So glad you made this video. As anyone who buys this beautiful boat will have to fully make the keel themselves in a similar fashion. The laser cutting is so poorly done. It does not matter what laser you have anything over ~3mm thick, espically quality hardwoods… really need to be cut from both sides. If it is done in one pass for speed and ease of production…as maris steala does… the top side will always have as much as 2mm or wider scorch at the top with just the width of the beam at the bottom…where they even get full penetration…. This leaves an angle such that the parts will never fit correctly.

I advise you to try replacing the kit before it's too late! The difference is really big. P.S. It is possible to cut a 10 mm walnut in one pass, depending on the type of laser machine - I saw it at another production...

We don't realize by watching your videos how long it will take you just for a video. Constantly stop to place the camera at the right angle, lighting, etc. Thanks Olha, and your job is fantastic. You start to make me want to try a MarisStella kit after a Model Shipways.

As I watched you fit all these parts together, I was thinking about the shipwright that journeyed far and wide through the forest to find a tree for this ships keel, stem, and stern post. Looking for a tree with the right growth habit to strengthen the timbers used in its construction, and fitting. Great content.

Hi Olha, very good video!Very impressive the RAGUSIAN CARRACK, I love it! Looking at your other videos I really liked the one of "ROPEWALK for rigging of scale ship models". It would be very interesting if you explained more about the machines to make cordage. It would also be very interesting to know what types of yarn you use! Thankyou so much for the videos. I have just ordered this kit. It will take a good amount of time to get here but I still have plenty to do on the current build and I am enjoying your build progress. Will you be painting this model or keeping the natural wood color?

Wow - congratulations on your purchase! I have not yet decided definitively about the paint! I can probably make a decision after I finish the hull planking. I want to add details from the American black walnut and if I do not have enough contrast on the model - then I will paint it... Will see how it will be!

Nice and clean work, superb.👌 The famous german author and smart-ass Wolfram zu Mondfeld would have critizised that thickness of the keel varied in reality; becoming more narrow towards stern and stempost. There are tables in his book on ship modelling with correct ratios 😉

Unfortunately, he was mostly wrong with his proportions, or at best was estimating. The truth of the matter is that we do not have firm historical and archaeological data for carracks of this period. There is one, Gribshunden (1495) under investigation off Blekinge in Sweden by Prof. Johan Ronnby of MARIS, Sodetorn University and colleagues from Lund University (Brendan Folley), the Swedish Mars, lost in 1564, Mary Rose, of course, Lomellina of about 1515 in France and the so-called Beste Krafwells of about 1525. Most of these have yet to be fully excavated and documented. Even Mary Rose is poorly documented at the moment. As to historical texts, they become more available at the tail end of the XVI century. We have a few texts with proportions from the 15th, but this is it. So Mondfeld used later practices to describe earlier construction.

Thanks for the clarification, i fully agree with your point. Though, i want to highlight McElvogue's Anatomy of Mary Rose; his archeological drawings give some evidence of Tudor shipwright on that matter. By the way, with my first comment I wanted to emphasize my discomfort with Mondfeld's arrogance...🤭

@@torstenmay204 Oh, I understood you quite correctly! And just added data to your mistrust of Mondfeld :-) As to the Anatomy.... I happen to know that the ship was not completely and properly documented prior to the publications. I am sure he glimpsed a lot of information during his stint working for the Trust. A lot *IS* available on her. Just not all that there is to know about her.

You can try to write to the manufacturer this question. Can they only sell drawings. Since those in the kit - do not have lines to build from scratch!

Подскажите пожалуйста. На кутере настил палубы. У вас первые три ряда крайних идут по две рейки (дальше внимательнее не пересматривал). Эта длина допустима в масштабе, или будете делать потом расшивку на уже уложенные доски?

Да там в основном по 2 доски в ряду и всего пару по 3 бьІло. СамьІе длинньІе в масштабе получаюься 14 м. Тоесть мои доски в М1:48 нарезались из плашки длинной 300 мм. Разшивка по чертежам без всякой закономерности - я думаю ето так и бьІла построена реальная музейная модель Le Cerf. В двух рядах я добавила по одному стьІку (так как на чертеже бьІла цельная доска - а у меня физически не бьІло такого длинного куска самшита да и в то что там лежала 30 м доска - мало верится)... Так что больше добавлять расшивку я не планирую. Уже такая палуба и будет - уже и прогвоздевала ее. Сейчас занимаюсь финальной полировкой)))

Ето мой любимьІй станок. Пока не бьІло своей - я даже просто так ходила в масткрскую к коллегам в Киеве напилить реек в прок - так как просто нравится сам процесс работьІ на старке))) Я решила разбавить всю караку черньІм аменипканским орехом. Из него же и бархоути сделать хочу и мелочевку. Он имеет очень интересньІй цвет - я бьІ сказала бордово-коричневьІй. На его фоне орех из корбки кажется желтьІм...
