This was awesome!! I bought my trailer for $7000 1984 model. I pulled ALL those strips from walls and ceilings. I filled them in with joint compound, sanded it down and painted everything. I pulled out all my floor vents, old central air unit,sealed the floor vents, put down padded linoleum, and put in mini split heat and air units. I had the SAME countertops you have but couldn’t afford new cabinets and countertops. I stained my cabinets with Java stain and painted the countertops with white BOAT PAINT LOL 😂. I LOVE THEM! They hold up to ANY stain and I clean them with vinegar and dry erasers. I used the boat paint in my countertops, shower tub and wall, laundry door, trim, and doors. All you need is a wet cloth to wipe away finger prints and stains. The paint is only $15.99 a can but it’s thick, goes a long way, and it self levels which is why I used it on my tub. My trailer is black white with red doors. I used oil rig paint for my deck. It’s been two years and it’s still shiny and black. Didn’t have money for a new porch so I just pressure washed it, sanded and painted with the oil rig paint which seals the wood. Don’t have money for a new roof so I pressure washed it and applied rubber roof until I buy land then I’ll add a metal roof. My lot rent is $225 in a nice neighborhood. That allows me to use my taxes to pay up lot rent for a year. Basically I don’t have much debt. People are buying these trailers up so fast! I’ve had two guys come to my park asking if I want to sell it! He said his business is on stand still because they can’t find any trailers.

This is incredible !! Love your story and I love mobile home living. It's really not bad at all to live in a mobile home - I have a horrid roof and I have applied that rubber stuff 3x and it still leaks in areas ): I want a house eventually but I need to save a lot before doing that. I made my back porch but it's now fallen in - it was made from pallets lol 😆 I'm definitely a cheap person and don't know how I could ever own a nice house - BUT someday that's my goal to have a large home with 2 living rooms and a huge backyard space for decorating and having people over. Love that right now we can coast and save money 💰 and don't sell unless u really want to!!! Where do u live at? I'm in fort wayne Indiana and I want land also but can't move my home since it's over 10 yrs old the city won't allow it to be moved out of the park 😢 so someday I'll have to part ways with my first ever home

@@DavidOwenCreates You are much younger than I am so don’t give up on your dream of a stick built home! I’ve met RN’s, firefighters, and college students that have sold their mobile homes to buy really nice homes after living here for years! One couple lived here 10 years and bought a huge home on 5 acres. They fixed that house up 2yrs before moving. They sold their trailer to my husbands best friend. Another lady GAVE he trailer to someone and bought a nice stick built home with cash! She stayed here 12 years. Don’t give up. My old neighbor was an RN. She moved after she finished college and became a nurse practitioner. She sold her trailer for $6000. My plan is to be done with my trailer and land purchase in 5yrs. I homeschool so we plan to travel and homeschool on the road half the year. I live in Louisiana actually 7 minutes from the Duck Dynasty Estate! Yes this is a very nice area but I still want my land for a garden and a huge deep pool lol 😂. Keep working hard! I wish I lived near you. I would have your porch frame up in two weekends lol 😂. I LOVE helping people! Mobile homes are not everyone’s final destination but it can be a major confidence booster and smart financial decision to reach your goals.

Thank you! I definitely learned a lot through this and I know if I ever did another one I would do so much better than this one. Working with a small budget is hard to remodel everything in a home. So after this video I have been slowly redoing things.. this year I plan on tackling a lot more like the enclosed porch, but I have to get rid of a lot of stuff before even attempting that. So glad you liked my home. I am actually currently in the middle of deciding on changing up my cabinets or not or hardware or what approach I am taking. I want to create a unique look through the kitchen and living rooms that give off boho industrial farmhouse vibes almost eclectic but within those 3 design styles! I am so excited for this

That’s amazing!!! 🤩 how exciting!!! I know nowadays it can seem impossible to achieve something like this but focus on what needs repaired for function in your home. That bathroom light fixture was $6 so I’m telling you don’t worry about the pretty stuff - get the right windows, walls and doors and flooring (as cheap as you can without sacrificing durability). We got my front door that’s all metal in the clearance section at Home Depot it was a custom made $500 door I scored for $100 bc it had a dent in the metal and some scratches. My back door was pre used, FREE! You can find dirt cheap materials, even free you just have to look for it.

@@DavidOwenCreates Friend, I did not feel that this was a crap video. And for a young person starting out and doing this on your own, $5,000 is a pretty big budget. You bought your home and it looks like you are in a mobile home park, thus are also probably paying a considerable lot rent in addition to financing if you were not able to buy your mobile home outright. Add to that upkeeping a car, food budget, utilities and hopefully a generous entertainment budget so you are having some fun with friends! It is quite a lot that you have accomplished amidst the daily costs and etc. And you are probably working a full time job, thus fixing up your home is something you do as much as your can, but you aren't able to make it your primary focus every day because of your work. What I'm saying is that it is completely understandable why it has been 2 years for you thus far (the amount you did in the video). And this is my understanding from just watching your one video I came across a couple days ago. I'd like to see some of your other videos. I've just been researching the heck out of mobile home stuff the last couple days as my focus because the sheriff's auction for the mobile home I wanted was yesterday. And I am thrilled to announce that I won the bidding! I AM SO HAPPY! I am purchasing a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1088 Sq ft mobile home that is 22 years old and sits on @0.42 acres! And I got it all for a phenomenal price! Yay! And my mobile home is quite a mess because it has been abandoned for probably a decade. I can hardly walk around the mobile home because of all the sticker bushes. Roof looks good (but still is due to be redone) and with no visible leaks, but 2 windows were broken. Doesn't appear to be mold, though. I can see the crawl space through the floor vents, so obviously going to need underbelly insulation and repairs. Flooring is in awful condition. And is it a rule that anyone abandoning a mobile home must steal at least one kitchen and/or vanity drawer?! Lmao! 🤣 This is like the 3rd or 4th abandoned mobile I've seen missing drawers! Anyways, watching your video was reassuring to me that it's all going to be great! Thank you for that! Also, I felt like I was meeting a kindred spirit. I bought all this stuff to create my own Christmas tree before Christmas and it's still all stacked and the living room is a mess! Lol! I would like to see more of your home DIY and you inspire me! My ex husband and I had a house we worked on rehabbing before we split. I've done drywall. I'm pretty handy. I fixed the dishwasher, washing machine and TV last year. There's still some jobs I will probably be hiring an expert for and I know this will be an ongoing project for a while. And it's going to be 30 to 60 days before the court finishes up and I get to close on my home. But it's all going to be awesome!
@DavidOwenCreates

@@dontworrydehappy7104 I'm so excited for you!! I def am ready to move on to my forever home though I will miss this mobile home so much. It's served me the purpose and I have been saving for a better home. 😌 someday I will get into it and redo the entire process of remodel. I know and have learned a lot by taking on this project house. I'm so grateful for Any one who helped me out during that time of need. As I was barely making it back then I now can say by the Grace of God I am doing very well and am most fortunate. Some people don't understand living alone can be hard sometimes - where you only have 1 income to take care of everything - my friends think I have it easy and maybe I do compared to them but it doesn't mean it's any easier. Thanks for your kind chat 😀 I am so curious what you do to your mobile home. If you want to send photos email me @ dseman17@gmail.com

I actually was not expecting to make this video, so I do wish I got more video of me doing the work. But I had just thrown the photos together and added music 😂 The ceiling was a pain! It is still not done how I want it BUT there is no cracks and holes anymore. I took out the old hanging ceiling pieces, clean cuts and added new material (dry wall) made sure the insulation was okay as well. Then after securing the drywall to the studs, I went over the dry wall with this textured stuff I found at menards in the the paint section, I added it to my white paint and painted that on over the drywall. I also added more texture clumps in some areas to hide the cracks. I wanted a flat ceiling but I'm not scrubbing the popcorn ceiling off, that will take too long. I hope this helps!

Not sure if you started your floors or not. I love love love my floors. Very durable in my opinion. I have lots of scratches and dents and what not and the sealant has worn down and the color faded alot. But honestly I love the character it gives me old farmhouse vibes so it works for me. But the gaps are a bit too big and dirt gets down in the cracks and it doesn't come out to be honest. Even vacuum cleaners don't get it out. That's something to consider or maybe put the boards closer together. The ones in my bathroom are literally side by side touching and the sealant was easier to apply bc of that. They have held up well and no dirt in cracks bc no cracks are there! .. the whole reason for the gaps was because wood expands and shrinks but I haven't noticed much of either or. Good luck with your flooring

Well I have mobile home, so I am not completely familiar with foundation based homes built on site. The foundation is going to be one of the most important things to keeping that house up. I would most definitely have an inspection by a professional if you think the crack is that bad. But again I am not familiar with stick built homes since I am in a mobile home. Hope this helps!

@DavidOwenCreates 3 года назад
I customized my paint color at Menards! I told them to mix 2 colors to get this medium gray tone. I suggest swatches and bringing them home and putting up against the walls to what rooms you are painting/cabinets! After choosing or narrowing down to 3 swatches, get very small sample sizes and paint them on the wall and you can see which is your favorite with the lighting in your home! I also suggest doing the lighting fixture first to get a better feel for what you are gonna get paint wise!! I would check local resale shops for lighting! I got light fixtures $7 to $10 at this Amish resale shop!! Anything I didn't use I resold on facebook marketplace for the same price I bought it for!! Hello! I am in the process of remodeling my own mobile home.? Any tips on how to get started on redoing the walls and insulation.??
@DavidOwenCreates
@DavidOwenCreates 4 года назад
After removing the previous panels (carefully if you are reusing them) I actually used the old walls plus put new panels over top for better insulation double paneled! I checked the insulation to make sure no mold was present or leaking of any kind, if the previous insulation was fine I kept it, if it was black and wet.. that is MOLD. I carefully discarded that to the outside trash.. i sprayed bleach from dollar tree right out of the container not diluted on the molded areas, if the wood was solid still it's fine, let the bleach soak the wood and wipe it off and then spray it again with bleach and let it soak and put a fan on it to dry before putting new insulation in, I went with the basic stuff from my local hardware store! If the wood is molded and weak like the water ate through it, you have to replace that wood with new! Just cut accordingly and use long screws to attach the new wood to the surrounding wood. Also that means a leak was present so I would find where it was and repair that also maybe and in most cases on the roof! I had so many holes in my roof and I used TAR the stuff that goes on the roads, and gooped it on the holes an inch out from the hole.. and when my entire roof was covered in tar spots and dried... I went over all of it with white elastothermic coating thats made for roofs. I bought the 5 gallon bucket and used 2 coats! I hope this helps you out and feel free to ask me more questions !!!

love this...i love the plywood floors...did u seal them?...how do u protect them from a drink spilling or uhh...a kitty peeing and it going thru the cracks?...please let me know if u did and what u used...and did u use spacers or just put them right next to each other?
@DavidOwenCreates
@DavidOwenCreates 3 года назад
So the floors... they are sealed with 3 coats of a matte polyurethane finished, lightly sanded in between coats allowing full dry time for each coat as well. They probably need to be redone now since it's been a few years... pine plywood is super soft so not made durable for flooring.. However, I went a cheaper route because actually wood floors are way too expensive for me. Also, It is just myself living here not a lot of traffic on my floors. And my cats have never peed on them but they have thrown up, easy clean up! If it gets in the crack, I let it dry and take a skinny metal object to pry it out and clean it up with a vacuum cleaner, then spray it with bleach I know sounds crazy but you gotta do what you gotta do! The spacing for boards, we used a penny to space them cause I wanted a slight space for expansion and shrinking for the season changes.. but my bathroom has no spacing and its doing just fine without it! (The boards are touching) I actually like the boards crammed into each other because the sealant went on faster and smoother and overall no dirt in the cracks 🙃

Just keep your eyes peeled and search everywhere and anywhere Drive to the parks and ask how much lot rent is what bills are separate and all that. That could make or break you, if lit rent cost 800 and you have utilities to pay.. that's too much.. in my opinion. Anyway, the remodel part I actually googled most of everything. How to install a window. How to redo pipes. What to use to patch a roof. I just did it all instead of having someone else do it. @DavidOwenCreates
@DavidOwenCreates 4 года назад
I look at it as something to start with. It's glorious we even have a home. Some people don't 😳 With keeping that in mind. I think being positive overall will give you that will power to push through this. I did it and I had no money saved. I went to the bank and luckily they gave me a personal loan. I borrowed about 6K. I obviously have to make payments on that until it's paid off which I'm more than half way already done paying that loan. I used half the loan to pay off my credit cards, and the other half 3K I had to use towards my nasty mobile home. (haha) just fun saying that 😄 And I knew nothing absolutely NOTHING about remodeling or construction at all! I simply RU-vid EVERYTHING I learned on my own and taught myself things I didn't know I could have done.... so it was a learning experience. However I got the luxury of living at my moms home while I remodeled this mobile home. (If that's not an option choose ONE room to sleep in and either get it done as fast as possible or do that room last) tape it off with clear window plastic its like 6 bucks a roll at your local hardware store... start little by little and ask for help ASK ANYONE tell them you will buy them a pizza for helping or beer whatever it takes 😉 I cannot tell you how much you will learn from other people as well. I started with fixing my roof up.. I used what is called elastothermic insulating liquid.. something like that I patched every hole possible with tar that you use on the roads lmao... then put that white elasto stuff on top of everything. 2 coats. That alone took me 2 weeks to do. Then I did my floors and pipes and then repaired any ceiling damage. Moved onto the windows and I got cheap windows from Menards, which is a cheaper hardware store in Indiana. I paid nearly 800 for 6 windows... which is crazy 😜 BC I paid 800 for this entire trailer!!! Just food for thought. Windows are important to have thick ones not the thin ones, they will help keep the heat and cool in the home. If you have more questions FEEL free to ask them! I am always here! I made this comment way too long haha. Be sure to watch my next home update video! I will be uploading it soon and then my final results will be posted within the next couple months! I'm so beyond excited to share my beautiful home

The floor is made from pine plywood from menards or any local hardware store. It was much cheaper than using carpet or the faux wood!!! I also wanted real wood so this worked out! I cut each 4 ft by 8ft sheet of plywood down to 8ft long by 7 inch wide. Those were the base planks I used, and I cut accordingly when laid down in the area. I sanded over the floor as a whole when it was secured down. Just a quick sand nothing major! Use stain or watered down paint for choice of color and seal it! I used 3 coats of polyurethane! The boards were firm but it's been a couple years now and the seal has rubbed down, but I'm not worried about the floor, it does have scratches and small holes from my cats but I think it gives it character Haha!

@@DavidOwenCreates David, if there is a HABITAT FOR HUMANITY "RESTORE" retail store near you - or even within a 100 mile drive, it is well worth it to visit that place. I bought a beautiful chandelier for my dining room for $8 and it sold at Home Depot for $125. I for a Kohler elongated toilet brand new (Home Depot $245) for $45 and a beautiful perfect matching pedestal sink for the bathroom for $25 (Home Depot $160). The place is huge like a Home Depot and the stuff there comes from homes that rich people buy and their high maintenance wife wants to spend 10,000 b ucks to remodel to her liking. So all the stuff taken out of the high end home is donated to HABITAT FOR HUMANITY "RESTORE" (non-profit) and sold for pennies on the dollar. You can't imagine the kitchen cabinets, countertops, jaccuzi tubs and on and on. my kitchen cabinets are all raised panel red oak - not a scratch - perfect - and the whole cabinet cluster in the kitchen cost me $300 which includes the new matching sink base I bought at Home Depot for $130. I want to send you pictures to show you what we did to this kitchen (new drywall texture/paint, laminate flooring, etc.). Please PM me and send me your email so I can send you pictures. If we ever have to move the place, we can just disconnect all the heavy stuff, remove it and reinstall it after we get the place moved. My research brought me to the fact that mobile homes were made to have the heavy appliances already installed when they were moved. Accounting for that weight, if a person took out appliances before the house was moved, but had other materials that might be considered "heavy" installed, then as long as those materials were not overly heavy, the house would be fine when moved and the appliances, solid wood cabinets, claw footed antique tub, toilet, sink, etc. could be reinstalled easily at the new destination. The moving of the house cost $500 and it took about 45 minutes for the mover to hook it up on the big semi truck, 25 minutes to drag it through the prairie - some on a paved highway and the rest on dirt roads for about 15 miles - and another 30 minutes to put it into place, disconnect it and help us level it a little bit with his big hydraulic jack. He made $500 in about 2 hours. Made me want to buy a semi truck and move mobile homes for a living - good money !

Actually no I did not do that with a jigsaw or hand saw. I used a table saw for that and had some help with my step dad. I came up with 7 inches wide by 8 feet long because I wanted the planks to resemble barn wood floors

For the most part I did, we checked behind walls and I resurfaced the roof, replaced doors and windows I took care of all mold issues and replaced damaged wood including ceiling too. I replaced floor where needed and then put that beautiful plywood over to give that farmhouse flooring. This home is from 81 😁

@dontworrydehappy7104
@dontworrydehappy7104 2 года назад
@@DavidOwenCreates I am glad you didn't let this person get you down. Even if you could afford more, why do it? Twice in my life I bought houses that screwed my budget such that I didn't have a lot of money for as great of vacations, entertainment, etc as I would like. It was stressful. It was depressing not being able to do the things I wanted to. I just bought a fixer upper mobile home. I am purposefully aiming to live far below my means this time. I have some things to sell and do in making this change, but I believe it is so worth it. I don't ever want to have financial stress ever again. Living below your means has so many advantages. And all of it has to do with enjoying more fun, giving more and etc. You can get good seats to a concert (or whatever you wish to attend) you've always wanted to go to instead of just watching music videos. And you don't have to go alone - if your friend isn't well off enough to go with you, you can treat them to a ticket, too. For that matter, you can afford to donate to your favorite causes, which is always a win win. You can put money in investments. 401K, etc. You may think you're to young to think about this, but even putting small amounts in now will accrue so much interest by the time you're ready to retire. And you can afford to retire young and have plenty of money to be able to do all you want to. And you have your inexpensive mobile that you paid off way before retirement, so its been years since you've had a mortgage. If you feel like splurging on art supplies at somewhere other than dollar tree, you can. You can afford to upgrade to more environmentally friendly things, such as solar power, which will all be a win-win for decreasing your electric bills. Insulate your home better, consider composting, etc. You can actually have a bucket list and achieve anything on it, even the expensive things. Eg: I've been hot air ballooning, ridden in a helicopter, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, done drag racing, driven a Lamborghini (the company charges by the lap), etc. When you travel, there are lots of free things to do (gorgeous parks to hike, swimming, etc), but there are also lots of fun things to do. Allow yourself to be financially able to do those things. Living where you are might also mean having a job that is more satisfying to you. I hope the job that is most satisfying for you always comes with a huge paycheck, but if your bills aren't much, you can also afford to go back to school for a different career or maybe make a career out of your crafts. And you will always know who your real friends are. I have quite a mix of friends, but I know that even the ones in half million dollar houses (I'm guessing, maybe 300,000 but they still look big and nice) will be happy for me and glad to come hang out. I hope all people are kind to each other. I hope you soon get to surpass that point in your life where you are living where you are because of financial means. Your home is beautiful and you have put a lot of your heart into it. It could be the place you consider to be your greatest blessing for allowing you more fun in life. Best wishes to you!

@@DavidOwenCreates ps - if you didn't have a junky mobile to redo, you wouldn't be flexing your creative muscles and making it have much more of a creative personality than a brand new McCookieCutterCamper. I did buy a brand new camper a while back, which still cost far less than having a big mortgage, but couldn't get myself to personalize it much because why spend more on something that's already done? I realized after I bought it I wouldn't be experimenting and creating one of those cool skoolies (buses converted to rvs), etc. If the mobile etc is rundown, takes the fear away of screwing something up and looking awful. Lol. And it allows you to create something beautiful. :)
