Welcome to trailers-and-tea, a channel dedicated to mobile home living and lifestyle.
In this episode, I talk about ten things I never knew about mobile homes including: Shifting doors, kitchen sink size, furnace filter size, winterizing windows, no overflow tub drains, noise level, water shut-off in the park, roof run-off, lint, and picture hanging. These are my experiences, so of course yours may be different ;)

Update 11/4/22: The furnace filter saga continues, lol. I had a recent annual maintenance tune-up and found that the filter I have been using is too thin/won't catch all of the dust during air exchange...was advised to use the Flanders Natural Aire 20" x 30" Filter (SM1006)👍

I have a 2013 mobile home and it is a regular home and I use the regular filters as well, maybe your mobile home is not a standard one. We live in Texas where we have hot summers and storms, hurricanes etc and the doors and windows have this system that keep the house cool or warm depending the season and when we get the wind storms per say the doors have like a seal that does not allow the doors to open easily so I love my Mobile Home... and another thing is that is kinda airtight, we do not hear any noises outside, when it rains I find out when I go outside so Iam thinking your house must not have this features like ours. Still leaving in a Mobile Home is a very nice way to cut expenses and live debt free. we are thinking on getting a double wide and set it on some land.

Hi Yady, thank you so much for all of the information you shared about your mobile home...I really appreciate it! So happy to hear that your house is in great shape and is working well for you! My local CenterPoint Energy HVAC technician taught me about the furnace filter when he came to light the pilot; maybe we have differing furnace units :) I completely agree with the economic value manufactured home living provides...so easy to clean and maintain, both physically and financially. Best wishes on your double wide search and owning land...that would be awesome! Thanks for watching and have a good afternoon!

I think always depends on the manufacturer of the mobile home. Some are better than others.

We live in a '98 model DW and our furnace filter size is 16×20. Regular filter we purchase at Walmart.

My pleasure, thank you so much for watching! So sorry, I haven't uploaded any new videos for a while, but I'd say that I like having everything on one level, it's very easy to maintain and clean, it's quiet and comfortable, and it's really nice sitting outside on my patio in the summer. I live on the edge of the woods so I get wild turkey and deer visitors sometimes! Hope that helps and have a good night!

It’s really good to see someone in Minnesota with a mobile home. I have been really considering purchasing one. However I am really concerned about winters in a mobile. Can you make a video on winterizing your home? I am so happy I found your channel. Thank you

Good morning Denae and thank you so much for watching! Cheers to Minnesota, lol! Our winters are definitely harsh and I can understand your concerns. I'm taking a bit of a break on making videos because of my mom's health situation, but I will say that since my mobile home is newer (2021), I don't do much to winterize except to ensure the Heat Tape is turned on in October, apply plastic window film insulation (I didn't do all the windows last winter), change furnace filters on a monthly basis (I also got a service/clean last spring), and keep several spare gallons of water handy (in case the park shuts the water off). There may be more needs for an older mobile home. Hope that helps and good luck in your search!

Hello from Northern Kentucky! Mine is a 97 single wide been living in mine for over 16 years now. I'm the second owner. I can use standard filters. I also use command strips to hang my pictures. My windows are double layer but use to use heated plastic to keep drafts out in the winter but now use insulated curtains then swap out for thinner in the summer. Also I swapped out my kitchen sink because it wasn't standard size. I also wash my dishes by hand can't stand the dishwasher either lol I have a garden tub as well and plan to have it removed... it's wasted space in my master bedroom. My kids are grown now but when they were little they used it as their indoor pool lol Also I've not had any issues with either of my doors. My roof is metal & I love the sound of the rain. I don't hear my neighbors unless I'm outside. Most trailers around here dont have much of a gutter I call them lips lol but can put gutter systems if we want. I think that about covers it. I own my home & love it very much. Over the years we have tweaked a few things for the better & to my liking.

Hello Shellbell! Wow, thank you very much for sharing such a wealth of information about your mobile home living experiences, I appreciate that for myself and for others who may be watching/reading comments! That is wonderful that you own your home and are very happy there :) Command strips are pretty versatile, I bet those work well for hanging...I have butterfingers with sticky things, lol. Maybe I'll upgrade my sink in the future to continue my hand dishwashing journey! I have a few neighbors that like the insulated curtains too. Not sure of the whole garden tub concept, I agree that the space could be better utilized (reminds me of a honeymoon suite motel room, lol!) Haven't had any door problems since late winter; we have a very harsh cold season with very cold wind chills...the weather tinkers with just about everything here during that time. Yes, the sound of rain is very soothing, especially at night! Thanks for watching and enjoy the rest of your day!

@@trailersandtea I had watched another of ur videos of u going room by room. Ur Master bathroom isn't like mine and I should have said that my garden tub is big and round & in the open just a small divider wall with fake windows then there is a large vanity to the right then there is a stall bathroom through a door that has the shower & toilet. Urs is 1 unit to where mine isn't. Lol sry for the misshap on my info about removing mine to make more space but this is y. Lol ty & u have a blessed day as well!

With mobile homes you need to install a real door. If you don't have 2x4 construction like I do it gets interesting.I've been doing a total gut job on one on a second property. We're going to do a total kitchen redo so we'll do what we want there with a mini dishwasher too. As for heat we're doing a mini-split unit that will cover the entire home (it's in NH). Mobile home windows are absolute garbage. And Kinro is out of business now as far as I know.

Hi Snowy Bear, thank you for the insights. Sounds like you have a lot of knowledge about mobile homes and their construction which is awesome! I'm new to them and learning things as I go. Will see what the second winter living here brings. Thanks for watching and have a good day!
