For this project, you will need the following :
1.) Model car rubber tires
2.) A 7/16th" socket driver socket
3.) 180 grade fine sandpaper preferably with a sticky backing
4.) A block of MDF
5.) An electric drill
6.) Acrylic paint such as Citadel / Games Workshop, or Tamiya
7.) Various fine and medium paint brushes
8.) A bowl with water for thinning the paint and cleaning your brush
9.) A plate to use as a paint mixing palate
10.) A pair of safety goggles
11.) Rubbing alcohol
12.) Paper towel or a rag
13.) Scissors
14.) Hobby knife
15.) Side cutters
Always wear your safety goggles when you operate drills and other electrical equipment. If you are a child, always ask for parental supervision before beginning a project like this. Electric drills operate at high revolutions per minute and can become dangerous to operate and control for younger users. Also, the rubbing alcohol contains fumes which could be toxic and rubbing alcohol is a poisonous chemical. Proper handling is needed.
The first part of this video shows you the steps to follow to set up your electric drill, socket driver, sandpaper block, and tire as well as the steps used to activate the drill and sand the tires.
The second part of the video shows you how to apply the acrylic paint to the model car tire and how to clean up your painting equipment. This step teaches you how to paint white wall tires, white letter tires and other colors you can apply to your tires with some historical pictures of real world tires from the past.

I’ve seen the technique on hpiguys channel for sanding the tires. Painting, that’s a different story. Love the painting instructions. Never thought of making white walls that way! Keep up the good work!

Try using a Gelly Roll pen (available at Walmart) The "ink" is acrylic paint and you can get it in while. The roller ball tip comes in 3 different sizes and it will not flex when pressed against the tire as a paint brush might.

@MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage 3 года назад
Sounds like a good idea. Have you tried it on a spinning tire before?
@bobschaar5720
@bobschaar5720 3 года назад
@@MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage I have not. Only for white letters so far. I would think, however, that the paint brush technique would work best for the wider white walled tires.
@MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage
@MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage 3 года назад
@@bobschaar5720 I have painted a few narrow tires with a brush using the "Spin" method. I just wondered if the pen would be hard to hold onto with a spinning tire. Wonder if I could experiment with a sharpie? I'll have to try that sometime.
@bobschaar5720
@bobschaar5720 3 года назад
@@MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage probably not if the tire is spinning slow (adjustable speed drill).

I wish I could help you with that, but I don't have any in that scale.

Could use a socket adaptor and a 7/16 deep socket for more room and not have the tire pop off.
@MonsterHobbiesModelCarGarage
Sounds good. My Dad made me some cones that you push the tires down on, but they only fit in a drill press chuck. My drill press broke years ago.
