I do this now, but I also have a shop.. Every Sunday is blocked off for 2 specific bi weekly customers, they pay me $750 ($150 per car) for a maintenance wash and interior vacuum/wipedown. Between the 2 they pay me consistently $3k per month. I have others I do once a month, and some once a week. Easy consistent income for just about anyone with common sense and willingness to put in proper effort!

This was my hustle out of high school. My mistake was bringing in my friends and giving them all even splits of the daily money rather than hiring other people who were only there for business for close to minimum wage. I learned alot from this hustle

This was my hustle last summer, its what I have always wanted to do, it went extremely well, planning on getting a truck and the proper equipment and doing it on a more permanent basis, right after I get out of school next summer.

I have a friend who started a mobile detailing business. Just himself and a van. Now he has a 16 bay detailing shop and major contracts with companies like Amazon. He details Ferraris and Lamborghinis. Still does mobile stuff too. Great business to get into.

The company I used to work for had a guy doing this in the parking lot all the time. He’d go around either washing or detailing the employees cars and had many regulars and people who only wanted theirs washed once in a while. Everyone was friends with him and would bring him food and something to drink especially on the hot days. He was kinda like the company mascot lol But I think because the owner of the company had him wash his car and was there for so long he brought in more customers because of the rapport and they trusted him. Trust is a big one.

Good job bro wish you alot of success...since you are mobil pls pls pls follow the money. Market in areas that have money to spend on $200 $300+ on details. Your labor aint cheap. A big mistakes alot of detailers do is charge too little...your business should provide more then what their local car wash offers

@SuperMaxCarp, You are very correct. I run my own mobile car detailing business (DMC MOBILE AUTO DETAILING). You can't remain in business for the long run if you charge next to nothing for your time and service rendered. Now, there are times when you might be tempted to want to lower your prices just so you stay busy, DO NOT SUCCUMB TO SUCH PRESSURE. Believe in yourself, be patient, and continue to improve on your skill set. As time goes, with effective marketing, you will definitely attract the right kind of customers; those who are willing to pay top dollar to get quality service. Don't pay so much attention to what your competitors are doing, focus on building yourself and believe me, you will stand apart from the crowd who are virtually doing the same thing.

I run a mobile auto detailing business and I agree with everything but the right equipment isn’t necessarily cheap to be able to make 10k a month. I’d say 5-7k invested can make 10k+ a month

I dated a guy in college back in the mid-late 70's whose pop had a used car lot and he started pinstriping / detailing and he made a fortune I'm sure. Had some large accts after a while,too. There are costs,of course. don't know how much. and if I recall he was a graphic arts major so he enjoyed that kind of stuff.

I started a mobile detailing business in 2008 EPA was always on me to catch my dirty water. They wanted me to catch my water so I had to roll the vehicle onto an inflatable swimming pool and pump the dirty water into a tank inside my truck I was even using eco-friendly soap my mobile insurance was $2200 every six months. It was a struggle at first but got things going and I just put it on the back burner because you can only make so much money in a day there’s only 24 hours in a day only seven days in a week time vs money so I went on to a different hustle. It’s a great idea but for me I wanted something with more freedom and more money.

Facts!! Just make sure you know what you’re getting into. There’s tons of info online, classes bunch of stuff. Do your research first. Before you got from trying to make 10k to damaging a car costing over 10k. Also if you’re starting you won’t necessarily start making 10k.

Perfect I may be in some peoples eyes but that shouldn’t mean you shouldn’t get a degree and get a starting job that will eventually get u up to 20k a month in a few years and much much more after 10-15years. It probably won’t be as labour intensive and will earn you more. But if you don’t wanna get a degree than hell yh do this.

The problem with detailing is the skill required to do different kinds of cars, with different kinds of paint. If you take the time to learn it's an amazing hustle, but without the skills and tools for the job you'll end up destroying the first black car you do

I know it's not easy, especially when you have competitors charging next to nothing to detail people's cars. What's the solution to stay afloat? Learn new skills like paint correction, ceramic coating installation, window tinting, ppf installation, etc. These services will fetch you good money because not everyone that does it is good at it.

For anyone looking to start a business, definitely the first few months or years wouldn't be rosey. If you are doing the right thing, marketing yourself the right way, networking with other detailers who share the same aspiration as you and are hungry to want to succeed, you will definitely make a lot of money as the business starts to grow and your customer base increases.
