In this video I explain the ins and outs of my Mobile Flip-Top Workbench and what makes it so unique. Unfortunately, I built this three years ago and did not record a build video along the way. I did take a lot of pictures, so I use them throughout the video to explain what I did, along with some current video and even some 3D Renders to better explain the inside parts that you are unable to see from the outside. So, if you have a small workspace and are looking to save a ton of space, this may be the bench for you!
I now realize I spelled "Rosin Paper" wrong as well, but it's too late at this point.

I like the finished edges on the doors and drawer fronts. You're a woodworker so you have to practice your craft. Also, it's not uncommon in this work to demonstrate the skills of your craft in even the most utilitarian of builds. Remember, a hundred years from now someone is going to get possession of this thing and, if it's the right person, they will ponder the history of it's use made evident by it's scars of ages ago, and they will also admire it for the passion they can see was put into it by it's maker.

My thought is this bench is AWESOME! It has all the features I want in a mobile bench, and many of them I'd never otherwise have seen or thought of. It doesn't bother me that you didn't post a build video because your ideas are the important things and you showed/explained those well. Don't worry about "Rosen paper". I just figured I'd never heard of it, but I'd never heard of "rosin paper" either. So I learned even more from this than I suspected. ;) ETA:One way of keep stuff from rolling/sliding underneath the bench would be to attach a strip of ??? as a skirt reaching the floor.

This is an excellent video. I am very impressed with the animation, the descriptions, and how well-spoken you are. In terms of the engineering, I find that you are a lot like me, even after you have put something together, you are continually looking at how it could be better, more refined, and you're almost in the realm of doing it over again, just to find that you have more ideas. I'm also impressed with your choice of power tools. There is nothing wrong with WEN, and in almost every video I see, even when a shop is full of Festool, Shop Fox, and Grizzly, there is always the black and orange of WEN poking around. Cost to performance, you won't find much better, despite the rubbish I hear from YT Cowboys.
@RingsWorkshop
@RingsWorkshop 2 года назад
Thank you so much! I've been very happy with their tools so far. My only complaint I have is the size, but that has nothing to do with the brand, I chose them that small because of space. Like you said, cost to performance I have been very impressed with.

Hi... First of all, don't apologize for not having filmed the build. I've built several things that I should have documented better and as I didn't I'm not "you-tubing" yet... I love the design, the graphics a brilliant (I assume a lot of effort went into creating those. I main modification I would make would be to recess the planer so that the outfeed table can be used there too. Also if you put a small chamfer around the edges of the tool sections that'll stop material getting caught using the outfeed table (Check out Woodwork Junkie's table). I'm going to give this a go (I need to upgrade the one I built from Woodwork Junkies). I hooked and subscribed. Keep up the great content
@RingsWorkshop
@RingsWorkshop 3 года назад
Thank you very much, I like that chanfer idea for sure. Recessing the planet got tricky with making sure it was flat on top when it was down and the fliptop still functioning the same. I guess it would work if you made the pivot point lower and the bottom side much thicker.
@wonderstud
@wonderstud 3 года назад
@@RingsWorkshop I agree, it would be a very interesting challenge to try to drop the planer so as to get it to match the same height as the rest of the table for the outfeed. Would be super cool challenge to figure out!

G'day mate - there's a dozen different shades of genius in this design. I can't believe it didn't get more airplay. For the power, although it isn't as convenient as having a powered table you could have a pop up power board so you could at least have everything you're using plugged in at the same time. The woodshop junkies channel has a great pop up power board idea which uses gas lift and push-to-open cover. You might be able to slot it into that spare space!

Couldn’t leave without a comment. This has got to be the best workbench Ive seen yet for people with a small space for their shop. I’m fortunate to a bit more space but I could still something like that used as an out feed table for my saw with all other kinds of possibilities for use of the innards. Love the paper door and how it functions. I keep telling myself that I need to use paper when I’m glueing up. I too have a removable layer of hardboard on top of each of my benches to protect the top underneath. Really enjoyed this video and several of your others. I will certainly be back to see more. Thanks for sharing.

I was gonna skip on ahead considering that I dont do much woodworking and most of this shop seems to be focused on woodworking but I see that you've got one of the most topnotch advisers Mr. Tabby So I stayed for the remainder.

This is a GREAT solution for a small space shop. I am just setting up my shop in a one car garage and after my miter saw bench/cabinet will be the table saw/workbench/outfeed table/cart etc. Most of this design will go into it, after I watch this video several times. You do a nice job of getting your point across - good job! !! !!! Definitely a subscriber.

This is honestly the best flip-top workbench I've seen to date. Definitely something I'd like to build when I have the garage space for a workbench of that size. I have something like a 10'x40' tandem garage, with 5 bicycles and a squat rack, and needing room for two cars. I'm slowly accumulating tools, but so far, I've only got a belt/spindle sander, a router I can turn into a router table, an air compressor, and a shop vac - everything else (drills, jigsaw, etc) is handheld.

I am presently making my workbench similar to yours in that all tools are concealed, it is moble, and will have storage. Additionally I have my shop vac plumbed to each tool and I purchased a receptacle that turns my vac on and off automatically when a tool's switch is depressed or released. As you mentioned , the doors and drawers faces do not need to be fancy, just useable. Have not constructed a moxon vise but will as my table had overhangs. My router is in a separate cabinet between the wings of my table saw. Excellent Ideas for your table, wish I had seen yours first before starting mine.

I’ve been drawing up plans for my own work bench and have been struggling with the flip top for my Miter Saw so it can be level with the top. A simple modification of your flip top design has given me a solution. That flip top is brilliant!

Appreciate you sharing the improvements you'd make. We always think of things afterward so it's a big help considering things we might have overlooked. Your door locking concept is a fantastic innovation. And thanks for all the tips on the hidden problems that could crop up. Your comments on making it look like a piece of furniture are very pertinent for a workshop. I have chosen the rustic look from the get go!!! Some great ideas and concepts here. Will be adapting for my space.

This is exactly what I am trying to conceive in my head for my workbench. I'd been toying with the idea of having all the tools bolted to the same size board and storing them elsewhere when not in use. But, your bench is way more functional because I wouldn't have to worry about separate storage for the tools. Yay! Problem solved! Oh, don't you just love WEN? Great tools at extremely affordable prices!
