Videos shows how to upgrade your Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 to Wear OS 4 and then reviews the key visible features and improvements. It also highlights a key new feature that does not work on my watch!
After I had published the video I read something on Reddit that said that you need to do a factory reset after upgrading to OS4. I thought about it and in my opinion Mobvoi would have said "factory reset" if they meant factory reset because this is a very specific type of reset. A factory reset is a drastic step that you only take with a device if you have serious problems with it. If you think about the similar situation when upgrading your phone to the latest version of Android ... you do not need to do a factory reset after you have upgraded your phone to the latest version of Android. The other thought I had was if you do a factory reset does that take you back to OS3 ... which was the version of Wear OS installed in the Pro5 at the factory??? I therefore believe that my video includes the correct type of reset. What are your thoughts?
I thought the same as you but there were things that didn't work well and I read other people in Ticwatch groups who had already received Wear OS 4 and most said that you had to do a cache partition wipe but if they didn't work you had to do a factory reset...when my watch didn't connect to GPS when I started the walking exercise I decided to do a factory reset and now it works fine.
Interesting. Everything is working well on my watch. However, as I mention in the video the new backup feature doesn't work which has got me thinking I wonder if I need to do a factory reset. As I was typing the above I thought I will quickly try backup ... and to my surprise backup now works !!!!!! I have not done anything to fix it! So everything is now working on my watch. I am sure that Mobvoi do not intend for everybody to have to do a factory reset. However, I am absolutely not disputing the fact that some people are having problems and that these problems are fixed with a factory reset. My own watch shows that the upgrade to OS4 can be done without a factory reset ... so I think my video is still correct .... but I accept that some people may get problems that require a factory reset. I think that would have to be a separate video about how to fix problems after the upgrade to OS4 ... unfortunately since my watch is working OK I do not have a watch that I could use in this video so somebody else will have to make that video.
