Here is a quick video on my mobile antenna farm, my mobile whips on triple magnet mounts on my beat up old Grand Marquis 86. I've had good performance with all my antennas so far, no real problems. I've beat up my magnet mounts and they have not had any problems either, none have flown off!
The four whips are 102" tank whip, NR22L 97 inch 2 meter whip, Comet CSB-790A 62" whip 2 meter and 70cm, HYS TC-3500 triple band 39" antenna.
Big magnet mount is the Tram with CB threads, other three magnet mounts are generic 90mm triple magnet mounts with 239 female ends.

Thank you for the informative vid on the strong magnet mounts as you already know it doesn't have to look pretty to go fast but performance is everything! BTW you can double those prices Now!

Inflation has gone crazy. I'm glad I got my radio stuff before things became scarce and/or expensive.

There should be a braided copper ground to all mag mounts. The SWR and bandwidth will be much improved.

Could you cluster them together in the center of the roof to get the maximum ground plane? You’d most likely only ever transmit on one antenna at a time, and receive shouldn’t be interfered with by having other antennas close. Might be a concern if you hit some tree limbs though while you were transmitting

Some people may think it looks ridiculous, but some of us just dont' care. Or just really like the reception!

These are wonderful mounts for holding a big antenna at highway speeds. I have a question I hope someone can answer. Can I upgrade the coax on the Taurus GL3T Antenna Triplex 5" Magnet CB Antenna Mount? I'm pushing 300 watts and I don't think the cheap, low end, RG58 coax, that comes preinstalled on the mount is going to do the job or if I can change to a better coax? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I've torn one of these apart after it had problems with some small corrosion, and putting in a replacement coax should be a simple enough job.

Use rg213u excellent performance. I won't go back. Only downside is it isn't as flexible..

I was looking at the reviews on Amazon. They were bad. The connections are corroded and the company does not solder their connections. Have you taken off your antenna to see?

Haven't had a short yet. Everything has been working fine, and the few times I've unscrewed my antennas from the mounts, there have been no signs of problems on the connectors. So far as radio function, they run just fine. If there is an issue, if you take the pads off the magnets themselves they might scratch the paint. Even if you don't take off the pads, the mounts might hold enough water and dirt against the pain to discolor or damage it.

I had a Tram triple mag mount come off with a 5 foot firestik @ 75mph with a 35 mph crosswind. I then took those little magnets off and used 250lb magnets from Harbor Freight.

Did they ever scratch the roof? Would you consider taking them up and down every time?
@kingduckford
@kingduckford 11 месяцев назад
They can scratch the roof of a car, and have done some scratching when moving them from vehicle to vehicle. I took the rubber mounts off for better hold, though. But the rubber boots can get damaged as well, and lead to potential scratching even with them on. A single magnet or a permanent hole in the roof might be your best option if keeping your paint in good condition is extremely important. I own old vehicles that i own outright. A few roof scratches don't bother me too much, especially with faded paint on old things like this that are 36+ years old. I can take the risk, but it might not always be right for everyone.

Greetings friends In the car ..What do you have to do with the surplus cable? If the base has 4 meters of cable, but my station is only 1.50, what do I do with the cable that is left over? Rolling it at somewhere? , short and weld back the pl again? ..
@kingduckford
@kingduckford 2 года назад
Shortening the cable is certainly an option. I prefer simply rolling and coiling the extra cable from the mounts. One advantage of magnet mounts is that I can pull up the mounts and put them in different places on the car. Or I can switch them from vehicle to vehicle. It means I have the extra length to play with if I want to move them, trim them tight and you limit your future options. There is often a few ways to coil, or place the extra cable under or behind something.

I did a quick review of two antennas, but I know I should start making videos again. I'll get back on that.

Did the ferrite cores on the tank whip help with QRM/N..?
@kingduckford
@kingduckford 5 месяцев назад
Absolutely. Lowered CB noise by about 2 S units, and generally "cleaned up" the general noise. I have since put them on every CB, and every Ham coax I have into my vehicle or my shack. Depending on your location and noise, your mileage may vary, but it certainly works.
@AndrewSparkfish
@AndrewSparkfish 5 месяцев назад
@@kingduckford thanks for that... Noise has got worse since neighbour installed solar and a huge inverter.

@@AndrewSparkfish Good luck! Just remember, there are limits to everything, and chokes can only relieve so much of the noise.

I was almost able to talk to Russia last night on the Ham radio. As conditions get better, international stuff is looking good. But I think the secret agency stuff is a bit harder to get into than you think.

Sweet. But how do you remove it? A crowbar?
@kingduckford
@kingduckford 2 года назад
A lot of brute force. I suppose some people would find the task requiring leverage or a second person to help, and sometimes the job is absolutely difficult. Grab the base of the antenna as a lever and just keep pulling till it gives.
@joeblow593
@joeblow593 2 года назад
@@kingduckford I'm thinking a good size adjustable wrench on the plate section would be some good leverage.😀😀
