The fact you say it the way you do makes me hate you and want to thumbs down you and this is the first time ever watching one of your videos...for good reason im realizing
Pretty sure if *_Senshado_* gets Google translated into _Tank Road_ then the more sensible translation might be _The Way of the Tank._ Probably one of my favorite Shows which may or may not have had an influence on one of my other hobbies: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l3_RcOU3zo0.html 😏
Re: the aircraft carrier schools. I assumed this was an easy explanation for how they got to their battles. Also, anime just has these things and never explains them. Like the penguin in Neogenisis Evangelion or the talking bear in Knights of Sidonea.
I've gotta say, I think your interpretation of the political messages in Gundam being fascist is ridiculous. I really do not see where you got that from... Oh right, you guys previously reviewed 0083 and 08th MS team. I guess I could see you getting that from there. But it's not really something I saw in early Gundam.
Coming back a year later, depression kino deserves more love, great videos with great history and context. Off to Singapore this week and enjoying the rewatch.
I...I love the ending. It's Anno telling us to grow up, just like the original ending, but more elaborated. You can't escape reality with media consumption. Sooner or later you're gonna have to snap back. A world without Evangelion. A world where you meet new friends, perhaps a lover, and you have to earn it. Paired with Utada Hikaru's amazing voice, it made me tear up a little. The 26 year journey is finally over. The TV series send a message to all the children in the world. And this one, to all the children that grew up and matured along with Evangelion. Thank you Anno, for creating one of my favourite thing. Mari, for me, serves as Shinji's redemption. Her appearance shifted the whole story to a new direction, and she accelerates Shinji's growth, both mentally and physically. She is the biggest variable that separated Rebuild from the TV series. Also she's kinda cute and slowly grew into me. (The EVA merch aren't gonna stop for the next 30 years though)
I'm just imagining the NERV scientist working on the Asuka series program and them scratching their heads going "Is it possible to code the bitch out of her DNA?"
Anno will forever be unfathomably based for the sheer fact that he put in his wife as mari to date shinji and giving the middle finger to the fandom despite decades of asuka or rei debate
Adding in my two cents on the weirdly bad CG in the city fight that is revealed to be a sound stage. It's worth remembering that Anno is a huge Ultraman fan and that the basic concept of Evangelion is basically just a rip-off of Ultraman. All the enemies are aliens coming to wreck havoc on earth. The Eva's themselves have the battery timers similar to Ultraman's color timer when the Umbilical Plug gets yanked. All the rampant Christian imagery/symbolism (there is a pretty famous episode of Ultraman Ace where all the previous Ultramen get crucified), etc. etc. So that section of the fight on the sound stage (even the bad CG) is about stripping away all of the artifice of the series that has built up over 3 decades. This isn't Evangelion anymore, this is just two guys on a sound stage doing an Ultraman fight. Complete with all the little model buildings that get knocked around. All this to say I'm like 99% sure it's on purpose. (Also just a fun fact: Anno did all the mocap for Ultraman in Shin Ultraman so he was effectively the "suit actor" for the movie as it were.)
Having watched it more than a few times when editing this together, I'd agree. Given the otherwise excellent use of CG elsewhere in the movie (Big Rei Head™ aside), I think it was a deliberate choice. It's just jarring the first time you watch it.
I will always defend The Last Jedi. The issue isn't that it sucks (it has problems), the issue is that it challenged the audience and analyzed the franchise, and then the next entry didn't build off it at all. It's like if Return of the Jedi went "Darth Vader was lying, he's not really Luke's father, also Jabba the Hutt is the trilogy's villain now." The Empire Strikes Back had the same kind of backlash that The Last Jedi did, but RotJ stuck the landing way better than Rise of Skywalker.
Honestly fair, I maintain that Rian Johnson was actively trying to make an interesting movie and was prevented from doing so by Mousecorp. It does have one of the most dogshit fight sequences ever seen in a big budget film though, this cannot be denied.
@@WeHeartGiantRobots Really wished Jiri did better too. A trilogy would have been epic. Think he needs more technical training and less dark room time, idk 😵💫
I'm just glad to see another classic review with you guys. Amazing content as always! You guys may have a more niche popularity in the platform but I respect how you guys feel much real in your mecha reviews.
Glad this is finally out! Thanks for this even if your well intentioned edits left me with a somewhat disjointed feeling. More videos, please please. Congrats on the offspring.
I really like the 4th film, it's kind of uplifting which is such an odd thing for an Evangelion film. It needed a happy ending though just because the whole series and previous films where pretty depressing.
I'm actually gonna speak out in defense of Mari. I like that they brought in someone completely new and SHE was the one who saved Shinji. That's how life is sometimes: you spend your childhood obsessing over certain people, but then you get out there and meet someone completely unconnected to all of those prepubescent fantasies... and THAT'S the one you spend the rest of your life with. I relate to that a lot. Mari wasn't Asuka and wasn't Rey, and wasn't tangled up in all of the shit that came before. That's to her credit. Mari represents the "wider world" beyond the cradle. She was a great addition.
I like that interpretation of her, actually. My issues more stem with the fact that I wanted her place in the story to be justified more - the issue isn't that she's there and doing cool things, it's that we don't see enough about her.
The third part will randomly switch to a review of Brain Powerd before switching back to Rebuild in the fourth, and we will never mention this fact ever again.
Here’s my explanation of all the endings in Evangelion to newer fans: Tv series: Default Ending End of Evangelion: Bad Ending Manga: Good Ending Rebuild: True Ending The trick though is that the true ending only works if you’ve seen the others…
