her to go promote WHILE she was going on tour and did NOT want to pay for dates she would have canceled. Paying for travel is NOT adequate enough to do press! She should have been paid to do press, and compensated for missing tour dates. 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
@@DJHollygrove Right I don't know who this John Edwards person but the facts are out there She was expected to go out promote a movie on her dime while doing her comedy
@John Edwards There are a lot of people who perfectly understand what she's complaining about. She's complaining about the inequality in the industry and the fear that many have to challenge the status quo. There are also many of the actresses you mentioned and others you didn't who back up what she is saying and just aren't as loud about it. I applaud her for being loud enough to be heard, even if not everyone understands. In fact her speaking out relates to many other businesses as well, not just the entertainment industry.
It's sad that Monique has been black listed because she speaks the truth about a business that expect people to sell your soul for the almighty dollar and lose your self respect and dignity in the process. Keep speaking out against them Monique.
Its not sad. Its just reality. Its like me walking into my job and talking about my co workers and bosses. Even if I'm right..I wont have that job for much longer lol
Thats not why shes been blacklisted. Shes black listed because she was difgi ult to work with and communicate with. Other people behind scenes have spoken out about her. She makes it seen its only those she mentions by name.
But she’s been in movies since Precious including the movie her and her husband produced after precious called Blackbird. No she haven’t been in big budget films like some of her contemporaries but she has worked. That blacklisted stuff was also a little added for extra measure because of that shitty deal with Lee and her fallout with Oprah over her not promoting Precious. I want her to continue to do big major stuff to me to keep harping on this this is not helping her as she’s going forward.
I just realized he had no clue about her star power. He was treating that $50,000 like it was something great. She gave a million dollar performance. She’s too aware. That was his problem.

Sanders Ali I completely understand how ignorant she is and you are. This is make believe, she is very rich, in Hollywood, don’t listen to herrrrrrr, she’s deluded
@Roderick McKinney Exactly. She said in the video that she took the $50K because she believed in her friend and did it as a favor. Plus the 5% gross would have made up for the money she would have normally got as a lead actress in a normal budget film. The issue is that Lee messed her around and as we saw with the Dame Dash situation it seems to be his MO
@Janet Burrus To do exactly what she did (already), you must not have listened to the interview or the various interviews she's had about the situation.
She never had these problems until her inexperienced would be manager of a husband thinks he knows what he's doing. Not to mention the several people people whom talked about being white camera men and was talked down to because of their being white, again something that was not heard of until this man came along.
