"Modal Skulpt Synthesizer into Elektron Digitakt"
FEATURING:
Six little grooves I made by recording the Skulpt Synthesizers directly into the Elektron Digitakt. I am still pretty new to the Digitakt, so this was a great excersise in getting to know it better. I am brand new to the Skulpt Synthesizer and this was a fun way to start getting to know it, too.

Thanks, Buddy! Still not gelling with these little guys 100%, I definitely need more time with them. I might do another example, recording them into Ableton - where I can do a bit more mixing and arrangement than I currently can with the Digitakt. Not sure I'll have the time though... 🤗😁👊

Congrats on your Skulpt. I backed it myself. Quite a bit of power in that little box. I think I'll take a page from your book and start snipping stuff into my Digitakt as well. Great work here. Very enjoyable.

Thanks for the kind words, Buddy! I haven't really gelled with the Skulpt still.... 🤔 I found the factory sounds to be pretty lackluster and un-inspiring, which left me a little unsure how to approach this project... I do not have the extra time to program a full set of new sounds to work with... It seemed maybe a good opportunity to get to know the Digitakt better, (which it did help me to do), but at the end of the day, i'm just not 100% happy with what i've made here, musically, and I think I over-compensated with flashy visuals... I think the MONO factor on the Digitakt only ended up enhancing the narrow sound of the Skulpt, and I should have done WAY more panning (or something?!?! 🤣) to try and compensate for lack of a proper stereo field... Might try again in the Future, using Ableton or one of my STEREO samplers at least, but for now.... The Skulpts are off my desk.... I am *really* underwhelmed by them so far... 😞😞🤷🤷

Well, we are our own worst critics. I've been finding success utilizing my Skulpt with a collaboration of other small, analog synths. It adds a nice, comparatively different texture which broadens the pallet. Perhaps, all on its own, it becomes a little lack-luster for you. I'm going to explore running my Skulpt through a gentle, stereo chorus and see how that works.

I tried it with a chorus and it really opened it up. A bit of depth brings out the harmonics of the filter more and makes it sound a lot more powerful. P.S. @@MattGreerMusic Am hoping that having stereo on all my other tracks/instruments will help as putting the Skulpt through the middle, I will either need to use some panpot style delay, or ensure that the other sounds spread nicely across the stereo field so it isn't so obvious. Still I am loving some of the sounds but will have to wait and see once mine arrives!

Thanks, Bro! I'm feeling like I could do a better job making the Skulpt sound good if use Ableton instead of Digitakt, being as I'm still super new to Digitakt and am not using it to it's potential at all yet. Maybe more Skulpt examples to come in the future. 🤗😁👊

@@alyeska4226 I really get that squash, Bro! The mono thing is definitely a big limitation with the Digitakt imho. In the future, I want to try and use it more for drums and maybe some bass samples, but less for *main melodic content*. I just got an Octatrack on Black Friday and i'm having quite a hard time wrapping my head around what I want to do with it exactly. It's really deep. Like, scary deep! 🤗😁👊

Great video and great compositions! The Skulpt must have some snappy envelopes to make that good of drum sounds. Highly considering the one myself now that it’s on sale through retailers. Would you recommend it? Also what’s the white desktop synth in the far right?

Hey Hey and thanks for watching! 😀 👊 After having the Skulpt synths for a few months, I just didn't gel with them that much personally and sold both of them. Many other people seem to like the sound of them more than I did... ? The desktop synth you're asking about is a Novation KS Rack, which I love and have been wanting to get in some videos! WOOT! 👍

@@HotStrange I am definitely not going to be getting any more Synths from Modal... 😏 Digitone vs. Argon8? Apples and oranges here, sorry - the Digitone is 4 FM synths and a complex sequencer, and also 4 tracks of MIDI sequencing. 😀 👊

Hey really like these songs especially the one that starts around 3.05. I’m thinking of buying a skulpt but have heard they can be a bit temperamental especially after they’ve been used for a while. Are you still using yours and if so how well is it lasting

Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 I was an early supporter, and purchased 2 during their initial kick starter campaign. I realllllllly tried to gel with the Skulpt, but after a few weeks - it was pretty obvious that it was just not for me. I was not happy with the *sound* of them - and both got sold. For the most part, I don't sell *anything* - so this really *means something*, if you get my drift. 🤓🤓 I know the price is tempting on these, but make sure you listen to as many demos as possible to be sure that you really like the *sound* of these before buying one.

@@avene Thanks, Bro! Yeah - the gear has expanded quite a lot the past year in here. I'm really pushing hard on the "Hybrid Producer" aspect with my new sound design and sample packs. After being pretty much 100% "in the box"' for many, many years - I really wanted to integrate some hardware and inject some fresh new life in to my work. Plus, I can live jam again with countless set up options now, which is a huge bonus, too. Woot! 🤗😁👊

The presets on the skulpt do not do it any favours. It's got a great individual sound that I suppose you either like or don't. I do, but those horrible edm type presets just let it down. Turn a few knobs and you'll find what a deep characteristic noise it can make.

When I made this video, I was still finding my way around the Digitakt, and I had just gotten the Skulpt Synths - and it seemed like a decent idea creatively... Looking back, maybe not my best creative choice, but there it is... lol 😀 👊 That being said, I didn't really gel with the Skulpt synths, and I have since sold them to help fund the purchase of my AKAI Force. The sound(s) they were putting out just really didn't inspire me to use them in the end. 🤓👊

Hey Hey - thanks for watching! 😀 👊 Yeah, I was trying to better learn the Digitakt by recording the Skulpt synths directly into it, and i'm not sure I made the right choice there. 🤓 Seeing as how both the Digitakt and the Skulpt Synths are still pretty new to me, I might have been better off just trying to do something in Ableton with them instead. The Skulpt has a pretty narrow (almost mono) feel to the sound, and recording into the Digitakt (which records everything in mono only) was maybe not the best choice really. 😏 I should have done more panning with the sounds inside of the Digitakt to compensate for that maybe, too. 😀 👊 Thanks for the kind words about the music at the end - that was made with my "velvet Carbon Techno" sample pack which does not contain any thin, or mono sounds - *I Promise*! 🤣👊👊
