My khaki campbell ducks are getting too big for the brooder so it's time to move them outside. For those of you looking for duck coop ideas, I found that a modified version of the John Suscovich Stress Free Chicken Tractor works great as a mobile duck house.

Bahahahahahaha you build stuff like me! My drill falls off the screws, stuff turns out wonky, I should prolly wear a bra or a bigger tshirt lol, etc. We absolutely love you and your lovely wife and Toby AND everybody else too. 4 generations of us in my house now and we all watch you and adore you. From 11 to 77 with 3 of us girls and my son.

Thanks for the video and the cat comic relief. I’ve started in on this project and thought I would mention that a table saw or a radial saw with a dado blade works wonders cutting lap joints. The one cut everyone should look out for is the longest side rail where the joints are offset at slightly different lengths from the edge. A difference of four inches and it’s hard to catch on the cut plan.

If you run your saw at an angle mult times, holding it with two hands, you won't have to spend so much time with a chisel. Clamp the wood so it doesn't move.

Love it. I currently have 6 ducklings and 10 chicks that I'm building this for. I know you have since built the duck house which looks awesome. I have a shed that I may convert for the winter but it would also have a couple of pigs in it. Trying to find something that would work for all of them until we can build a real barn. Any changes you would make since its been a couple of years now?

That’s really awesome. I thought of building a small house for ducklings on this lake nearby me. If I had your hands and ambition I would. A lot of stray ducklings end up suffering on that lake. And I thought maybe just maybe a small house they can only fit in and out of with daily food might help them survive.

Did you use these for your ducks throughout the winter? And did you end up making any modifications? How are they holding up?

The chicken tractor worked great until October, but then I repurposed an old hay shed for the ducks. If you watch one of my recent videos, you can see it in action. That said, I’ll go back to the tractors this summer. I’ll probably build more for the birds we plan to add.

@@GoldShawFarm I'm thinking of something similar but smaller, just want 2-3 for eggs. I don't have nearly as much space but thought I'd work them across the garden area in Spring, move them inside my 5' chain link fence close to the house for winter months to be safer from predators( fox and coyote in my area mainly), add a box to the chassis to let them inside with straw and possibly add a low voltage light as a heat source. It can get zero here. Will they lay in a nesting box? I've read that ducks just lay wherever. My neighbor has a pond about 50 feet from my property, wondered about letting them use it occasionally, not so sure they would "go to bed" though given that freedom?

About the tarp on top - can u move it close/oprn dependong on tbe weather? R U PLANNING on instaling here the lamp heaters? How will it work laing the electricity line?

I also hope ul introduce free ranging allowing them for at least part of the day to roam freely outdoors. Still the outdoor need to be fenced. Still waiting also for the wetland for them to swim in

So you just have an open bottom for your house? We're trying to make a mobile goose house for them to sleep in at night, but I worry about the bottom being open to potential predators. We talked about having hardware cloth across, but I also worry about that hurting their feet. Do you have advice on what to do? Thanks!

From what I can tell about this design, it's dependent on being fenced with either electric net or strand (John Suscovich has chickens in several of these moved daily within a fenced-in pasture that also moves).

I don't see the point in cutting all those half lap joints for the chicken tractor. Yes it looks a bit better, but it's a chicken tractor and the time spent on 20 joints really offers no benefit.

The plans suggest gluing, which absolutely adds structural strength.
