MOBILE SUIT ZETA GUNDAM - Is It Worth Waiting Six Months For? 

Finally.

I finished Zeta earlier this month. I absolutely adored it. The self-contained episodes gave it this organic and natural feel for the war. While some episodes were unnecessary, many were interesting because of character interactions, the interesting way they had mecha fights, and the darker look of war. I loved Kamille, Emma, Bright, and Jerid and what they go through as the series goes on. Plus, the 3 factions in the end was incredible. However, I think Tomino stumbled towards the end. So many of the characters like Fa and Katz feel inconsequential no matter how much they become pilots. I love Karaba and Amuro's involvement with them, and we do get a good chunk that justifies them, but I wish some episodes focused on them solely. The number of romantic subplots was awful because you just know it's gonna end in tragedy. Kamille and Four was really good, but the rest are either undeveloped or unnecessary. Everytime I saw the signs, I groaned. And, yeah, the finale was really rushed. I don't know why, but the way the Titans were finished off and how all the characters died didn't feel as natural as the rest of the show. It was like Tomino had a bunch of plot points and he just needed them all done in rapid succession. The slow pacing that I liked went 45 mph above the speed limit. It really sucked because Kamille's end is genuinely heartbreaking. One of the saddest things I've seen a MP go through, and that's ignoring the rest of the stuff that happens to him. But the pacing made it hard for it to settle. Overall, Zeta is a really good show that just had a hard time getting to that finish line. Not enough to ruin the experience, but enough for you to just irk at it. Also, I'm sorry, but the English dub change to the opening is so much than the original japanese song. I love the 80s feel for the original theme song, but the track the dubbers had to choose just fits with the military tragedy the show was going for. It perfectly sets you up for every episode rather than the jarring happiness of the japanese song. It's one of the few times I think America did something right with an anime.

A mate at work who sold me on Gundam with 0083 gave me his DVD of this to watch after, the real highs and lows of the Universal Century for me at that stage.

I love how zeta did the 3 way conflict in the end. "Moving parts" is correct- many factions battle in rebellion or fight to take power. The animation aged so well.... also the MS designs were WAYY ahead of its time

Cant decide if i like Kamille or hate him. I remember hating Amuro but loving him in zeta, seeing him matured was nice. Heck i think Zeta was the best UC show ive seen so far. Just seeing all those OG characters grow up and be adults was great

Zeta is a my favorite UC production. Kamille's 'tism rage is entertaining. It also has my favorite mook villains: Jerid and his laughable uselessness; Yazan's terrifying effectiveness; Kakricon, Lila, and Gady being not total shitbags, etc etc. It also has its problems, like Katz being completely insufferable. The dub is awesome, by the way (sorry weebs), even with a non-Brad Swaile Amuro.

Ah this is the sort of content I needed. I'm half glad I found you guys when you had a good collection of content to watch and half sad I didn't stumble over here sooner. Looking forward to more quality content.

Zeta Gundam is my favorite Gundam show, warts and all. It's great to see how the original surviving characters progressed, the new enemy is intense, and the new suits are exciting designs.

I don't think I ever really got over Newtypes and psychic controls for mobile suits. For me, a lot of the appeal of Gundam was the simple fact that the mecha weren't any special space magic, just the progression of technology. A combat vehicle that anyone could pilot with the right amount of talent and training. I enjoyed Zeta very much, as well as the following Universal Century stuff, but this issue still nags me a bit.

And now we wait another 6 months for the ZZ Gundam review.

My favorite Gundam are 0080 War in the Pocket and The 08th MS Team.

Just finished Zeta dubbed and I love how the dub accurately conveys a lot of the vague dialogue in English. I like the dub more than the sub.

When you do ZZ I hope you cover how it and CCA effected each other not just in Tomino's split attention mostly going in favor of CCA but the rumors Glemmy' rebellion was originally going to be Char's, and how there are rumors that mentions of Kamille being braindead in CCA had to be cut because he was recovered in ZZ.

24:03 her voice actress was sick or busy in some other way, Japan generally does NOT recast characters while their original voice is alive. There's a reason Goku is voiced by an elderly woman. A woman voiced him as a child and they refused to recast him ever.

Zeta is one of the best anime of all time. Not just mecha, but overall one of the best.

Another great take on zeta. Never thought of what it could be with 2 part episodes with more deep dive. Now rewatch Zeta after reading "Chars Deleted affair' and making Char the focus of zeta especially after axis appears you'll see the mass amount of growth Char goes through. And i don't feel like scrolling comments to see, but Saylas development after 0079 is non existent due to her V.A. passing away. Mad respect for leaving the character out after so much could of been explored.

Also he goes from hitting Camillo based on being humiliated by him to hating him because Camillo is a killing off most of the people he loves lol

I surprised that you haven't done a Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ Is It Worth Your Time segment yet. I just wanna see your input on this controversy and decisive anime series... Actually the 0079 MSG TV series got really popular because the remastered movie trilogy and also the toys/gunpla as you stated... The real reason why Sayla Mass wasn't in Zeta Gundam or Char's Counterattack because like you said the actress wasn't available at the time so Tomino being the loyal respectable guy that he is decided not to recast her but having her making a non-speaking cameo in Zeta or ZZ.

Recently finished Zeta last week (both series and compilation movies [don't watch the movies]). It's defenitely one of my favorite shows and I can't tell every reason why without saying "everything about it is well done". Currently watching ZZ right now and so far, it's not on par with Zeta but enjoyable nonetheless.

Just finished the show, was looking forward to finishing it so i could see this lol It's got an odd structure, introducing loads of characters and factions for the first 2/3 then trying to resolve it all in the last 1/3 - unlike the more episodic 0079 that introduced then resolved repeatedly. It was easy to get lost in the end part with all the resolutions happening at once, and because so many characters were around for most of the story it was hard to keep track of them all. Surprised how sudden the end is too. The space schizophrenia gets a bit much at points. It's odd how Amaro just seems to get forgotten in the latter parts.

I appreciate the tragic stories more because it gives us the chance to earn a different ending in SRT~

Hard agree that this was more interesting than the original MSG. Kamille was a bit annoying at the start but he grew on me by the end, and now I think he's a better protag than Amuro

I'm disappointed that you didn't have a section dedicated solely going through each time someone managed to just steal a Gundam. Those things were being broken into like they were Honda Civics, i'm pretty sure those kids stole a gundam on 2 seperate occasions. I was VERY disappointed in The New Translation. I figured it’d be a cheaper way to get the broad strokes of the story on a budget. I shoulda just pulled the trigger and bought the entire series.

I... prefer the New Translation. I feel like Zeta didnt need to be 50 episodes and Rosammia's part could have been cut entirely. In the end i felt like i was watching Ozarks and i couldnt like ANY of the main characters.

I prefer ZZ over Z. Except for nude Purus. Wtf Sunrise? And why would you leave that in when you showed it on YT? Use lots of CGI steam and who cares what some creepy ass weebs think. They can go watch whatever creepy moe crap is popular this week. Or is it all about Isekai stuff now? Anyway ZZ starts kind of fun and isn't just all misery all the time. Plus Beecha is great because he can usually be counted on to make the worst possible choice at the worst possible time. Aka he is a realistic character. Oh yeah the ZZ is cooler than the Z. And usually one of the best mechs in any SRW game they are both in that isn't a Mazinger.

Zeta Gundam is my least favourite UC show, where the story is basically propelled forward by petulant children doing moronic things one after another
