**Contains some strong language. Mock the Week, Series 19 Episode 1. 22 Oct 2020 Dara O Briain, Hugh Dennis. Guests: Tom Allen, Angela Barnes, Rhys James, Nigel Ng and Athena Kugblenu.
Im actually so glad that Nigel Ng has finally gotten some proper tv work from the power of the internet and an egg fried rice video. i am loving that he is riding this wave to its full extent because thats what he needs to do - he has probably been trying for years to "make it" as a comedian and hes getting it! you go Nigel!
When he mentioned Uncle Bens I really wanted him to say you dont need Uncle Ben, all you need is Uncle Roger. But I guess the stereotype voice might not go down too well for those who dont know him for that personality.
@@weldon29 what are u on about bro? are u a malaysian? do u speak english? even if u dont know how to speak malay you'll automatically have this accent if u were ever raised in malaysia
@@RealIllumin aww is it? That's a shame. I can't watch most US sitcoms because of the ridiculous ott tracks they use... Thank god for Arrested Development
@@RealIllumin they have seperate audience mics which they can mix in an out, thus making it seem dubbed over Also, the zoom laughs were probably dubbed over too
@@natsymons7957 was good of him to step in and save the blow up doll joke for him after the other shut it down. Honestly though the banter is what made this show entertaining instead of “ok thats your 7 seconds, on to the next joke”
@@ethanquirk28 yeah iirc Jo Brand doesn't do the show anymore because it felt too competitive, trying to get your "7 seconds" in, as you put it. I find the banter is best when they get comedians who know eachother from outside of the panel tv scene (eg. Rob Beckett and Tom Allen have some great banter bc they went to school together, Ed Byrne and Dara were best men at eachothers' weddings, Ed Gamble and James Acaster did a foodie show together) but then that makes it even harder for a newcomer to get a word in. It's tricky to get a whole panel that'll mesh well.
@@natsymons7957 still though, I think the individual comic’s humour plays a big part too. He seemed to be skirting around everyone else trying to get more adult or edgy forms of humour through but the others outside of Dara weren’t having it because its not their style. I think if he was on the show with the likes of Russel Howard, Frankie Boyle and Jon Richardson there’d be enough banter around similar levels of comedy with a better dynamic of personalities for everyone to riff off too. Especially since when they were on the show back in the old days it did very much seem to be a conversation where everyone was welcome to build off each others jokes instead of what it is now which seems more of a who can compete to be the one who gets the laugh track with their own one liner kind of vibe
Very glad Nigel has been able to break into the UK comedian mainstream. Also a good thing that the UK has a good variety of comedy shows for comedians: Mock the Week, Would I Lie to You, etc etc
For me, Rhys was always better than Ed until the last series. Ed really stepped up his game all round about a year ago with MtW 18, Taskmaster etc. Weirdly proud of him
He really held his own against some very seasoned comedians. Especially Hugh and Tom. I was delighted to see him on the show and see how well he performed. I bet that he was nervous as hell.
@@arissyazwanaman3211 yeah Malaysian comedy and soh is miles away from the UKs and it takes anyone , even from a similar country to feel the pulse of another country and what they find acceptable and funny in comedy
Unlikely Lines From a Sci-Fi Movie: "Professor, come look at this! Someone on Mock the Week just made a MegaBus joke that *didn't* target Dara O'Briain!"
@@michaelanderson5747 If you entered Dara's head in to a county fair melon growing competition, he'd be disqualified. Not because his head isn't a melon, but because they'd suspect him of cheating.
a long time ago when my arm of the galaxy swept past, I subscribed to a channel that brought many hours of pleasurable viewing, I'm so Happy I Did. Way Back Then..... Thanks for all the Fun !!
I seem to see you comment on nearly every comedy panel show on YT vid I watch. One day I'll manage to see something before you :) till then take it easy mate.
Dara: What did Boris Johnson threaten to pull out of? Rhys: Was it no woman he's ever been in? (a couple seconds later) Rhys: Are there more than 8? Me: Women? Dara: Zoom.
Well with lockdown and no actual audience they gotta improvise otherwise itd be awkward as hell. Still, it is kinda annoying they used the same couple of audios.
Hugh in glasses can be my daddy... I'm confused though, I thought they were reading glasses because I've only seen him put them on to look at something on the desk or such, but here he put them on to see the audience
Hooray! I've missed this show. So happy to hear them talk about actual current events instead of stuff from 10 years ago (had to watch older and older episodes while I waited). Will you be posting these every Thursday?
Who would have thought complaining about a BBC video on egg fried rice would lead to numerous TV gigs in the UK? I bet he had msg in his back pocket, just in case
@@_WhiteW0lf_ Perhaps I should have made mine a bit more obvious, as I quite did. More exclamation points, perhaps? Seriously, in case I have not made myself quite clear; yes, I understood it. Thank you.
When they said Nigel had to talk about food, I just knew he'd start with rice and ricecooker. He even ranted about colanders (poor Auntie Hersha must be watching and rolling her eyes.) I'm just disappointed he didn't enumerate the various benefits of ajinomoto
