Modal's Argon8 is an expressive polyphonic synthesizer that brings wavetable synthesis to a new generation of users. Capable of the cold, nostalgic tones of classic wavetable synths as well as distinctly futuristic timbres, the Argon8 provides an impressive punch for the price.
Argon8's wavetables are were carefully sculpted to provide access to a wide variety of sounds from classic analog-style techniques to esoteric, algorithmically-generated, glitchy sounds. With four oscillators per voice, extensive wave shaping and audio modulation options, a morphing resonant filter, and three stereo effect engines, Argon8 will do everything from smooth, slippery bass lines to crackling atmospheric textures.
All this combined with an eight-slot modulation matrix, velocity and aftertouch-capable keybed, and 512-note sequencer makes the Argon8 an uncommonly flexible tool for exploring the timbral universe of wavetable synthesis.

Great demo! You got a lot of unique sounds from it. I own an Argon8 and love it! It’s got a great balance of flexibility without being overwhelming. Modal did a fantastic job on this one IMO.

Another fantastic demo. I’ve been really really loving this synth. Undoubtedly one of the best poly synths I’ve owned and one of my favorite synths in general. It can go from sweet and warm to cold and batshit crazy in a heartbeat.

Excellent demo! Modal Argon8 is a wicked synth. Many roads to go down with this incredible instrument. I prefer playing it in my bathrobe by the beach with a handle of Wild Turkey at sunrise.

It’s just weird that we are getting analog synths these days with split and layer capabilities but digital synths like this and the HydraSynth don’t have those features.

I love this synth. The only real draw back is being monotimbral so using it for complex arrangements live can be a bit challenging but it's great for using to record synth lines, pads, etc for arrangement in a DAW

T. N. The Prologue has 8 voices and is bi-timbral. Same for the Rev2.

Oh man. I was set to buy a Prologue (a very, very different synth, I know) as my first big boy poly, but this synth is giving me option paralysis.

I have a Prologue and its nothing like Argon your right, its an analog fat sounding beast. Argon is a poly as well but mostly a wavetable synth that does some analog modeling. Argon is my next purchase, and I would not choose either or. Argon won me with how it sounds just like Prologue did. Thought about Hydrasynth but to me it sound is just not there even though its feature packed.

@@maxzhdanov8000 Thanks. Yeah, the Hydrasynth is by far the most impressive- based purely on features, but the sound is just not what I want. Maybe some future updates will get it there, and many users have sworn that it can currently be dialed in to sound warmer, but I don't want to take a risk on it yet- poly AT or no. With regards to the Argon and Prologue, I'm not really thinking either/or as much as I'm trying to decide which will be first. I also have to consider if I want the Prologue 8 or 16 and/or the Argon8/M/X. I don't have a lot of experience with using more than one timbre in a synth (will I even use this often?)- so I have yet to even decide how many voices I want on the Prologue. Though, I guess being indecisive about which cool poly synth you want is a good problem to have. :)

I think I'll be getting a WaveState at some point. 4 reasons: I always wanted a Wavestation back in the day. I like the new unique Wave Sequencing it introduces. I have a Modal Skulpt which has some of this synths character though not fully (don't want to mislead). And Well I have a very soft spot for Korg as the first synth (DW-6000) I ever bought and that still works to this day.

you're not alone. I was disappointed also and send mine back. Their choice in stock presets baffled me until I had a few hours to make some of my own presets - there's just not that much pazaz or oomph to this thing. The main issue for me is the weak and stale filter, the horribly small screen and nav knob, and a general sort of watered down sound. It will do some nice pads but overall I wasn't at all impressed by the sound. There's just nothing crazy or characteristic about it. Nothing standing out. No soul. Although I haven't checked to see if the account of the original poster is indeed a troll account, I can assure you mine is not. I really did want to like it. I even reached out to Modal to see if they could send me a shirt to wear because I was planning to do a full video review of it. I've always wanted to get an 008 or an 002. To its credit I think this is a synth that alot of people will enjoy as a first synth. But when you compare it to whats on offer in the same price range both above and below, it becomes far less appealing.

Hows the build quality? As shit as everything else they make? Are they shitty 3d printed knobs that fall off like on the skulp? And whats with the volume dipping when in poly mode? Fine after an update then reverts back to loss of volume again. And playing notes without even touching the keyboard 🙄 Build qualty wise they are worth shit but I do love the sounds they make and I love a randomizer!

The Skulpt is pretty poor in terms of build quality but an amazing synth for the money in terms of sound design. Will upgrade to the Argon8 sooner or later.
