Model Railways Toy Fair Bargain Hunt: April 2023. In this video Pauline and I visit the Doncaster Toy Fair at the racecourse. See what we bought at the end of the video. #modelrailways #modeltrains #toyfair
Hi, there are quite a lot of fairs this time of year and then we will go six months without being able to attend another! Many thanks for watching Rick
I got some of my earliest models from Beatties. Quite a few of the models we get from shows still have Beatties price stickers on them. All the best Rick
Fantastic show guys, I think I would of spent all my money on those Wrenn loco’s at the start of the video! (This is why I’m not allowed to attend sales unsupervised! 😂) Must say, some great finds at this show, great selection of sales tables and lots of bargains 😊 Thank you so much for sharing 👍 and keep doing what you do 😊
Hi David, yes I know what you mean, I would love one of those Wrenn streamliners. With only around 500 the cost is somewhat offset knowing they will most likely increase in value. Luckily my accountant was with me! Thanks for watching Rick.
Very interesting look around. 😮. It amazing how many second hand models are available, I was surprised by how many. We don't seem to have this big of a toy fair in New Zealand so its nice to see whats there in old Blighty. Enjoyed this video.😊
Hi Rick & Pauline, nice toy fair again, great bargains. Primex is actually from the German brand Märklin, but the cheap version, like Hornby railroad, cheaper finish, old stock. Märklin started the range in 1969 and stoped it in 1992 As for the Jouef cleaning wagon, tip, if you give it some extra wait, it gives more pressure to the rails and thereby cleans better. Of course the fuller the tank is with cleaning fluid the heavier it is the better it cleans. What also a good buy would be if you would get a cleaning wagon with interchangeable wipes to go after the fluid car, it will wipe off the fluid again, with the dirt. Thanks again for the great entertaining video… Cheers, Danny
Hi Rick, sorry I missed your question, I use IPA (Isopropanol) alcohol, the kind you get at the pharmacy for disinfecting wounds, you can dilute it with water, but it's better to use it in it's pure form. I've heard people using break cleaner, but have no experience with that.… And like I sad, use a dry wiping wagon behind it. If you don't, the track will get wet, the alcohol evaporates and the dirt is still there. The idea is that the alcohol losses the dirt and grease, and the whipping wagon absorbs the dirt. I personally use Noch track cleaning pads, you can click on to any wagon you want. And once there dirty, you have to dispose them of course. And a good tip as always, the heavier your wagons are, the better they will clean the rails. I saw also track cleaning rolling stock, that wipe over the rails with sand paper, but I advise strongly against them. Another fun gadget is the Dapol vacuum cleaner wagon, that works quite good I think, the rotating pats not so. But nothing can beat a classic Peco track cleaning eraser.
Miss the toy train fares, always used to have them at Beverley Museum of Army Transport, East Yorkshire years ago. Since that was demolished for a shopping centre 🤦🏼♂️ theres hasn’t been anymore locally.
Another great show Rick, with some good bargains! That blue Lima HO diesel, is a German DB class 218. With catalogue number 201632L. Thanks for sharing guys.
@@wellchuffedrailways Yes. Those early Lima HO locos, shared the same pancake motors as OO. In the late 80's they upgraded their HO range with cast metal chassis, can motors, flywheels etc. And so was the price heavily upgraded too!
Hi Rick and Pauline. The Hornby building in the plastic bag is for hiding a surface mounted point motor. It comes with a protruding arm for moving the point. A wonderful video. The n gauge continental stuff was quite good. Liked the guess on the wrenn steam locomotives. Very collectible for the rich and famous, lol. Great bargains.
I have the Lima track cleaner it’s exactly the same it’s a recent post hornby take over model ,some great selections there nothing around here like it if they did my card would get a right bashing 😂,all the best to you all ,be safe Mark 😊😊
@@wellchuffedrailwaysI did my friend hehe it was wow that’s me ,thanks mate 😊hope your trip to Basildon will happen one day well all have a coffee then and a good chat but don’t tell Bobby 😊😊 in ex Royal Mail 😂
1:17 German class 218 by Lima, in the beige / blue scheme. Based on the box it's a fairly early one. 4:19 Fleischmann rack railway locomotive. The colors are based on the Zugspitzbahn 4:28 Early T3 (class 89), also by Fleischmann. It looks fairly straight so 30 pound is a bargain as most of them have warped bodies. These did share the chassis with the class 80 so the valvegear is not prototypical. The 20 pound one is a looks like a Pt 2/3 (aka class 70) 4:47 Lima baggage car of the Gruppe 26 (1926 design) type AKA 'Hecht'. 5:14 Kleinbahn aka Klein AKA KMB was an Austrian manufacturer of model trains, focusing on the entry level price point. Known for their somewhat weird coupler system (even a 2 axle car has bogies) and absurd motor setups. Still a good entry level choice as long as the locomotive isn't eaten by zinc pest. 5:41 These are the cars that are meant for the rack railway train at 4:19 They also sold a longer type of car in these colors. Roco still sells the rack railway system but uses their own (same type but more detailed) vehicles now in the same color scheme. They are standard gauge. 5:57 The famous Jouef wet clean car. 4 pound for that is a very good find, these are still in high demand. Depending on track type you may need to replace the wheels as they have very deep flanges 8:04 Prices getting into SK800 territory here... 700 pound for a locomotive. 9:38 Fleischmann E10 catalog number 1347 with cast body shell. These were often sold as the pulling power for the Hornby Acho Rheingold cars. It is in need of some touchup work but that is doable with the raised letters on these. Due to their weight they have loads of pulling power. 10:22 Primex once was the budget line of Marklin. They used to have reduced detail compared to the Marklin range, but later used the full detailed locomotives (when Marklin released new tooling for certain models). They still release stuff under that label from time to time to keep the rights to the brand name 22:40 Transformer transport car by Lima, basically a HO model with UK couplers. The same chassis was used for their torpedo car (molten iron transport vehicle) 26:22 That is LGB, not G scale (G scale is a bit smaller as they use the LGB track width as standard gauge). LGB is only scale correct between the various operators as long as they use the same track width. The vehicle 31:11 Streamliner Dining car of the 'Gruppe 39' type. These were designed to match the streamlined class 01 and 05 locomotives, and some managed to hang around until the late 70's. There are called 'Schuerzenwagen' because of the skirts covering the underfloor equipment 31:32 DR-V100, could be Piko or Gutzold
Great video! Love these videos, and love bargain hunting myself! Some of my best bargains are a Bachmann Ivatt 2 DCC fitted for £42 and a Bachmann MPV for £45. Both mint! Subbed!
They are great locos and I'm surprised we haven't bought one yet. I think that will have to be sorted soon. Nice to hear you have some more shunters. All the best Rick
them fleischman blue and white continental coaches @ 5:46 were right next to the steeple cab rack and pinion loco and would have come home with me if i had spotted it .. there is a video on my channel where i service the loco and it is a gorgeous bit of kit
ANother awesome show and again remembering my toy show days. I am sure Ivo Van ZOn will tell you about Primex, but it is Märklin. Originally a budget line, but then became a line they used to release older toolings of models for which they had released new toolings. I am pretty sure they still release things under the Primex name, probably to keep the rights. Again, a wonderful vicarious visit. SO cool to see so many different things and here the stories with them. Edit: When you go to a show, do you have anything specific you are hoping to find or is it more to just look around and buy something that catches your fancy?
Hi Anthony, Ivo is the font of knowledge and it would be very helpful if he would tag along with us. I have a list of things I want but a lot of things we buy just because they are interesting. Thanks for watching Rick.
Primex was Märklin made for a lower price market. It was 3 rail with AC current so requires a Märklin controller. Some Tri-ang coaches were sold with a CKD label which meant that they came as a box of parts to be assembled.
got myself a saddle tank off stafford car boot sale for the pricly sum of 25 pence bought along with three other rolling stoke just one pound could not believe it
Love your browsing videos . Just wish I had a facility to buy 😂. Certainly seem to be keener prices down there than up in Scotland . We only really have a swapmeet three times a year at Callendar , although we have a few exhibitions . I think the next one is Troon . Will be out bargain hunting !
Hi Harry, lots of HO in this vid (we also film the trade stands at exhibitions) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0vBF3ThAETo.html Thanks for watching Rick
