I just planned my keyboard todya and i have the Keychron C2. plan on using milky yellow switches and doing a tape+foam mod. thanks for the vid! Will come in handy
Hey! Great vid, I just got the retro c1!!! I really appreciate that you showed aligning the port and Mac/windows switch with the board 👏🏼👏🏼think I'm gonna add foam too
I might consider building this just for fun. I’ll probably do similar mods and work my way around the north facing pcb with some akko switches or something. Great video man Incredible dog as well
Hey great video, I just got my Keychron C1 and currently enjoying it on stock but after watching your video I'm really tempted to make those changes. However I have no clue what most of the lingo keyboard enthusiasts use means, like Switch Film and Stabs (stabilizers I'm assuming) and PBS keys. Is it possible for you to make a video that sort of introduces people into the terminology and common practices a keyboard modder would use?
I'd love to make a video that introduces common practices and terminology used by modders/enthusiasts. However, by the time I'd release one, it would be already "too late" as I have a bunch of videos lined up - a very popular keyboard enthusiast, Teaha Types, has very beginner-friendly videos that explain everything is to know about the hobby. I'd recommend watching ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1NpNygIrnaQ.html , ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-usNx1_d0HbQ.html , and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-44Wv4OGdmu4.html Happy modding :)
My guy you are underated, this is real top quality content and the editing is flawless. I had no idea you had 47 subscribers (as I commented this) until I noticed the small amount of comments. Keep it up!
I got the C1 pro today (keychron pro red switches instead of gateron) and will look to mod it with foam and tape (I like the switches) and change the OEM keycaps with XDA minimalistic ones. Comparing the stock sound of C1 pro to C1 (C1 pro comes with PBT keycaps), it does sound a lot better (the stabilisers don't have the glue issue and they already kinda thock)
It’s more of a one and done process from what i heard- krytox (according to them) doesn’t dry out. I guess you’d only need to reapply the lube if it gets really really dirty and the places you’ve lube has been affected. But to play it safe and save time it’s just a one and done thing. No need to open up switches and stabs to reapply lube
Yo what type of keycaps are thoose they look like XDA profile but I can't find keycaps similar white keycaps anywhere online with the Japanese symbols. Do you have the link for it or perhaps just something similar to it?
How big of a difference does the tape and foam make? I just got the c2 and might mod it eventually. I came from a 10$ Logitech k120 so its quite the jump
From my experience, it changes the sound of the keyboard a whole lot compared to having no tape or foam. It gets rid of the hollowness the stock keyboard has. Some people do like that sound though. IMO it's the most beginner-safe mod you can do for a keyboard as long as you know how to take it apart and put it back together. You'd have to make sure the foam isn't too thick or too dense, just enough to screw everything back in place without forcing it.
yea, that's a downside to them. But there are shine-through keycaps. They're available on online retailers like amazon that provide the comfortability of seeing the keys with RGB/lighting.
Yo great vid! Do you think just having a foam and tape mod will do the trick to make the board sound better? I wanna do it but I wanna see what others know on the mod. P.s, foam mod as in the one where you fill the bottom of the board to make it less holo.
As a noobie whose never done this before. Is it safe if I take apart this keyboard and do the foam mod? Am I able to damage anything If I'm too careless, I just swapped out my first switch for practice lol. I want to do the foam mod before I get my new switches.
Definitely, something can be broken if you're too careless. I would recommend watching a breakdown/walkthrough of how someone might take apart the model of keyboard you got. That's how I started out. It'll be intimidating, but the more you do it - the more you'll get a feel for it! Happy modding! Goodluck!
I’m trying to get my c1 to sound like this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1I7ffpbfvE8.html I put 5 layers of tape and some thicc foam, but idk what switches to get
Thank you :) as for how many layers I used. I think I’ve use one layer of foam. It’s pretty dense though, I used the one included in the packaging of the keyboard :D
@@its_jeyem hey thanks for the quick answer! i'm thinking on buying this keyboard and make a few mods on it so i've been looking at videos for a while, im glad to see that it will turn out pretty good, great job btw! :D
@@PabloBarrera25 :) you’re welcome! I wish you the best of luck! I think the newer batches of this keyboard are free from glue. Just expect a tiny bit moisture build up on the stabilizer tabs from shipping due to temperature changes (I assume from the airplane ride). It’ll create a weird suction. You’d just have to wiggle them a bit but not as much!
Good question, the pe foam (the very flat/thin looking foam) goes ON TOP of the keyboards' board to be sandwiched down by the top plate and switches. It does not go behind where the tape and case foam are at. The order should be - bottom case - case foam - tape mod - board - pe foam - top plate - switches
In a way yes, the foam mainly prevents the sounds of the switches from going into the case. It flattens/deepens the sound signature (basically thocc). It also provides extra security by adding a bit of friction to the switch and PCB, less wobble. There are different methods now with different materials that can go all the way with rubber-like pads or mats to get unique sounds out of your keyboard.
If you mean cable, then I am using KBDfans White Custom cable. If you mean stabilizer wire, then I'm using the ones that came with the board. I also happen to holee mod them, I also lubed the stem and housing with krytox 205g0, while I applied parametx grease on the wires.
It wont exactly sound the same or feel the same. But I've modded the same model for a friend with lubed brown switches and foam. They sound really creamy and smooth, personally I think lubed browns sound better.
@@thesocker7920 I heard from others that they didn't get their C1 stabs glued - I think it's overall a mixed bag. From what I learnt was that when you try to use acetone for the glue - try to pry carefully or go under the tab where the stab sits on the plate. Once you're able to pry or push through, you can apply more acetone (it'll spread) so it'll just shimmy right off. It'll save you a lot of time and avoid scratching the plate like I did. Goodluck!
Sometimes keyboards have really tight tolerances - that's really sad to hear that your switch got damaged. There are also times when there would be some sort of factory lube creating a suction with the switch to the plate (with another keychron keyboard). I suggest to work into the tabs of the switches slowly. It'll take some time but it'll be worth it!
There are two versions of C1, one if hot-swappable while the other is not. Please make sure your C1 is hot-swappable before you try to pull the switches out. You can read the description on the backside of the box your keyboard came in (if you still have it) or check the product page of the website where you ordered your keyboard from. Another giveaway is that a hot-swappable keychron keyboard comes with a switch puller. If your keyboard didn't come with a switch puller then most likey your keyboard isn't hot-swappable, in which case you'll need a soldering iron to change switches. If your keyboard is indeed hot-swappable, then it could be the case that you're not pulling the switches correctly. There are two 'tabs' on the top and the bottom of a switch. The trick is to place the switch puller correctly under these 'tabs', pinch the switch puller, and gently pull the switch out. You'll need to pull a couple of switches to get used to this but once you understand the technique, it'll be easy to pull the rest of them. I'd recommend watching some youtube video on replacing switches just so you don't damage the switches.
I learnt how to game before I could type. So naturally I would have my left hand be more dexterous and my right hand be used to holding the mouse :p ✋👆
Проще было докинуть денег и взять K8 Pro в которой заводская шумоизоляция, пбт кейкапы ну и тд. Чем отдельно тратить деньги на этот колхоз, эти свитчи и кейкапы.
