I am the softest bleeding heart you'll ever find, but when I hear about this guy killing and maiming innocent people who were just going to work, I really don't give a shit that he has PTSD. I have zero sympathy. It's one thing to beat up some guy who's in the racket, but it's another thing entirely when a guy who needs to pay the rent goes to work and gets shot by some tough guy yokel. @Tarziu Armando-Liviu You have pointed out the only true cure for sin sickness, and that is Jesus Christ. This guy in the interview seems like he's trying to forgive himself and going to therapy for day's on end to find peace but that's the attitude that only makes therapists rich and really provides no true lasting peace. A killer has to confess to God that he realizes he's a killer, and God will forgive a killer, but killing is the one sin that has to be confessed before men also. Because in God's word he says, "He who sheds man's blood, by man must his blood be shed." A life has to be paid for by a life. Not as in an eye for an eye vengeance thing, but this guy sent unrepentant sinners to hell before their time and robbed them of the grace and mercy and forgiveness he now seeks. So a repentant killer has to put himself into the hands of unjust men because it is the right thing to do to complete his life's penance for his actions. And if he is TRULY repentant he would do this gladly. All sins are frankly forgiven but the sin of murder has to be paid for with a life. The life of the murderer.

My father trained me for this from three years old he said you’re a killer. He trained me to be a ball player I had a scholarship. What they didn’t know was he trained me to be a killer from three years old. I was doing push-ups in the basement. 5 push-ups at three years old. 25 push-ups at five years old. How intriguing. I’ve listened to this man plenty of times. I read his book. He has a few but I’ve read the first one. One thing he touches on that no gangster has before. Is the mental state your left with after the life you lived took its course. He brings to light the fact even if you survive all that treacherous life. And live to be considered as old in society. You e still plagued with ptsd. He’s right. Very right ! Ty for this interview very important to hear. Others think you live out your life and bc your breathing and out of jail you automatically a winner. But your not. Your mental state has to pay. One way or another, you don’t live a peaceful sane life. You have to pay.

I keep wondering why quality of life doesn´t factor in how these mob figures saw themselves as long as they were active criminals. Because what are the chances? You´ll get killed or seriously hurt, spend a sizeable part of your life in jail, have to constantly look over your shoulder, can´t trust anyone, are constantly on the run, etc... etc.... Very few mobsters managed to get old without this happening to them. And you know there´s no way out, because even if you quit on good terms there´ll be a contract on you regardless, because a quitter may cooperate with the FBI at some point. Like Joseph Pistone wrote: The mob is driven by greed, and controlled by fear. Must be a miserable life, yet apparently this life still keeps sucking people in and I´m quite puzzled by this fact.

I just finished watching a documentary by a famous British historian about how people could possibly have been caught up in the Nazi regime. The documentary seemed relevant to this. This historian pointed out that each and every one of us likes to imagine that if we had been present at some dark moment in history, we would have been the ones to stand up, think independently and rebel. And yet, almost no one (if anyone at all) did this at these times. If you have grown up with everyone around you--parents, mentors, peers, teachers, leaders--all thinking one way, it takes a very rare individual to have a conscience of his own. It seems that in a very significant way, we are all defined by the circumstances into which we are born. Whatever your folks tell you and raise you to think, that is what you will be for the rest of your life. Unless you are one out of a million. From what this guy says, it is no surprise at all that he became what he became. We can never excuse terrible crimes, but we can try to understand them.

I appreciate John telling his story as a cautionary tale, but it frightens me how many people will laud the likes of him, Mike Dowd etc as if they're heroes when in fact they inflicted pain and suffering on countless people and arguably have inflicted a net negative upon the world. People like this are extremely charismatic and its easy to look at them as sort of antiheroes - flawed characters who are ultimately good people - but despite years in prison and a desire for redemption, you can't just ignore all the bad they have done throughout their lives. An awareness of one's misdeeds does not behove society to forgive them. In my opinion, these are not people to respect or look up to, but nonetheless I value the stories being told.

That style gives off this essence of humanity from an otherwise unsavory character. Makes it easier for the viewer to realize people are all just trying to survive the best way they know how. And that it takes mistakes and consequences and life experience to see the wrong in your ways. If you’re lucky at the point you change your ways in the direction of trying to right your wrongs. Your series has a way of entertainment thru information that’s helpful in understanding the issues with society that we would otherwise ignore
