Apologies for the delay commenting, I got 1 hour in (as far as the start of John’s entrance) on the day this was uploaded, and then “stuff” took over. I enjoyed this - *_long_* - but interesting & entertaining (no JM jokes please!) Thanks to all 3 of you for taking the time to share your thoughts & stories, jog our memories, and supply a bit of escapism 👍 I particularly appreciated the random pictures shown when you were all talking about specific kits - don’t you listen to the naysayers Jason - you keep smashing those buttons Bro! 😇 .

Such a great vid! Met John back in the 90's at WF and we became friends. Bought many of his kits over the years too. Guess I was one of the few that bought Kraven the Hunter. ;) Actually bought 2 of them. Plus 2 of the Scorpion and Daredevil. Also many more kits from John. Remember that Steve McQueen kit? 2 of them too. Painted one for my Dad and got the other in my stash. This was a great interview. Brings back good memories of this hobby. Really LOVE this channel. Both of you guys are doing such a great service to the hobby. Please keep it up. Thank you --Bob Horne Edit: I noticed in the background behind you Jason. Vinyl decals of Tarman and Godzilla. I produce those for Jeff Carlson/Mani-Yack. Love seeing this!

Graveyard Reunion is my favorite. Laugh if you want but I still do use some of the little crappy Testors square bottles of paint. 90% of my kit paint jobs are done with enamels.

Awesome episode guys! So many things I wanted to comment on, but I didn't do my running commentary. Too much going one and couldn't slow down the viewing just to give you my ramblings. :) Interview with John was great. So many memories from my early days at WF. Also, John was a huge supporter of the Clubhouse in our formulative years. Always one of the first to donate a kit for a contest prize. Always on the board answering questions and hanging out with people. Also one of the more level-headed. One thing I do remember wanting to mention. When you were talking about the east-coast guys, and the west coast guys. Don't forget we have a ton of representation here in the great-lakes area. Lots of sculptors and producers from Ohio, PA, and the Chicago area. We're just the chill ones that have twisted creative streaks. We just avoid the drama and just want to have fun and make stuff. As for the hobby. Sure, nostalgia is a huge part of it. That is what originally drew me back in. What keeps me though is the creative zen I have when sitting at my workbench. It's where I can recharge. Where I can forget about all the real-life crap that we all have to deal with. It's where all the possibilities are right there at my finger-tips.

Oh - almost forgot - loved the gallery. It's always great to see the photos from the talented folks who send stuff in to you, but I have to admit I really got a kick out of the MCTV builds - the one by Raphael Chevere had me in stitches - some REALLY nice touches. Mike Dziomba's was great too (that tooth & tattoo - lol).

Enjoyed as always, Wonderfest contest does have a scratchbuilt section... For a Best sculpt, you'd have to have a judge go to dealers, and say what's new this year(and keep track to make sure it's not a reissue or repeat, or people passing off stuff they didn't do, or so many other issues, esp now with 3d printing/scanning), becoming a logistic nightmare. Then. you get into issues of judging a piece, subject matter, acuracy vs style, you would just annoy people too much and honestly it's probably better to stay aaway from claiming anything as best new sculpt of the year at WF(also doesn't help that not all sculptors/dealers go to WF).

Jason, your comment about there being two types of artists is so true. Back when I was a potter/ceramic sculptor I showed my work at around 50 outdoor art festivals. I was the quiet type who thought that if people liked my art they'll buy it. I spent many shows with my booth next to or within earshot of one of the loudmouth BS artists. One painter had this shtick when a woman would go in his booth of comparing their eye color or the color of their dress to the colors in his paintings. He reminded me of a slimy used car salesman. It was nauseating. There were many others who had a spiel, repeating it over and over and over again. They would have been right at home hawking flex-seal or shamwow on tv. And like you said, they generally sold lots of pieces. But what I really hated about some of my fellow artist exhibitors was their behavior when the show was over. It's a total free for all, every man for himself, get the fuck out of my way or I'll run your ass over mentality. One show I did in Florida, a street festival, was extremely hot and humid. This Colorado boy isn't used to that kind of weather and I got heat exhaustion during the tear down and load up. I was throwing up behind my booth, laying on the grass strip and not one other artist even asked if I was ok. No festival staff either. I was literally the last person to finish packing and barely made it back to my hotel, seeing double on the way. Then there was the show in Old Town Chicago where my booth sitter showed up drunk. Fun times in artist land 😜

Watching the newest episode with John Diaz and talking about the clubhouse I would like to ask why are there so many modelers out that don't think women belong in the hobbie I am supportive of Brent and the hobbie that I asked him to teach me and he is doing just that now we support each other in the hobbie I think that if you want to learn no Matter who you may be or what you believe why not and there are still people who believe this person or that don't belong

I didn't even know this was a thing! The mini painting hobby has a ton of women and I never even thought people would be against women being in the hobby. Makes zero sense to me.

@tay13666

Sounds like stupid thinking to me. Anyone should be able to enjoy this hobby. I've seen a lot more women at WF over the years, and I think that is a great thing. I've seen lots of women taking the painting classes as well. First AFM class I was in, the person next to me was this wonderful young woman. Her significant other was taking the sculpting class so she took the painting class to have something to do. She had a blast. I've seen her at the show every year since. Entering kits in the contest too!
