So many people still believe that Zendaya will be playing Moana… she won’t. It will be a girl of Pacific island descent. Carvalho herself said that she is not reprising it live action either, but is executive producing and will make sure it’s a young girl of an accurate cultural background.

We have a ton of Pacific Islanders (Polynesian, Micronesian, Melanesian) that would LOVE to play the roles of Moana & Maui. The fact Auli’i Carvahlo is the voice of Moana but is wanting to give the opportunity to someone else shows she has a big heart and how she’s not greedy. Dwayne should try and give the role of Maui to another Pacific Islander and give a opportunity for others. Maui in our Polynesian stories in reality he is young and athletic built.

Reading all the comments. I hope everyone is aware that Dwayne has no association anymore with Disney. They announced back in May that he's been dropped for the live action remake and will no longer work with Disney on any further projects. Due to the lawsuit against him Disney took this direction too not be linked with anything related to it.

The burning question to all these live action remakes: What makes this version so much better than the original that it needs to be made? The only remake that was debatably better (or at least not significantly worse) was the Jungle Book, and that was just "fine." Disney has had peaks and valleys of creativity, and they've been in one of the deepest, longest valleys of their existence. They just don't care about making something remotely interesting, and have been hiring people who just don't care (or care about the wrong things).

I don't think she has the background. She hasn't been officially cast tho, this is just a fan-made. Auli'i Cravalho, the original VA of Moana, is involved in the production and she released a statement not too long ago saying that she and everyone involved in the project are gonna do everything they can to find someone who'll suit the character best, so let's hope they get it right

If disney does make a live action Moana, I'd be extremely disappointed if they didn't cast Auli'i Cravalho as her returning role of Moana. I can't see anyone else playing the part. Auli'i IS Moana.

People are so fragile . When someone plays a villain or a psychopath , a murderer , or even a superhero , no one says “oh you should’ve gotten a real murderer to play a murderer or a person who can actually fly and bend steel to play Superman” . People will complain about anything they can . It’s funny how people become racist but hide behind the facade of being inclusive .
