🇵🇭 Anna Bayle from the Philippines started modeling from the late 70s until she retired in 1994. She was known as the First Asian Supermodel. 🔹️ Follow Me Instagram: supermodelsfanatic
Thanks giocurve. Anna Bayle is often overlooked and underrated as a legendary supermodel even to this day. Majority of young supermodel enthusiasts today have no idea how big she really was in the modeling world in the 80s. I feel like Yasmeen has finally received her flowers recently (thanks to youtubers like you for making many videos about her years ago) and it's Anna's time to receive her long overdue and very well deserved flowers.
It’s crazy that not enough recognition has been put towards Anna Bayle, especially with her achievements, what a legend, what an Icon, a True Filipina Beauty.
Anna Bayle ranked among the top 25 Supermodels of the 1980s (as compiled by Harper's Bazaar) alongside Brooke Shields, Iman, Christie Brinkley, Jerry Hall, Paulina Porizkova and, yes, Janice Dikinson. She walked the runway for Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Lacroix, Calvin Klein, Thierry Mugler and many, many more, from HK to Paris to New York. She was one of VideoFashion's Top 10 models of the 1980s. She appeared on the covers of Harper's Bazaar, W, Marie Claire, WWD and more. She appeared in ads for Lanvin, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy and the like. The famous "Anna Bayle Walk" is rumored to be the inspiration for Naomi Campbell's runway walk and has been imortalized in the song "Walk [Paul's Groove]" by Size Queen feat. Paul Alexander. She paved the way for the other Asian models that came after her. This woman is a legend.
Fun fact: Anna Bayle was a Philippine Science high school scholar and was also pre-med student scholar at no less than the University of the Philippines (UP) when the modeling called upon her and the rest in history.
....yes there were other beautiful Asian women who did very well as models before her....and they did open up doors for her....however ANNA was the 1st one to work ....at the level of the true supermodels...doing the same shows....ad campaigns...and media coverage....she is the !st...Asian supermodel....and one of the best runway models in the business....excellent technical presentation of haute couture....and she made it look effortless....she should absolutely teach runway....she is a cultural icon....
Anna Bayle from the Philippines was famous for her tip toe walk, known as the Anna Bayle Walk, perhaps we translate in Filipino as " tingkayad" or "tumiyad" in like walking over rice paddies. Her walk was so distinct it mesmerized the fashion world. A ramp music was composed with lyrics "Walk like Anna Bayle". That means a lot of her unique style, thus, she is the first ever Asian supermodel to walk for the topmost luxury designer brands in the world. She was one of the world's highest-paid models of her time and has collaborated with the top fashion houses. In 2023, Harpers Bazaar ranked her third among the greatest supermodels in the 1980s. " Wiki says. She is the most accomplished Filipino model of all time. Definitely as fashion model icon.
Finally a credible voice to end the whole “whole was the first supermodel” debacle. To be a Supermodel means to have an extreme work ethic and a lengthy catalogue. Which is exactly why Janice Dickinson is indeed, the first SUPERMODEL. Of course there were Top Models like Twiggy, Gia, and others; but like miss Bayle said, those girls either picked between editorial or runway, rarely ever both. Thank you for clearing that up, Icon 👏🏽
Anna Bayle is the one and only Filipina supermodel of the world. Proof are RU-vid videos like this showing Anna Bayle walking for top designers YSL Chanel Dior Givenchy and more. Anna Bayle is the Filipina supermodel of the world.
Melanie Marquez was tagged as a "THOUSAND FACES" by New York and Milan fashion houses in the 80's and competed in WORLD SUPERMODEL. They say she can be a LATINA, HISPANIC, ITALIAN, HUNGARIAN, and MIDDLE EASTERN. Anna Bayle's LOOK IS PURE ORIENTAL!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Melanie Marquez never even landed on fashion editorials such as Vogue, Elle, WWD etc. Wasn't even a Muse of Yves St Laurent, Valentino, Mugler etc. Anna Bayle is a league of her own, Melanie Marquez joined that Supermodel contest, ended as runner up.
Melanie’s modeling career was short lived, her greatest achievement besides miss international was face of the 80s in the mid 80s and a runner up in supermodel of the world, anna bayle was BIGGER than Melanie in terms of being a SUPERMODEL. But I’m definitely a fan of both.
Still attractive, but the FIRST ASIAN SUPERMODEL was darling Soyoko Yamaguchi, from Japan She was Issey Miyake & Serge Lutens ' MUSE, YSL, Valentino and Claude Montana couldn't do a show without her. She's not alive any longer, this is why I write on her behalf, to affirm her important presence in fashion history. Anna Bayle was the catwalk sensation from the Philippines, but Soyoko was a poem in human incarnation.
Unecessarily capitalizing phrase "first Asian supermodel" doesnt make your belief true. Both made an impact or contribution to the modeling world while remaining less recognized than certain peers. These claims are subjective and people that overly promote their group are unappealingly selfish. Yamagachi was older but I dont know the dates she and Bayle were active. Bayle was one of the highest paid models in her time.
