Hey everybody welcome back to my channel! I’m really glad to have you here today.
I am so excited to bring this video to you! This is part one of a five part series of a kitchen makeover that I’m doing in my single wide mobile home. We live in a rental, and so we’re doing a renter friendly refresh of this dark, dank space. I cannot believe what a massive difference it has made just doing what we did to it.
Please make sure to watch all the way through so that you can see what the paint job look like after we got finished. Also, please make sure to like and subscribe. Your likes help with the RU-vid algorithm and push my videos out there to other people who enjoy this kind of content. Also subscribe so that you can see the next four videos going up that will show the painting of the cabinets, the painting of the countertops, painting the island, and painting the pantry.
Disclaimer: This is a renter friendly makeover FOR US. Please keep in mind that all landlords are different, and all leases are different. In our lease it's stipulated that we can paint and update the look of the home should we choose, so long as it's done in neutral colors. We were able to sand down doors as well, to help them look crisper and less jagged, and brought the place to life. But, if you are looking for a "renter friendly" way of updating your space and have the landlord's permission, then this is one way to do it. You could also sand the areas and stain them if you wanted to. It would just give a newer, fresher look. Always get permission first if you're not sure.
If you know anybody who enjoys this kind of content, I would ask that you share it with them so that I can grow this community that I started.
Thanks again for watching. Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you in a video.
Amanda.

Thank you so much! Can you believe that that idea started the 90s? I remember doing some sponge painting where we lived all those years ago. I think I did an accent wall but it looked really neat. Anyway, yeah when that backsplash didn’t wanna work I just decided that I would go old-school, and now we have paint on brick and I am super happy with it! thank you so much for watching of your comment! It really really does mean a whole lot. Have a wonderful day.

@@athomewithmandi you are so welcome, love the ideas you're sharing in the midst, I've been working on renovations in my current RV to give it a fresh look and be sure all the electric, etc is good as it should be so that I can move from out of this old condemnable house soon that used to be my dad's before he passed away in 2022, the old condemnable house will eventually get complete demolition because sadly it's not at all salvageable or repairable, so I'm working on this current RV I just gotten a few months ago in between my crazy full time work schedule. However, I also have 2 othe projects to work on in the midst when I finally get into this current RV...One, I also have a vintage RV I do plan to remodel and renovate, whenever I get that one done, I'll finish the rest of my 2nd van conversion build, for now the van is used not only to get back and forth to work, but also used liken to a truck to get the supplies and materials needed for both RVs then my van...lol 😂 the vintage RV when done will not be used for traveling but transformed and used as a tiny home on the property so when family comes to visit they don't have to stay at a hotel 😉👍it's taking me a little while longer to do these because of my work hours and I'm the only one doing these renovations and remodeling and it's also if weather permits too, it's been pretty hot 🔥 here in west Texas in the triple digits, I have to either do work on them at night or early AM until it gets at least a bit cooler, not cold, but tolerable cooler 🤗 anyway, I'm going to catch up and watch parts 3 thru 5 of your video contents 🤗 take care and God bless

I taped a brush to the end of a old broom stick and painted the hard to reach areas…😂… Just make sure you don’t overload the brush with paint… I love the sponge backsplash. It looks so much nicer and cleaner than the stick on tiles… they were kinda “busy looking”… it’s a lot of work doing a makeover but so worth it…Don’t forget to caulk the trimming that has gaps in it… I see so many forget that and it really makes a difference in the finished look…

@athomewithmandi Год назад
That’s amazing! Thank you! I’m glad the idea inspired you!! It’s super easy to do as well! A tip: when sponging in the paint, make sure to not immerse the sponge all the way down. Just get enough in the side you’re using, then scrape a good amount of that paint off on the paint bucket. It will give a more muted look, but it you want it darker, don’t scrape off as much. This technique works really well! Thank you much for watching, commenting and subscribing! I wish you a blessed weekend.

Hi Mandi, I have used the BIN 1-2-3 primer that is made by Zinnsler. I had bought a house along time ago, where the previous owners were smokers and I used this on the walls. I washed the walls down with a water and bleach mix, but had to use this primer to cover up the nicotine that had soaked into the walls. This primer will cover up wall paper that has a bold or heavy pattern and it can be used to cover up dark paneling as some mobiles have that. You can also use it to cover dark cabinets. It is more expensive than regular primers, but covers really well. Some dark kitchens cabinets could take 3 coats of regular primer, but this stuff should cover in 2 coats, as i have used it on chocolate brown cupboards. Hope this helps.
@athomewithmandi
@athomewithmandi 11 месяцев назад
That’s really good to know! That could help us in the future when we do the bathroom. We still have some brown paneling type cabinets in there that were very much the same as the ones in the kitchen. Now I will say that the Glidden premium paint that has the primer in it did really well covering up what we did here in the kitchen, but I am definitely going to look into some thing maybe a bit more expensive for that project just so maybe it takes a little less time. But thanks for that information.

@athomewithmandi Год назад
Thanks so much! 😊Yeah, doing a kitchen on a small budget is possible, but what we've found is that there is always something that can go wrong and it might cost a little more money, so I would suggest giving yourself a little latitude of about $20 just for an extra brush or sponges, paint.. whatever it might be. I'm doing this in parts also because of time and money. I have a little money each week to add to it if I need to, and I have 3 days off during the week to really put into it... so I'm having to give myself some grace during this whole process. I wish you the very best luck with your makeover!! I know it's going to be amazing! Thank you for watching and for your comment.

Sponge Look So Much Better Than The Stick On Tiles

Oh gosh, I agree!! It's really nice in person actually. Everyone that sees it (with the naked eye) says it looks like real brick. LOL. That's good enough for me! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I really appreciate you being here! Have a great week!

Hi just found your channel, checked it out and I like your creativity trying to brighten up and beautify your space it shows viewers you can take something fro looking old and drab to bright fabulous I subscrube to she the awersome changes and difference at the end of it all but just a tip when painting your kitchen and bath you need to use a paint with primer in it or buy primer seperate and apply before paint because those spaces where there is water and cooking with oil splashing and extreme heat can peel the paint ans also use semi gloss paint hope this tip helps keep up the geeat work✌

Awesome! Thank you for your comment! Yes!! I agree! The paint I got was the Glidden Premium with primer in it. It’s wonderful. 🥰 I had decided to paint/prime the cabinets and doors with the white first so the other paint would cover better. I think it worked out pretty well. But yes, primer is a must. 👍🏼 Thank you so much for watching! I wish you the best day!!

Hi I am new to your channel. The backsplash looks GREAT. Good idea on the chimney too😊What a transformation already. I was thinking maybe the side of the cabinet in the corner where you had to use the extension...maybe paint it white.. it might be hard to do the gray and not get it all over the white part. 😮I can't wait for future videos.

HI there! Thanks so much for that suggestion! I think I'm gonna do that! It would save so much time and paint, and no one will even notice! Thanks so much for being another set of eyes on this project! I really appreciate the feedback! Thanks so much for watching, and I can't wait for the final reveal for both you guys and for us too! LOL

What a great idea for the bricks. It looks more natural when they dont all look the same. Do you put some kind of sealer over this so its easier kept clean?Cant wait for part 2❤❤❤

Hi there!! Thanks so much. Yes, I will be putting a coat or two of polyacrylic over it. It will be the same stuff I use for the countertops when I seal them. I had wanted to do that to protect the paint from chipping when I clean it with rag. That will probably be shown in one of the last videos. Thank you so much for your comment, and thank you for watching! I can't wait to bring the final reveal!! It's gonna be awesome! Have a great day!

Someone help me out here so we can help Mandi out. If you use a white primer paint on the wallpaper OR an oil based paint (which one??), the wallpaper won't suck so much of your paint up, allowing you to get it all done in 1-2 coats.

Hi there. We used Glidden white paint with primer in Eggshell, and then we used the Glidden “thin ice” gray with primer because we weren’t sure if the gray would be enough by itself due to the color of the cabinets. When I spoke to the gentleman at the paint desk and told him what my project was, he was confident that the Glidden would work and was the one that suggested it since we’re doing this in a budget. Keeping in mind also that we are renting this home (have been here almost 10 years), and we are freshening it up due to being tired of the brown and needing a change since we can’t move quite yet. We are hoping to buy next year or in 2025, so we’ll be here for a little while longer. If it was our house, I would have purchased Beyond Paint which goes on in one coat. In any case it’s been nice getting some practice with all of this so we are ready for our own home one day. Thank you for your comment! Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I thought about it, but it just didn’t look right no matter what I tried to do. I would have rather spent more money in a better subway tile backsplash, but since we’re doing this in a budget, paint just seemed to be the best way to go. The sponge brick turned out really well though. It’s been so nice to walk out to the kitchen every morning and not see that nasty brown anymore. The paint also gives us the chance to change the backsplash if we ever choose to in the future cause we can just paint right over it. 🥰 Have a great day! Thanks for watching and commenting!

You should have spaced and painted between the bricks...it would look more real
@athomewithmandi
@athomewithmandi Год назад
I was thinking that I might go back over the whole “mortar” spaces between the bricks with a more textured paint technique to make it look more like real mortar… but the camera doesn’t show the effect as well unfortunately. But thank you for your comment, and thank you for watching!

Hi. Yeah there’s a lot of stuff we did that didn’t make it in the video for video length purposes and part of that was cleaning. That took probably a good portion of one of our days. And.. we have cats, so there’s floating hair. It’s like shoveling snow while it’s snowing. LOL. But thank you for your comment and for watching. I appreciate you guys. 🙏🏼😇
