True, everyone gets nervous but it gives the impression that he has not prepared enough and lacks confidence. I was the same but my Navy NCO's forced me to do a mock board every day. Come board time, I killed it.
This was the first time I’ve seen it, in my opinion it just shows that he knows EVERY NCO is supposed to stand at attention when the NCO creed is recited outside of a board. It’s the right thing to do and it shows he made this board, his board. Not anyone else’s. Good luck on your first promo board!
Nah I tried this at my promotion board and my sponsor/team leader made me look stupid, and then told me afterward that I wasn’t supposed to lmfaooo still passed barely
@@sugarbear9370 You are required to stand at attention for saying any creed. Whether it be the creed of the Non-Commissioned Officers, the Soldiers Creed, or your Corp creed (I.E. Ordnance). Same goes for singing the Army song and any unit or division songs. Edit: spelling errors.

It’s recommended not to. Just try and speak slow and concise think about everything you are trying to say before you speak it. Nobody is perfect I’m working on it. Getting ready for the promotion board this Friday. Hope you do well my friend.
I'd say he need to be more conscious and not use um so much and don't sound like your reading from a script. Make it seem like your having a conversation, but understand that your conversation is with top ranking NCO's, so maintain that respect. He also used the "I don't know that answer" a little to much, maybe not enough to not pass this mock board, but the board members might think he wasn't that prepared. Other than that, he did pretty good. That was my critique on my promotion board, I used um to much. Even though I passed it was good info going forward.
Why do they have you do facing movements? That's like asking an English major to recite the ABCs. It's overkill. Does anyone actually make it to the E-5 board without knowing it after several years of doing it?
For the real board where he wears his Service Uniform, they make you do it to look at your uniform, to see if awards are too far away, or if DUI is placed wrong. Generally, to inspect your uniform other than seeing if you can perform super basic movements.
Very different from Navy boards. The Navy has the Sailor's Creed, we recite that stuff loud and proud. We sandwich everything with the person's rank, " Chief,.........,Chief". And the nominee is suppose to scan and make eye contact to the whole board while answering questions. His "Umms" and constant looking down is a hit, shows lack of confidence. But I don't know how the Army grades their boardsmanship.

@@dallen910 1. My board was scratched, I'll be promoted on MLI .-. 2. The current system has HRC say people are going and they base it on: Promotable Status, Star MOS, Points (compared to peers) I have a lot of points compared to peers, so much so I'll probably hit SGT before them when they have had their promotable status for over a year.
