I mean this in the most respectful way, as a parent of child with autism and I also have it and then watching Jack's videos and work over a period of time, I can see some similarities and I hope my son grows up to be able to find a hobby like this one.

Great idea about using wedges. I started writing on my jigs so I would know down the road what they are for.

Great video. Yes a jig to hold your models can save time and accuracy. I spent 20 minutes, once, to put back a screw on a coupler's car, because I have the shake on my left hand. Next time, I will prepare a jig to support the car so I can stabilize my left hand with my other hand! A third hand is so often practical. Nice ideas you gave us. Thank you.

Great informative video. Thanx for all you've posted over the years. I may need a jig to help brush my teeth... those that are left.

Another great video! I'm not experiencing problems with my hands, but I will employ these techiniques for better model building. I loved seeing those large orange triangles, brought back old memories! I'm a senior designer for a civil eng. company and I use CAD now, but I did plenty of "board" drafting in the beginning. Newer staff have no idea that the "L" for text height refers to LeRoy. "Who's LeRoy", they ask. 🙂

I have a Tamya paint stand and Jack's car stand is a great idea!

Just to be boring: the ubiquitous New Zealand railways open platform carriages had canvas topped "turtle back" roofs and this has traditionally been reproduced by a balsa base layered with painted tissue paper. Works a treat! I've noticed over the years how wobbly my hands are getting with those finicky jobs; not only is it very frustrating with the immediate modeling task, but also that realisation that I ain't what I used to be... thanks for a wonderful and rather inspiring video

Great video! Clever tips! I'm going to keep my eye peeled for other potential "third hands." A flat stone or small brick is another possibility.

My guess on the hinged jig. A brake to bend brass sheet.

Jack: rescue the YV equipment at El Portel before it is dust!
@yvfan
@yvfan 2 года назад
We were in El Portal on Christmas day and the caboose is getting worse. Myself and some other YV fans helped repaint it in 2006 but I don't think that the park restoration crew used the brand of paint that I recommended and it didn't last very long. Jack

Jack, don't throw your stuff away! Some kid down the line could really benefit from it! Someone else may get an idea and improve on it! You could probably sell your trash! I'll take it and pay for the postage! Hey, you could start selling your old stuff - just tell folks, "I don't want this anymore, or this, or that, and just make me an offer and pay for the shipping and it's yours." I would love to have a trash can of John Allen's old stuff, wouldn't you?
