I just finished the mod on my pocket4k, I'm so happy ! I feel like moding some more stuff, nothing can stop me now :D thx for this experience

I'm SO close! I did the mod and I've even used the camera on a few gigs and love the form factor of the screen on top and the mini v-mount; however, a couple of things aren't working for me: 1. The mini xlr input doesn't work, so I can't connect an external mic and 2. The DC Power input doesn't work. I'm guessing I just didn't get something connected right or a ribbon came loose when I put everything back together, but can anyone help me figure out which ribbons might be the issue so I don't have to start from scratch? I sent Ollie and email too. Thanks!

I think maybe my cable is not working, I have tried several times now to check - reconnect the ribbon cables but still getting a black screen and HDMI also seems to not work

Very nice! Is the 6K Pro supported or is it the regular 6K only? If so, what in theory is keeping the Pro from a mod like this?

Hey bros you ain't gonna give us 6k owners a little THERMAL PASTE HMM? Just gonna have us raw dog it right on without a little pea sized drop on what looks like a pretty major heat sink and sensor huh? That's what's happening here?

Hey Freddie! My 6K cameras worked fine after modding without adding more thermal paste.. Was a fair bit of yours rubbed off while modding? Let me know if you'd like me to mail you some more thermal paste!

@@podtechmodkit I used a sharp rubber tip from a pottery tool to slather on the excess, but I'd be wary, fellow users, that if you encounter future overheating issues, this is likely the culprit. Cameras are basically little mini computers, and those chips get hot fast and will shut down if they're not dumping their heat well.

i too am having issues. i just 'finished' the mod but the screen doesn't turn on. camera powers on but the screen won't come on even with the regular canon lp6 battery. spent a good 6 hours today unplugging and plugging the screen cables in. will try what the other modder says to try the screen direct without the extension cable to see if it's the cable. so going to step back and come back at it later this week.

Hi Sammy, the Mod for the 6K Pro / Full Frame is still in the works at the moment, as we've had numerous delays with our production company unfortunately. I'm hoping we can have it ready by the end of the year but it's difficult to say for sure!

8:44 there are two Torx screws on the 6K not mentioned here before I could remove the board. Took awhile to figure that out.

also at 10:47 for the 6K there are two Philips screws keeping a guard on the 1/4-20 top screw, preventing the frame from coming out.

Welp. No screen response upon installation. Wildly disappointed. Triple checked my connections and still nothing. Going to come back to it later. Hoping I didn't just fry my camera after the hours and $ on this mod. Trying to give us 1 guide for 2 cameras feels mega cheap... especially without the difference call-outs being flawless.

Same for me with the screws. I also need an screw driver for these, which was not included. Please make an second review for the 6k. I almost break a plate, because of this not mentioned screws.

let me know how you get on and if you work out whats up, and thanks for pointing out the extra screws im sure thatll come into use. my issue was that the first 4 screws on the front that hold the two parts together arn't actually Torx and the tools sent are not the right size so having to pull out the pc repair kit instead, will update and see how i fair going to be suuuuuuuper careful after reading your comments might even just send it off to the install guys :/

Done with the install :-), had to reconnect one ribbon cable to the the display and fiddle with the touchscreen connection before I got it all working. Didn't have a v-lock battery on hand so have to test that as well before calling it a complete success 😅.

V-lock powercable wasn't seated properly so had to open up again 😅. But now everything is working ✌️. Thanks for this cool mod!

I got most of the way through the mod and can’t close the body without the screen disabling. It seems to mainly be a design issue here. The friction from the ribbon on the screen connecter seems to be enough as the unit closes to disconnect or twist the plug enough so that it doesn’t fully connect, preventing power and connections to the screen. So the screen can work if things are connected with the camera body split apart, but as you connect it, the ribbons inside get loosened as well as the connecting plug from the back of the frame to the body. I now have an even more expensive pocket 6k brick due to the poor design. Note that I’ve replaced the pocket 6k screen myself before and there were no issues with that process.

I got it figured out. I ended up putting some thin double sided adhesive tape between the connection ribbon at 24:50 and the metal. Then I put some behind the black ribbon as well to secure it to the body to stop that being pulled as well to make sure it stay secure. I took the rubber padding off the back of the connector pin and built up the height between that and the ribbon connector with layers of gaff tape until it was thick enough to push on the connector and it all stayed in place. I would recommend that anyone doing this buy a good torx bit as the one included strips very easily. I had a heck of a time getting some of the screws back in as it stripped pretty easily.

I love this idea! I’d totally do it on mine, but not being able to use a cage is a deal-breaker. Maybe there’ll be a version 2?

Thanks for the suggestion! At the moment we're working on a Mod for the newer Blackmagic cameras, with a few tweaks, but no plans for a V2 for the 4K and 6K G1 at the moment.

@@podtechmodkit There was no loose on the ribbon (bmpcc6k) so I needed to put the connect first and then slide covers together

Quick update: My screen does not work after the mod. (The camera itself still does) Even after I check all the connections and made sure there is no dust or similar at the connector. When I disassemble the extension cable, which comes with the kit and plug the monitor directly to the camera it normally works. So in my case, definitely the extension cable from the kit is fault. I’m in contact with Ollie, and will receive a replacement soon. So until then I do have one camera less and have to rent an additional camera, when I have a multiple camera job. I’m not happy about having this video, where some screws the pocket 6k have and also the tool for that screws are missing. And now the cable which is not working from the kit. Please improve this Manual and the quality check.

@@AlexRian_ wish I knew but I've tried everything I could do to clean the small connectors and ribbon cables which are super fragile so really anything could've really gone wrong so unless you're ready to lose your camera forever I wouldn't try this mod. I really wanted this to work I really did would've been awesome. Not gonna cry over spilt milk time to move on.
