Nice video Zed, the one issue I have had is getting the blade sharpened due to the curved blades. A short video with sharpening techniques for this style blade would be nice.
Question. Are these types of tools mainly for hard woods. I ask only because, some types of wood work cross grain. Great video. And this tool is new to me….
Ira my man how goes it, they are amazing tools heh, have lots of requests on filming a video on how to make one so i'm gonna try my best to cover that ~Peace~
Good man Steven, files do make good blade's, very underrated metal, but it's all in the heat treat, I've made all my knives from old file's and two mocataugans. Nice one Zed and atvb. Paul.
@@Zedoutdoors Made them a few year's back Zed to see if I could, ended up giving them to a couple of friends as I had no real use for them at the time, but I intend to knock another one up as now it could come in handy.
@@neanderthaloutdoors9202 I have one what I coped from a Ray Mears one , but I need a handle and how do you make a handle and how do you sharpen them. Thank you in advance.
Another great video Zed. I like your odyssé into the people, tools and techniques of differnt places and times. Also cool to se that he uses a Norwegian Jøtul to keep warm :)
I sincerely appreciate your kind words and for watching Gerhard. Ah so thats the name of the fireplace, appreciate the heads up as I was fascinated by that seeing it in Steves workshop ~Peace~
Ah yes you're right, when I visited Martin Hazell way back he had one of Jarrods original Mocotaugans and it was a beaut! Hope your operations wenw well Penelope and sending you lots of healing vibes x ~Peace~
Hi Zed. Great and inspiring insight into this special tool! Have you ever considered making a complete video on carving a long bow or native American flatbow? Maybe utilising a mocotaugan.(As far as I can see in your video collection, you haven't done one yet? 😊)
Indeed yes I do have plans to film a tutorial on making that, alas these lockdowns in the UK have prevented me from being able to go out and film ~Peace~
@@Zedoutdoors Okay! Well, I'll keep my crossed for the lockdown restrictions will get less strict in the nearby future. I myself is a novice bowyer from Denmark. Recently I have begun carving spoons and such. Thoose skills has taken my bowmaking to a new level. And your videos has been a great help and inspiration. I would really like to find new ways to carve a bow in more free manner without a shavehorse and the likes of it. Looking forward to new carving videos on your channel! ~Peace~
@@Zedoutdoors wow interesting tool be orford makes them too looks like tool I used to use trimming up horse’s hooves great video as always good friend 👍🇮🇹🐾🦊🍀
Very nice vid! While I don't think I could be convinced to use this tool over a shaving horse for a lot of the work here, I am interested in trying a knife of this design for smaller detail shaping. Thank you.
Thank you kindly Sean, reg more literature i'm actually in the process of collating a vast array of information on the Mocotaugan and will be publishing as an extensive article on my blog. Stay tuned to my social media as i'll be announcing there when it's live ~Peace~
Zed Outdoors if you need a blind man definitely be interested long as you can keep up with the jokes. Do use a shape force when you use them knives?. And that should’ve said shave horse. Sorry use Siri to dictate my messages and doesn’t always pick up what I say
