I have just purchased a used 2021 Yaris for the wife. Appox 24k miles. Unfortunately, the car failed to start the day after purchase. The dahsboard stated: Hybrid system stopped shift into P position. I belive this happened because I had been listening to the radio for 10 minutes in accessory mode therefore depleting the 12V battery. I have emailed toyota dealer and will update here what they advise. I am very disappointed that such an excellent company could produce a vehicle with such a basic error. I am very much hoping that the dealer will replace the 12V battery with the new manufacturer under warranty.

Unfortunately with a used Yaris you have absolutely no idea how many times the car has failed to start with the previous owner. Each time it happens the 12V battery is degraded a bit which means that it is more likely that the car will fail to start. You also do not know how many days the car has been sat on the dealers forecourt unused. My car would not start after just one day without use. So a Yaris sat on the dealers forecourt for a few weeks will result in the battery going flat. A few relatively short test drives will not charge the 12v battery up sufficiently. I did this video on buying a used Yaris. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RY5VZRhhwto.html From comments left on my videos I know that Toyota Poland have worked with Toyota HQ to define new 12V test procedures with new test equipment and any car that fails the new tests will get a new 12V battery fitted under warranty. There are more details in this video with a link to the Polish news article in the video description: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EHtg81kM-FU.html I do not know if UK dealers have got the new test equipment or procedures. The problem is the Mutlu battery that is factory fitted to the Yaris. If you get a replacement battery try and get a Yuasa battery - from what I have read they are a lot better. I think the challenge will be that a Toyota dealer will only fit Toyota recommended parts ... so you may get another Mutlu. My brand new car failed to start when only 10 months old with about 6,000 miles on the clock. So if you do get another Mutlu battery I am afraid that my experience shows that within a year you may get another failure to start. I have only had one failure to start. My battery was replaced and I know from voltage readings that even that one failure to start degraded the battery. My Mutlu battery was replaced under warranty with an identical battery. Obviously I am concerned that the first Mutlu battery failed to start after 10 months so the same may happen with the new battery so in order to try and avoid another failure to start I wash & recharge my car weekly as shown in this video and keep an eye on the voltage with a voltmeter plugged into the accessory socket. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0nYdnNVgvJI.html This video was made with my old battery ... my new battery has voltages that are about 0.5V higher than shown in this video. I have decided that if the voltages start to drop I am going to go to a local garage and get them to fit a Yuasa battery because I believe this will solve the problem. I have obviously been a bit negative about the Yaris in this message ... but it is actually the best car I have ever owned!!! I have got the Excel with the optional Tech pack so I have got loads of gadgets. The fuel consumption is unbelievably low - on a 10 mile drive a few days ago I got 100.5mpg !!! I can't achieve this on every drive but it shows that the car uses very little petrol. (Although when it doesn't start its also the worst car I have ever bought.) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tvy1g-GbLCw.html I think your used Yaris has failed to start multiple times with the previous owner and the time sat on the forecourt at the dealer waiting to be sold has damaged the battery beyond repair ... the 12V battery needs to be replaced. Do not let the dealer fob you off with an overnight recharge. Under the used car warranty you should be able to get a new battery and then you will have a very good car. Good luck ... and please keep us updated especially if your dealer shares any information with you about the 12V battery tests and procedures.

When I first started doing videos about my Yaris and the associated app I assumed that there was one app globally for ALL Toyota makes and models. I was happily using the "MyT" app when I got a notification on my phone saying I must change to the new "MyToyota" app. Initially I assumed that this was a global change to a new app. However, from comments on my videos I realised that there are multiple apps for different countries and regions and also for different models in the Toyota range. I also suspect that the multimedia system fitted in your car may also affect the app. The only thing I know for certain is that my UK spec 2022 Yaris with the optional Tech Pack which includes the Smart Connect multimedia system uses the MyToyota app. Its just so complicated that I would not even like to speculate which app you should be using. I have also learnt that the features that are available in the app will vary by the car, the year it was manufactured & the country. Toyota appear to be building additional functionality into the app all the time but the app will also require the car to have the associated equipment to support the functionality. From what I have seen the app will hide functionality that is not available in your car and it will only show you the functionality that works with your specific car. So if the app shows you "Remote Start" then remote start is available ... but if it is not showing you Remote Start then I am afraid that your car almost certainly does not have the equipment to support remote start.

I had the same issue with a 2022 yaris cross. It was a faulty 12v battery and once the garage replaced it, it solved the problem. I suspect your dealer did not test the battery for long enough. My dealer indicated toyota used a cheap poor quality 12v battery. Insist your dealer replace it !

Thanks to comments left on other videos I know that Toyota Poland have got new 12V battery test equipment and test procedures and if a 12V battery fails the new tests it will be replaced under warranty. I have put the details in this video with a link to the Polish news article in the description ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EHtg81kM-FU.html This confirms that the 12V testing done by UK dealers will NOT find faulty 12V batteries. The only thing I have not been able to discover is whether or not UK dealers have got or are getting the new 12V battery test equipment and the new procedures with automatic warranty replacement. I have also had comments from people who are being charged £144 by UK dealers to recharge and test their 12V battery. I have only had comments about one dealer that is doing this but this is one too many dealers ... especially now that the Poland situation reveals that the testing and recharging that UK dealers are doing will NOT find a faulty 12V battery. This £144 charge is therefore a complete rip off ... Talking to the service manager at my dealer (who has been extremely helpful) he told me that any warranty replacement for a car that has been bought from new has to be approved by Toyota GB. The warranty on used cars is different. So there is little point in me going to my dealer to complain ... I therefore complained to Toyota GB and five months and several emails later my 12V battery was replaced. A Toyota dealer has to use replacement parts specified by Toyota for a warranty replacement so I have got a new battery but it is the same poor quality battery as the battery that failed to start my car when it was 10 months old so I have zero confidence in it lasting. I believe I have got a Mutlu battery. If my car fails to start again I will go to my local garage and get a Yuasa battery fitted. It will cost me but at least I will have a car that I know will start. You may want to have a look at your 12V battery and see of it is a Mutlu or a Yuasa. In the mean time I am doing a weekly battery charge and car wash ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ch-L0JbbQUg.html This seems to keep my 12V battery charged 🤞 I have also got a voltmeter plugged into the accessory socket to keep an eye on my 12V battery. This video shows how to check the 12V battery voltage correctly using the accessory socket ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0nYdnNVgvJI.html My Toyota Yaris Excel with the Tech pack is the best car I have ever bought ... unfortunately at the same time it is also the worst car I have ever bought!!! I have owned Toyota cars since 2005 and feel very let down by a brand that has a reputation for building reliable cars.

I am as surprised as you. I have owned Toyota's since 2005 and one of the main reasons for buying a Toyota is that they are reliable. I am therefore extremely disappointed and angry that Toyota GB are telling dealers to explain to customers that they are not driving their cars enough and that is why the 12V battery has gone flat. There is a design "problem" with Hybrids from any manufacturer because they use a small 12V battery because there is no starter motor in a hybrid. A starter motor in a normal ICE car requires a lot of current to start the car hence the big 12V battery. A hybrid only requires a little bit of current to turn the computers on but the computers do need a good steady voltage. Hybrid's therefore only need a small 12V battery. This does create a known problem where if you leave a Hybrid in an airport car park for 2 weeks while on holiday there is a good chance it will not start because the small 12V battery will have gone flat. However, this is NOT what is happening with the Yaris Mark 4. I use mine regularly and had done about 6,000miles in 10 months and I had not used it for ONE day and it would not start. There is clearly something wrong with the car. Toyota GB are telling dealers to blame customers for not driving their cars enough because they automatically assume it is the known problem with Hybrid's small 12V battery. But quite clearly in a case like mine I do more than enough mileage to keep the 12V battery charged. There is a problem with the 12V battery. Toyota Poland's dealers have new 12V battery test equipment and procedures and will change any battery that fails the tests under warranty. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EHtg81kM-FU.html Toyota GB do not appear to be adopting the same policy. I have even had comments from people who have told me about UK dealers who will charge £144 to recharge and test your battery. The problem is that the old tests that I believe UK dealers are using will almost certainly report that the battery is healthy. When my car failed to start I was given a print out which showed that the battery was healthy. My battery was eventually replaced and by comparing voltages with the old and new battery I know that my old battery was degraded ... it was not totally damaged but it certainly was not 100% healthy. I owned a Yaris Mark 3 Hybrid from 2018 to 2022. It always started reliably even during COVID lockdown when it was only used once per week. So I know that Toyota can design a Hybrid that starts reliably when used infrequently. Unfortunately the Toyota Mark 4 cannot be relied on to start but Toyota GB do not want to accept there is a problem they just want to blame customers. My Toyota Yaris Mark 4 Excel with Tech pack is a fantastic car with loads of really good features and gadgets and it is the best car I have ever bought ... unfortunately it is also the worst car I have ever bought because it will not start reliably unless I ensure the 12V battery charge is maintained !!!

Now that I have owned my Yaris about 18months and I have stopped experimenting with all the buttons I only use the Hold button around once a month. I only use it when I know I am going to be stationary for several minutes and don't want to keep my foot on the brake pedal for several minutes ... maybe a traffic jam at roadworks or something similar. There are of course other options to the Hold button ... keep foot on brake pedal or put the parking brake on manually by flicking the parking brake button or use Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) or put car into PARK with the gearstick. I use DRCC when I am in a stop start traffic jam - I think it is brilliant in this situation especially if I turn on lane centring as well. I would only put the car into PARK if the traffic is completely stopped with no sign of any movement for many minutes. I have never put the handbrake on manually - that button is totally unused on my car. If I ever drive another car with an old fashioned handbrake I know I will forget to take the handbrake off!!! If you don't use the Hold button you are not missing out on some fantastic piece of new technology ... its just another way of ensuring the car remains stationary for several minutes.

A BT Engineer should set up the new digital system for free. Pensioners will find this a nightmare to install and many will not bother to have a telephone at all and that is a disgrace in today's world.
@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 3 дня назад
While I agree that there are some households (eg pensioners) that may need more support to upgrade to Digital Voice the vast majority of households are more than capable of upgrading to Digital Voice with the assistance of videos like my video. My personal view is that BT should have supported vulnerable user a lot more in 2 areas: - digital voice does not work in a power cut so BT should provide vulnerable users a free backup power supply for the Smart Hub - old personal & security alarms which only work on the old PSTN The rollout of digital has been stopped and restarted several times because of these issues. BT is working on a potential solution (SOTAP for Analogue) which will allow BT to continue to provide a service very similar to the old analogue telephone. This is a temporary solution for a few years to allow customers a few more years to migrate to digital voice.

Thanks to a comment from a Polish viewer I have discovered that Toyota Poland have provided their dealers with new 12V battery test equipment & procedures and any battery that fails the new tests will be replaced under warranty. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EHtg81kM-FU.html I have not been able to discover if the new test equipment, procedures & warranty policy have been rolled out by Toyota GB. I have had comments from people about UK dealers who are profiteering from this fiasco by charging customers £144 to recharge and test their battery - if the battery fails then £144 is refunded. I think this is absolutely disgraceful and Toyota GB should stop dealers from doing this. My battery was recharged and tested as "healthy" but I now know it had been degraded when only 10 months old and it has been changed. I would have been charged £144 if this dealer was my local dealer. In order to ensure that my 12V battery is healthy I do a weekly recharge for 1 hour while I wash the car and I use the solar trickle charger on any days when I do not use my car. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ch-L0JbbQUg.html I have got NOCO GB20 just in case my car fails to start again. I do this because I have to maintain the 12V battery charge in order to ensure I do not suffer from the inconvenience of another failure to start. The bizarre thing is I really like my Yaris Excel with Tech pack ... it has loads of fantastic gadgets (e.g. HUD, intelligent cruise control etc) so that I think it is the best car I have ever bought ... unfortunately at the same time it is also the worst car I have ever bought because it failed to start when only 10months old after just one day without use.

I have since found out that there is a problem with the 12V battery that is factory fitted in the Yaris. Toyota Poland have got new battery test equipment and procedures and will change any 12V battery that fails the new tests under warranty. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EHtg81kM-FU.html However, what I have been unable to find out is whether Toyota GB have got the new test equipment and procedures and if they will replace a 12V battery under warranty. Personally I think that Toyota HQ and Toyota GB have handled this situation appallingly. Some UK Toyota dealers are handling this situation as best they can for example my dealer ... I have heard of others that are profiteering by charging customers £144 to recharge and test the 12V battery overnight. That's an absolute rip off that Toyota GB should stop. I have had a new 12V battery fitted. I now recharge the battery for 1 hour once per week when I wash the car ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ch-L0JbbQUg.html If I do not use the car for 1 or more days I fit the solar trickle charger to maintain the 12V battery charge. I am not happy with doing this but I do not want the car to fail to start again so this is how I ensure that the 12V battery has a healthy charge. Its a good thing that in all other respects the Yaris is a very good car. I often say that my Yaris Excel with the Tech pack is the best car I have ever owned but unfortunately it is also the worst car I have ever owned. I have owned Toyota's from 2005 but unfortunately this Yaris is possibly the last Toyota I will ever buy. In my mind Toyota's can no longer be considered reliable.

So, as far as I understand - the details in the app are a little bit late? Because I'm waiting for my Highlander to arrive in Zeebrugge. The app told me two days ago, that it has left the factory, but VesselFinder shows car carrier Victoria Highway waiting at the port of Zeebrugge. I left US some two weeks ago. So maybe my car is not far away from me :-)
@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 10 дней назад
When I made the video I thought that the order tracker tracked each individual car using the GPS tracker installed in all cars and therefore showed the cars actual position in, for example, the car park at Zeebrugge. However, I now think that the in car GPS tracker is disabled until the customer collects their car from the dealer. I think that the order tracker show the manually entered position of a batch of cars as they are manufactured and then transported across the globe to the customer's dealership. So if the manual update is a bit late then the app will be a bit late in showing the actual position of your new car. If your car takes the same route as my car it will next go to Hull and then to Derby and finally delivered to your dealer. My car took 7 days to get from Zeebrugge to Hull ... then 9 days to get from Hull to Derby and then 12 days to get to my dealer. Your dealer will then need 2 or 3 days to schedule and do the PDI. So if my experience in 2022 is the same in 2024 and your new Highlander is in Zeebrugge then it is getting close but still a few weeks away from being parked in your drive!

Thanks for the comment and I am glad my videos about the 12V battery issue have been helpful. My new car was OK for 10 months with 6,000 miles on the clock and then it failed to start after one day without use!!! I think your car and 12V battery are still new enough to keep starting even after a week or more without use. Your "February" car will be 10 months old in December when the weather will be a lot colder which obviously puts a bit more strain on the 12V battery. I am really sorry to say this but I think December / January may be the time when you experience the problem. You obviously have got AA included for the first year as part of the purchase. In my experience they turned up very quickly and got my car going but they then recommended that I drive it straight to the dealer who then recharged the battery overnight and gave me the car back the following afternoon. The AA get the car going quickly but the real inconvenience was being without a car for most of 2 days. I would suggest that you buy a NOCO GB20 jump starter which will allow you to get the car started within a couple of minutes. You can then drive wherever you need to go. The NOCO will not recharge the battery ... my suggestion is to leave the car in READY mode for 60 minutes to recharge the 12V battery from the main traction battery. A NOCO GB20 is under £100 and it means that a failure to start will not be too much of an inconvenience. I feel terrible telling you to expect you new Yaris Cross to fail to start ... I was aware of the problem but did not think it would happen to me because I drive about 8,000 miles per year and only my car only occasionally has a day parked without use ... but it did happen to me so I am sorry to say that I think there is a good chance that it will happen to you. I also know from talking to my dealer, the number of comments on my videos and online discussion in Toyota Owners club and elsewhere that it happens to a LOT of Yaris owners. www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/217673-12v-battery-maintenance-issues-etc/ Its not what I expect from a Toyota ... my Yaris is the best car I have ever bought but also the worst car!

If you are a vulnerable customer Ofcom have instructed BT to provide a battery backup unit for the Smart Hub free of charge. This battery backup must provide a minimum of 1 hour of power to the Smart Hub. (Apparently the vast majority of power cuts in the UK last less than 1 hour.) You need to contact BT to let them know that you are vulnerable and require a battery backup unit. If you aren't vulnerable then you can buy it... store.ee.co.uk/products/cyberpower-back-up-for-bt-digital-voice-service--openreach-modem---ont--097284-FV55.html I think the whole "alarm" issue should have been managed much better. Modern alarms use WiFi and/or mobile phone networks to raise the alarm but there are still a lot of older alarms that use a landline and require an old PSTN landline. I hope your alarm is a modern alarm that does not use the old PSTN 🤞

I agree that its a characteristic of all hybrids from all manufacturers that the small 12V battery used will go flat if parked and not used for around 10 days or more. The small 12V battery is also a problem for cars that are very low mileage because the 12V battery does not get enough recharging and so goes flat. However, my 10 month old Yaris had done 6,000 miles and had not been used for ONE day. This is about UK average mileage and to not use a car for one day is not that unusual and should not be a problem. My previous car was a Yaris Mark 3 Hybrid which I owned from 2018 to 2022. I owned it during the COVID lockdowns when it was only used once per week to go to the supermarket (20 mile round trip) and it always started reliably. I have Googled and discovered that all manufacturers of hybrid cars get complaints about the 12V battery going flat. However, there are significantly more complaints about the Yaris Mark 4 compared to any other hybrid. I have had comments from viewers in Poland who have told me that Toyota dealers in Poland have new 12V test equipment and procedures and will automatically replace any batteries that fail the new tests. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EHtg81kM-FU.html Apparently Toyota Europe accept that there is a problem ... but Toyota GB still seem to be blaming customers like me doing average annual mileage that I am not driving my car enough!!! I carry a NOCO charger behind the passenger seat just in case my 12V battery fails to start my car again ... but it should not really be necessary for a car that does about 8,000 miles per year and only has the occasional day off and has never had more than 2 days parked unused. My Yaris Excel with Tech pack is the best car I have ever owned - all the gadgets are fantastic ... but it is also the worst car I have ever bought because I just cannot be confident it will start.

You are wrong ... the solar trickle charger connected to the ODB plug does work and allows the trickle charger to maintain the 12V battery charge. The jump starter terminal under the bonnet must *not* be used for charging the 12V battery. I believe this is because the under bonnet terminal connects to the DC-DC converter. The owners manual calls the under bonnet terminal the "exclusive jump starting terminal" ... i.e. it must only be used for jump starting not for charging. If you want to charge the 12V battery you must connect the charger directly to the battery terminals on the 12V battery. The 12V battery is located under the rear seat. I am not sure if the confusion is because you are expecting the solar trickle charger to charge your 12V battery after it has gone flat. The solar trickle charger is not able to recharge a flat battery ... whether you connect to the ODB port, the accessory socket, under the bonnet or even directly to the 12V battery. The aim of a solar trickle charger is to provide a small amount of current that will maintain the charge of a healthy charged 12V battery. I use my solar trickle charger if I am not going to use my Yaris for one or more days. Modern cars use a small amount of current even when parked ... the solar trickle charger is able to provide enough current to keep the 12V battery fully charged when parked for one or more days.

Why does mine say EE on but it says BT on others?
@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 20 дней назад
BT bought EE in 2016. BT now plans to use the EE brand for its consumer products. This is why my Hybrid Connect unit has got the EE brand on it. Incidentally my Smart Hub is a few years older and has the BT logo on it. I haven't seen any Hybrid Connect units with the BT logo but I guess that early ones were made before BT made the decision to use the EE brand so they would have the BT brand on them. I guess if you get a new Smart Hub today then that may have the EE brand on it.

@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 20 дней назад
You are quoting voltages measured at the battery terminals when there is no current being drawn from the battery. That is not what I am measuring with a voltmeter plugged into the accessory socket. There is a lot of wire between the battery under the rear seat and the accessory socket so the voltage will not be the same at the battery and at the accessory socket. The voltage measured at the accessory socket will always be lower than the voltage measured at the battery. The car is in accessory mode so some of the car's 12V systems & computers are switched on ... the most obvious being the screen and multimedia system. These draw current from the 12V battery and will reduce the voltage. Toyota changed my 12V battery a couple of months ago so I now have a brand new 12V battery. I have obviously kept my voltmeter plugged into the accessory socket and I am seeing voltages about 0.5V higher than shown in this video. Most of the time I am seeing 12.3V in accessory mode ... occasionally it is as high as 12.5V and occasionally as low as 12.1V and this has been consistent over the last 2 months since the battery was new. The fact that a brand new 12V battery has never shown a voltage higher than 12.5V when measured at the accessory socket confirms that voltages measured at the accessory will always be lower than the voltage measured at the battery terminals with nothing connected to the battery.

I am not sure what features are on the Touch 2 system so not sure what the differences are but the feature that I use all the time on my Smart Connect system is wireless Android Auto ... This means that I can use Google Maps rather than Toyota's in-car SatNav. I can also use Google Assistant ... so I just need to press the button on my steering wheel and say "Call <name>" or "Text <name>" or "Navigate to <destination>" or "take a voice note" etc Google Assistant will also read texts, WhatsApps etc to me. (But not emails - I think they are considered too long and may be a distraction.) And because it is is wireless I don't need to take my phone out of my pocket. Although on a long drive the battery on my phone will run out so I have to put the phone on a wireless charging pad. I believe wireless charging pads are now included in some levels of trim but I had to buy a wireless charging pad that is plugged into the USB socket in my car. As you can probably tell ... I listen to music almost all the time when I am driving and this means that I do not hear the noise very often. I rarely listen to them these days but I remember cleaning a vinyl album before playing it and occasionally cleaning the needle as well. I think that we have lost something with MP3 files ... buying an album, listening to it from start to end, looking at the album art and reading the sleeve notes was much more of an experience than downloading an MP3 file.

On the bottom of the GoPro there are a couple of "flaps" that you can flip out with your fingers. Slide both flaps into the bit in my left hand then use the screw provided to hold the GoPro firmly to the mount. When I need to mount my GoPro I play with the different attachments until I find a combination that holds the GoPro in the required location. I don't think there is any real rules ... its just whichever combination works in your location. There are loads of other mounts you can buy ... I usually buy mine from eBay. I used a solar trickle charger on mine, using that plug underneath the steering wheel, and it did the square root of F*** all to cure the problem, I love my Yaris , but this battery issue is completely unacceptable..
@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 25 дней назад
The aim of the solar trickle charger is to provide a very small amount of current to maintain the charge of the 12V battery. I only use my solar charger when my car will be parked and not used for a day or more so that the battery does not discharge while parked. A solar trickle charger cannot recharge a flat 12V battery. If your car has failed to start because of a flat 12V battery then I think the best way to recharge the 12V battery is to use a car battery charger or if you don't have one leave the car in READY mode for several hours. I put my car in READY mode for 60 minutes every week to keep the 12V battery charged. I wash my car so that it is not a wasted 60 minutes sat in the car doing nothing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ch-L0JbbQUg.html For information I do this as per Toyota's recommendation. mag.toyota.co.uk/coronavirus-toyota-hybrid-car-maintenance/ This 60 minutes in READY mode is to ensure that the 12V battery is charge is maintained ... but I am not sure how long it will take the car to fully recharge a flat battery which was was why I was vague and said "leave the car in READY mode for several hours".... I am sure it will need to be more than 1 hour but not sure how many hours. I totally agree with you ... I think my Yaris is both the best car I have ever bought but it is also the worst car I have ever bought. I should not have to be doing all this stuff to keep the 12V battery fully charged. I didn't have to do any of this with my Yaris Mark 3 which I owned from 2018 to 2022. It started reliably all the way through the COVID lockdowns when I only used it once a week to go to the supermarket.

I have a 4-month-old Yaris Cross. For the last few days, the EV mode does not turn on for the first 15 minutes of driving, and the weather is warm and the heating is turned off. Could the cause of the problem be a low voltage in the 12 V battery. What do you think?
@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 26 дней назад
If your 4 month old Yaris Cross is very low mileage and/or has regular days without use then it could be the battery. My own car was 10 months old before a single day off resulted in my car not starting ... but I had done 6,000 miles. 4 months is a very young car to have a degraded 12V battery but if you have only done a 1 or 2 thousand miles in 4 months and the car regularly has 3 or 4 or more consecutive days without use then this could have degraded the battery. For information ... this afternoon I washed my car with the car in READY mode to charge the 12V battery. Earlier in the day I had done two 10mile drives and at the end of the second drive I turned the heating off completely with the button on the far right of heater controls (I don't just turn the temperature down - I turn the heating off). I then turned the car on when I was ready to wash it and the car stayed in EV mode for about 20minutes then turned the petrol engine on for just over a minute and then back to EV mode. So I think it is not normal for your Yaris Cross to not go into EV mode for 15minutes. My car is the other way around ... 20minutes in EV mode before petrol engine is turned on when it is parked. You left another comment on one of my other videos yesterday where I recommended that you get a voltmeter. If you haven't got a voltmeter then I think it would be worth leaving your car in READY mode for 60minutes to allow the car to charge the 12V battery from the main traction battery. You could do what I do and wash the car in READY mode so that it is not a wasted hour just sat in the car. After 60 minutes in READY mode your 12V battery should be charged so you could then go for a drive and see if the car goes into EV mode more often. Just in case you are wondering ... the source of the 60 minutes in READY mode advice is Toyota mag.toyota.co.uk/coronavirus-toyota-hybrid-car-maintenance/

A few days ago I noticed that my Yariss hybrid does not turn off the engine as often as before and does not drive in EV mode. Could this be a symptom that my 12 V battery is half empty?
@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 27 дней назад
Somebody else left a comment on another video saying that he had changed his 12V battery and with the new 12V battery he felt that the car was in EV mode more frequently. Which backs up your view that you think your car is in EV less frequently with a poor battery. However, Toyota replaced my own 12V battery under warranty about a month ago and I have to be totally honest and say that I have not noticed a difference in the amount of time that my car is in EV mode. The caveat to this is that although I do believe my 12V battery had degraded slightly I do not believe it was badly degraded because I had only suffered one failure to start. A tentative conclusion from the above is that if you think that your car is not going into EV mode as often as normal and you have had several failures to start then I think that it is possible that your 12V battery is degraded. I think what I would do next is check your 12V battery voltage. If, like me, you do not want to dismantle the rear seat to get access to the battery then you could buy a voltmeter that plugs into the accessory socket - they are cheap mine cost just under £6 from eBay. I have made a video which shows how to use one of these voltmeters to measure the voltage in accessory mode. The video explains why it is very important that you check the voltage in accessory mode and not when the car is fully on. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0nYdnNVgvJI.html However, you need to be aware that this video was made with my old 12V battery that had been degraded by one failure to start. In the video I show that I was typically seeing voltages of 11.8V to 12.2V in accessory mode. Since making the video I have got a new 12V battery and I am now seeing 12.3V almost always and sometimes higher .... very occasionally I am seeing 12.1V ... but I am NEVER seeing less than 12.1V. So I now think that if an accessory socket voltmeters shows voltages below 12V at any time then your 12V battery is degraded and I think it is worth changing the 12V battery before you reach the stage where the 12V battery is unable to start the car. Toyota have replaced my 12V battery under warranty but they have unfortunately fitted exactly the same battery from Mutlu that failed when my car was only 10 months old with about 6,000miles on the clock and after one day without use. Since it is the same battery I think it will fail again in 10 months. I have decided that when this happens I will get the battery replaced at my local garage (not a Toyota dealer) with a Yuasa 12V battery which from everything I have read is a good battery. I will have to pay ... but at least I will have a car that will start reliably.

Today I measured the voltage in the 12 V battery. The voltage is 12.2. Is it normal?
@Helpful-Stuff
@Helpful-Stuff 25 дней назад
If 12.2V is measured with a voltmeter plugged into the accessory socket then yes I think your 12V battery is healthy. I think your battery is healthy because 12.2V is very close to the 12.3V that I am seeing from a new 12V battery that was fitted to my Yaris about 2 months ago. For information ... my old battery that was replaced was typically reading about 11.8V. My old battery had failed to start my car on one occasion after one day without use. I have come to the conclusion that if a voltmeter plugged into the accessory socket is reading 12V or higher then the 12V battery is healthy .... but if it is reading 11.9V or lower then the battery has been degraded. This does not mean the battery will fail to start the car tomorrow morning ... but I think once the battery has started to degrade and I think it will eventually fail to start the car. I don't want my car to fail to start again so if I ever see a voltage below 12V I am going to my local car mechanic (not a Toyota dealer) and get the battery replaced with a Yuasa 12V battery which gets good reviews ... and not the Mutlu battery used by Toyota dealers. == Just a final thought ... If you have connected a voltmeter directly to the 12V battery under the rear seat then 12.2V is a bit low ... I would expect a voltage around 12.6V. If this is the case then it may be worth changing the 12V battery before it fails to start your car.

The best way to link your car to your MyToyota app account is to take your phone to the car and scan the QR code that is displayed on the screen. This video is about fixing a totally different problem but I show how to display the QR code and scan it starting at 48seconds ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v3GuF-ysoWE.html When my car was new the salesman did this for me as part of the handover. He did not need the V5. A few weeks later I had to relink the app to my car and I tried to do it at my desk using the V5 and the app told me that since my car has got the Smart Connect multimedia system the only way to link the car to the app is by scanning the QR code. So if you have got the same Smart Connect multimedia system as shown in my videos I am almost certain that you do not need to wait for the V5. When your car is linked to the MyToyota app it should display all the cards that your car supports ... so if you have got the Smart Connect system with Toyota's built in Sat Nav then the "My Destinations" card should appear.

Just had another thought why the "My Destinations" card may not be visible ... there are different versions of the app and you need to make sure that you have got the correct app. If you are in the UK and you have got the Smart Connect multimedia system then you need to ensure that you have got the app called "MyToyota". I try to explain the confusion in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sfts12NctJU.html If you have got a different multimedia system then you might need to use the old MyT app ... I obviously can't test this so I am not sure which app to use with other multimedia systems. Sorry if all this seems confusing ... don't shoot the messenger!!! When I started making videos I assumed that there was one Toyota app used anywhere in the world. The reality is very different and very confusing!!!

I think dealers are getting tired of Yaris Mark 4s with flat batteries. They will deny that the battery is the problem and blame the owner for not driving the car enough. Somebody left a comment that Toyota Leicester are charging £144 to recharge the battery overnight and test it. If the battery fails the test then you do not have to pay the £144 charge. This is disgraceful profiteering by the dealer from a Toyota decision to use a bad 12V battery from a Turkish supplier called Mutlu. My brand new car failed to start when only 10 months old after one day without use. My dealer initially told me that it was my fault because my regular driving was not charging the 12V battery. I do about 8,000 miles per year - that should be enough to keep the battery charged!!! They put the car on charge overnight then left it for a few hours to see if it lost charge. It didn't so they handed the car back to me saying that I had a healthy 12V battery. I complained to Toyota GB cr@toyota.co.uk and 5 months later I did get a new 12V battery. I have purchased a voltmeter that plugs into the accessory socket and I monitor the voltage in accessory mode. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0nYdnNVgvJI.html The new battery is reading 0.5V higher than the old battery. The old battery had been degraded when just 10 months old. It wasn't totally damaged but it certainly was not 100% healthy. So unless the dealer is using the new test equipment and procedures that have been rolled out in Poland do NOT trust the dealership 12V battery test. My 12V battery passed the test but was degraded and should have been replaced immediately. Its also worth pointing out that if Toyota Leicester were my dealer I would have had to pay £144 - what a rip off!!! My battery has been replaced with the same spec battery that failed when my car was only 10months old. I am expecting the battery to fail again in 10 months. When it does I am not taking it to a Toyota dealer to have the same bad Mutlu (Turkish) battery fitted again. I am taking it to somebody who will fit a Yuasa battery which, I am told, is a much better battery.

I tend to agree with you ... but in Toyota's defence I think the battery needs to be fitted very securely in the fob because key fobs get dropped regularly sometimes onto hard surfaces. The last thing you want is for the key fob to stop working because the battery has moved slightly and is no longer making a good electrical contact. But I do agree good design would make it easier to get the battery out ... while still keeping the battery secure when dropped.
