They're not necessary but it might help stop some wobble at the edges of your modifiers, especially your spacebar. Personally I use all long poles with normal stabilizers.

I would definitely go with obscuras, I prefer a higher pitched, more defined sound. Of course, it totally depends on your preference. The CJs are also an amazing switch.
