This series is all about sharing what other modellers are doing in their workshop. In this episode we'll meet Rob whose building a Beechcraft 18 (not 11 lol), an electric twin-engine design. I'm sure all kinds of models will be featured over the coming weeks and months (and years!) but above all it's going to be interesting with a laid-back approach. With a bit of luck we'll get to see the finished models, if not at the maiden, then in the air at some point

You will love anything based on Ivan plans. I currently own Ivan's original KZ-IV model. One of my favourite planes to fly.

I love the series name Cliff. Perfect. Rob has a nice project going! I love the D18, such a beautiful classic twin. The Du Bro nylon bolts are not hollow if you can get them there. The E-flite D18 has a dual linkage set up for the rudders similar to what Rob is doing. I wonder given the size of his model if two 9g servos, one for each rudder, might be easier. Not much weight, but that far back it may or may not be an issue on a plane that big. I guess it depends on the two motors and the battery placement. The downside to the dual linkage is it is hard to get much throw, and the D18 needs it on takeoff. I really enjoyed listing to you two talk building!

Beautiful BIg Beechcraft bones, Rob! You mentioned at 8:12 in the vid bout the nylon bolt you had selected for the tail mounting was hollow--and that it had snapped. It may be that you'd found such hollow nylon bolts as the ones our hobby suppliers often choose for the purpose of aiding a 'break-away' junction/joint...especially the larger sizes of wing and/or tail attachments. A sort of 'frangible link', so that it fails before the balsa structure suffers damage in hard landings.

I worked on a full size Beechcraft 18 a few years ago, I think they were using it for skydiving. Nice model. Really noisy full size plane though.

Not been in the hobby long, I have a corner of a room at the moment dedicated to model aircraft. I would love an afternoon in that shop. So much rummaging about to do 😂
