Carmen is that one model who was Gisele's biggest contender. During her prime, Carmen was everything and her catwalk was so powerful you don't almost see her difference with Gisele.
Aizen Knaik omg brought the memories back. Her and Gisele usually alternates opening and closing shows. At one point in 2001 Carmen was the one always closing shows. I love Carmen Better though!
Gisele's career overall is more successful than Carmen's. Carmen however was always prettier to me. She had softer and more youthful features (though a bit teenage than womanly), while Gisele's German ancestry gave her a very defined somewhat manly face structure, with ruddy and freckled skin. In 2001, Gisele hit the peak of her modeling career being booked in almost every major fashion show, but I think from then on she simmered down doing only Victoria's Secret runways, working exclusively for Brazilian fashion house Colcci, and doing occasional appearances in some European fashion runways. She was however very present doing ad campaigns, magazine covers, and other editorials. Carmen, who was also very successful in the late 90s and early 2000s, was continuously a present runway girl especially for Italian Fashion houses, particularly Versace, throughout the 2000s. I remember her being the face of Dior's J'adore, but now Charlize Theron is the icon for that fragrance. I don't remember seeing Carmen's face much in fashion campaigns in the late 2000s other than that 2007 Versace Ad with Kate Moss, Carolyn Murphy, and Angela Lindvall. But of course, photographers always want to make Kate Moss the star (she literally got the centerpiece and a solo shot).
i heard gisele did it exclusively for VS because she wanted a life, she was so exhausted with a lot of jobs,,,,, and i think that was the reason why she got paid a lot coz she started refusing to do work hahahaha,,, VS offered her 25 million dollars thats when it started,,, up until now no model makes more money than her
Carmen is the true embodiment of what someone can become, even if they don't come from a wealthy family. Unlike the models of today, who all come from rich families who can buy their fame.
yeah but she just had alot of luck, I know that because I am from Estonia myself, it just happened that model scout found her from the mall and ofcourse she has been blessed with the most unique eyes and amazing bone structure , nowadays most of the famous models all look the same and most of them are from US ,from rich or famous families, in 90s and 00s supermodels came from all over the world
naomi is from a different generation and there is no doubt about it that she is the best but during the late 90s when both giselle and carmen was on the starting peak together with other models like angela lindval, maggie rizzer , audrey marney, erin o conor... well carmen was one of the best walker same with giselle thats why both of them open and close many shows

Omw I got obsessed with Carmen via Fashion Television and imported Vogues circa early 2000's in Europe. She is such an ambitious versatile model! Love her!!

Gisele's personality n energy were stunning! Her PR skills undoubtedly excellent!...that's probably y she did very well compared to the rest of the top models from her time...carmen is natural..n was born to model...she didnt try too hard to impress...sometimes she doesnt care about modeling so much...she went with the flow...n did her very best on every task given...
Nice video. I've wanted to know more about her early career. I hate to say it now, but she and her boyfriend made a gorgeous couple. Hope it didn't end badly.
