Have to say you've done an amazing job of displaying this module.. I've got three Rossum modules and really want to wrap my head around this guy but even with your excellent run through I'm still a bit confused. I want to believe just struggling !!!

It's essentially an array of oscillators. Hex mode is where it shines... and all the extra details are defined in option layers.

I just picked up a Mob of Emus and your video has been a huge resource for me. It’s hard to make a simple video about such a complex module. You’ve done a great job of it. Both Sweetwater and Rossum owe you for your contributions and for making the sale of their module much easier. IMO you’re operating as an extension of their marketing department here. Great work and please keep it up.

Thank you for what must have been a massive amount of work. I appreciate it. I have to say, though, that the demos were almost completely unhelpful to me. With such a complex and unintuitive module, I would have liked you to start very basic, like: let's do an LFO on a single channel, how do I change its parameters... then add another channel doing the same or sth else, turn some knobs to see what they're doing and get a sense of their behavior etc. Make clear distinction between using channels individually vs globally, or between CV inputs and audio inputs. Maybe that's something you could do in the future. Thanks again.

Thanks so much for this video. I'll keep watching it until I understand how to use this thing :) I'm still vaguely optimistic that this module is worth the time it will take to learn how to use it. Side rant: MoE is my fifth Rossum module, so I'm obviously a fan of the company, but I am mystified as to why they didn't add a display like Morpheus and Control Forge have (or even the micro b/w display from Satellite). When you have banks of hidden functions and buttons that can do six different things depending on which mode you're in, or you need to rely on LED chases and other kludges to indicate modes, that should've sent up some red flags about the UI. This thing would have been so much easier to use with a display that shows the status of each channel, active modes, menu choices to scroll through, etc.

Thanks for tackling this overview of such a complex module. I'm on the fence about the Mob of Emus though, but I guess if I want such complex modulation resources all in one module, this is the one.

Thank you for this video... This is probably the only video out there that covers so much functionality! I had a question related to the pitches I send to the mob of emus. They are kinda not what I expect them to be. For eg if i play/send the C major scale.. it sounds weird. I wonder if it s the harmonic function of this synth that does this. Is there some way to bypass it?
@dbvelocity6508
@dbvelocity6508 3 года назад
There are several settings that can alter the pitch. You can select all the channel's and manually zero out things like the Harm#, quantize, random and warp at 12 o'clock. Another method is to initialize the settings by holding Tap, Hex and Option for the utility menu and while still holding all those, press preset 2 for initialize. Note that the default Harm# will set the channel's to powers of 2 and apply a mid range Harmonic gain so again you may want to select all channels and dial to multiplier 1 then.. dial the hex layer gain up.
@WalmikDeshpande
@WalmikDeshpande 3 года назад
@@dbvelocity6508 I tried both options but still ended up with the same weird sounding C major scale. I double clicked Hex to select all channels and then went about resetting. Do i need to be in any option mode?
@dbvelocity6508
@dbvelocity6508 3 года назад
You would need to be in option one for the Warp parameter which is a crazy pitch shifter but I suspect if things are wonky after the initialize...you have a clock or something plugged into the trig input. This trig input affects all channels and will essentially determine the frequency they are to play so it really gets in the way of a proper tuning when trying to just use the channel's as oscillators.
@dbvelocity6508
@dbvelocity6508 3 года назад
Also check that the CV mode you have is freq for the channel you are controlling, if in multi then be sure you're controlling the correct input. There is also an update that allows individual cv assignments that I will potentially cover soon.
@WalmikDeshpande
@WalmikDeshpande 3 года назад
@@dbvelocity6508 Thank you so much for your patience, sincerely.. I tried the following and still no luck: 1. Initialize the settings by holding Tap, Hex and Option and then press preset 2 2. Select all the channels and set the Harm# to multiplier 1 (complete left), quantize/random to 0 (complete left) and warp to 12 o'clock position (this makes it 0) && dial the hex layer gain up (complete right) 3. Get in option 1 mode (click and keep pressed option and then adjust warp) for channel 1 output (make sure it s selected/active) 4. connect patch cable to freq 5. tune it in reaktor 6. map midi keyboard and test

@2fu599

at the end of the review you point out to the downside of the global CV Mode, and the potential of truly individual channels. Does that mean you cannot (yet) set the Module to 6 individual oscillators and control these with 6 different v/o inputs to get 6 different outputs like a regular standard VCO?
@dbvelocity6508
@dbvelocity6508 2 года назад
The module is already setup to use as six individual VCOs and you can use a global cv mode set for v/oct to drive the channels independently. Global cv mode means all channels are now v/oct input or trigger or etc. There is also an update that came after this video was uploaded that allows independent cv mode now. So you can have e.g. 3 VCOs with v/oct and 2 env with trigger inputs and a quantizer channel or whatever combo you want.
@motoboy6666
@motoboy6666 3 года назад
Can you use this in some simple manner as a simple 6xLFO or 6xENV? (And learn everything else on later on... hopefully🤨)

@dbvelocity6508

For the record, you can absolutely trigger each channel independently with the dedicated CV inputs. The recent firmware update also allows full independent cv assignments.

I've liked your other tutorials very much, but this one I found rushed - you speed through points sooo quickly - and kind of disorganized, so as a whole it was very hard to follow. I have the Mob myself and am just getting started with it but I hope you'll take this as constructive feedback rather than just criticism.

I totally accept that, it seems like a fine balance to get the pace but not drag on forever. Condensing most of the manual into 15 min is maybe not the best way but I see this as a type of quick start video and not a replacement for reading that enchiridion. There is overlap in everything and so I attempt to lay down some chapters that have clear separations but by all means ..Thank you for the feedback

@@dbvelocity6508 Sorry mate, NPR and you are WRONG. The emu is Australia's national bird, they are native there, they are all over the place in the countryside there, and Aussies, all twenty five million or so of them, like myself, call them eem-you s. But if you want to turn the name Australia's of national bird into an amalgam of the most common vowel and the sound a cow makes, go for it. Ignorance, arrogance, and a disregard for reality is a state of mind clearly you, many Americans, and NPR share. From now on, I am going to pronounce that carrion bird that the US regards so fondly as an eeglee, maybe it will catch on in Australia.
