According to my 67 Camaro brochure, the 396 engine was backed with the THM 400 transmission, the 327 engine lasted until mid year 69 when the new base engine was the 307, front disc brakes became standard equipment from 70 on, you could finally get THM on the Z28, in 73 you could have air conditioning in a Z28, thank God they dumped the 4 cylinder engine in the mid-eighties, those cars have been labeled avoid at all cost, so it's come a long way since the 60's

Interesting. I didn't run across anything that mentioned a TH400 for the big block, but it makes sense. I guess I kinda skipped the discontinuation of the 327. I have sources that say the 307 was introduced in 1967, 1968 & 1969. Not sure of why the discrepancy, but I know it was available in 1968. Was unaware of the Z28 getting AC in 73, but I'd rather have that than the automatic. A 90hp 4 seems like a joke even as a base engine in a performance car, but that is was the VW GTI had for a top engine when it first came to the U.S. in 1983. The modern cars are a hell of a lot faster.

Camaro was the only Chevy to offer a 2BBL 327 in '67 and '68. The 307 replaced 283 in 1968 Full-sized, Chevelle and Chevy II. The 327 2BBL replaced 307 as base V8 in 1969 full-sized cars, The THM350 trans. began production in 1969, making THM 3-speed AT available for all smaller engine Chevrolets, including Camaro. 1970 Chevy dropped the 327 V8. New gen Camaro shifted to the 307 (with a THM trans... big improvement over 327 with Powerglide!) The Z28 302 high rev capability was incompatible with AT and AC. It was no longer needed for Trans Am racing homologation. Sooo... Z28 adopted the new for '70 Corvette LT1 350 engine, compatible with AT and AC... much broader market appeal.

Great job on this video. Well researched and enjoyable. Brings back a lot of memories of some of the Camaros I have owned over the years.

The Camaro came out to the public on September 29, 1966. Other special cars were Nickey, Dana, Dick Harrell and Baldwin -Motion. COPO stands for Central Office Production Order, meant for special or fleet sales. You could have a double COPO.

Same they had to put an end to that sort of special order.

@@RoadRunnergarage8570 Yeah, my "short list" should be done in not much more than 4 years. Then I can start on the long list, which keeps getting longer.

Cool. When I first got into models I did a 67-68 Camaro. I guess I would have been about 8 and hadn't even started painting them yet. If I recall correctly it was molded in green.

Loved model cars as a kid. Built a 1969 Camaro painted and numbered to match the Penske / Mark Donahue (R.I.P.) number 6 Trans Am race car.
