This is the Mode Envoy, and we built it for fellow content creator AussieAntics!
The Envoy is a really special keyboard. This is the latest 65% keyboard from Mode Designs and it had the task of following up the Sonnet, which is an outstanding keyboard. It follows suit by using some beautiful accent pieces while maintaining a simple design, which Mode has become very good at.

Aussie also wanted something blue and white and I think we picked the perfect match for him here. We also used milmax sockets since the Hotswap PCB isn't available yet and now he can swap out switches at his leisure. Overall this turned out INSANE.

Just saw this (the guy who now owns the keyboard). Have to say for anyone looking at either going through Alex for a keyboard or using any parts in this build I could not be happier. Genuinely blew my already high expectations out of the water. I love it so much. Thanks mate you're a legend.

Well, this video convinced me and I've just pre-ordered the Mirage one with gold weight and accent. Gotta pair it with the POM plate, some gateron Oil Kings and plate foam with TX Stabs. Wish me luck!

I have the mode 65 (the original 65 mode) and it's one of my absolute favorite keyboards i've ever used. i have that along with a few others like the zoom 65 and the wooting 60 for gaming. i definitely love the sound and quality that you get from any mode product. it's an absolute gem and i can't wait to get the envoy. seems like such a gem.

I can't say enough good things about mode. Got my mode80 in before every other groupbuy boards I already ordered beforehand and it's still kicking ass and taking names. Doesn't play nice with millmax sockets for some reason though

you’ve got me curious now, how is it that it doesn’t play nice with mill max? If it’s a clearance issue, there are some relatively new mill max offerings that are shorter in length and shouldn’t cause any clearance issues.

@@ImOnMy116 nah there are pcb's like vega that don't fit millmax, but both pcb's on mode80 I millmaxed had issues hitting multiple keys or some keys like my f4 just didn't fire. Never had this issue with any other pcb I millmaxed

@@ImOnMy116 it was but I found someone to help me solder a wire between the f4 key solder pad and another and it works fine now. The other pcb that fires the entire right side on every key press I need to check broken diodes and may need to bridge 2 pads again. Not sure why but this is also first round of mode80 pcbs, may be fixed in the second and further rounds

@@incongruous4 gosh, yeah, I'd hope if it were a manufacturing defect it was either isolated or sorted by now! I've had to bridge two pins on a PCB, but it was a problem of my own making. Very thankful to have not been in need of split backspace :)

Looks like the head of the millmax socket protrudes. Won't it make the switch not touch the pcb?

It doesn't sit flush with the pcb which can cause issues with the switch not resting properly on the plate at worst but in general it doesn't matter. The only part of the switch that has to touch the pcb to function properly is the 2 metal legs at the bottom of the switch, everything else doesn't matter.

I think it just checks all aspects of a “good” keyboard, i.e., sound, feel, overall design and value as well as “affordability”

I know customs are better over all but would you recommend a crazy or decently flexible board for gaming, does the flex ever get in the way or distract you from your game, so would you recommend the envoy for a custom used for gaming and general typing

Makes no difference at all. Don't listen to marketers saying "this switch is good for gaming and this switch is good for typing" dude they all type letters and inputs the exact same. Pick what you think you will enjoy typing on more. Also, imo flex is overrated and I'm not trying to replicate the flex of cheap $5 membranes on my $500 board but that's just me

you don't have to go with an insanely flexy board for gaming but i will say the flex on most boards you'd probably never notice while gaming or general typing unless you hammer and i mean HAMMER the shit out of your keys.....all it does is provide a slightly softer bottom out so you don't feel like your sinking your fingers into concrete

I’ll throw it out there that it’s hard to get a feel for things unless you’ve tried them first hand. I’m a fan of a softer bottom out, and would say that if you’re used to a tray mount keyboard with a steel plate, almost anything will feel more forgiving than that. Short of a plateless board with a flex cut PCB (e.g. the Thera75 v2, which I personally do enjoy), you’re unlikely to experience anything that has a distracting amount of flexibility.

So where can i buy those switches and do they feel light. I want a nice mix between gaming and typing and smoothness. im getting a tiger 80 lite. I want it to be like a deep thock or poppy build(i love the sound of this videos keyboard). I want it to sound like most of the builds you do. Any switch suggestions.
