Wife and I try to figure out how to fit 2 rear-facing car seats with 1 or 2 additional forward facing car seats in the Model X (7 seater). Tesla referral link: ts.la/brandon1055
LOL I chuckled when he said "that's what convertible means?" bc first time I got a convertible seat for my first kid, only thing that came to mind was transformers. I kept thinking, what does it convert to? LOLOL
I'm liking the two in the second row and one in the third row - youngest in the seat nearest the door (second row), mid-aged child in the middle seat and oldest in the third row far right seat with the second row far right seat down.
Really helpful review- thanks for making this video! I'm making the same calculations in my head as i consider 6 vs 7 seats and your video is convincing me we may prefer the 6 seater. Can't believe all these people in the comments telling you how to parent (you clearly stated why you keep the kids rear facing) and guilting you for having kids 🤦♀️🙄
Thank you for this. I historically considered the Model X out of the price range we would be willing to pay for a car. I go through this car seat circus in my head daily trying to figure out what the best next vehicle for my wife will be. Granted, we do foster care, so our family can shrink or increase on any given day. Being a model 3 owner with currently 3 car seats in the back (2 forward, 1 infant), I look forward to when the model Y comes out with a 3rd row. If they are not rear facing like in the older model S', this video does not give me hope that it help our situation. Currently my wife's "family" hauler is a Subaru Ascent with a bench 2nd row. We both hate it, but it holds 8, and she wouldn't drive a minivan or a Kia Telluride (due to ancient past experiences with Kia). In the Subaru, you can unbolt the 2nd row "40" seat so that kids can climb into the back on their own which is a huge time saver. But if you do that, an adult cannot sit with an infant in the 2nd row to bottle feed (with a 2nd child behind the driver). Sadly, in the more affordable ($40-$50k) price range (aka Subaru) the Honda minivan with the removable and laterally sliding 2nd row is perfect, but lame. Moving up in terms of space, comfort, and price, the revamped 2020 Tahoe/Yukon or Ford Expedition/Navigator is perfect for space, but both are slow, archaic (compared to Tesla), and nearly $80k when all equivalent safety features are added. And at that price, why not go with Tesla...well I guess the Model X is not so great for space sadly.
We did 3 seats with oldest forward facing in the middle and two younger rear facing on the outsides in our Prius V. We get in the front seat with or knees on the seat and and tighten them reaching back from the front seat. Works pretty well.
we'll be going live with 3 car seats this summer. Wife likes to have one seat flat for access to the car seats, so current plan is having two rear-facing net to each other in second row, and oldest forward-facing in the 3rd row with the seat in front of her folded down.
I have a 6 year old and twin 2 year olds. We managed 3 car seats in the Chevy Bolt. Originally two rear facing then all 3 forward facing. It's been fantastic but since they are get older/bigger we bought 6-seater model X for the extra space. Overall the EV market for parents of multiple kids is abysmal. I wanted to wait for Chrysler or VW to release their fully electric vans but they took too long to get to market.
That's an achievement for the Bolt! We do a lot of carpooling, so sometimes we had three car seats and two full boosters in the back. It works but it's cramped. We looked at Pacifica recently, too, but the hybrid doesn't have a 3-seat second row option. The Mazda Cx-90 PHEV is a new option to to the space
Well, I’m looking into a model x or a y. And found out I can remove the 1 seat behind the passenger side so it would be more accessible to 3rd row. It will show an error message on your screen once removed but it will be a better option. I’ll be doing that soon once I ether order the model y or x. But X has that big deep trunk like a mini van.
Forget mini vans look at the Volvo XC90 hybrid. Volvo for safety and they usually do car seats very well (they used to have those pop up boosters). We are a Volvo v60 wagon and model S family.
As someone who was against getting a mini-van I'd say it is 100% worth it. I can't even begin to explain the conveniences that our van has. Also a mini van is far cheaper than a Tesla.... You have kids, get over the fake stigma of a mini-van and realize that a mini-van is a perfect family vehicle. Or if you don't want a mini-van get a suburban.
We tried that recently with a 6 seat loaner and it works well. Problem is, captain chairs don't fold flat so you loose some cargo flexibility for big items, and we do actually use all 7 seats occasionally
I'd vote for the practical rather than be sticklers about staying with Tesla -- get a minivan with a good safety rating. My son has a Pacifica hybrid, rarely buys gas, and loves it. (But his kids are older so I cannot attest to the ability to carry 3 car seats -- but it looks very spacious.) The Pacifica also has excellent media options, which are very helpful to keep older kids entertained on trips -- you will care about that! Tesla simply has not addressed those kind of options. Plus, some cars have dual A/C, seats that fold or can be removed, and other features that really cater to larger families.
Rather than get a car that is less safe than the X. I would go front facing. That way the 5 year old can help with the baby’s bottle and maybe even help with the buckle. I see your dilemma but the X is super safe and other options will not be. A Tesla Mercedes sprinter
This is very informative thank you so much! My husband and I are expecting twins and I’m curious to see how two rotating car seats will look/fit in this car with our 2 older children. May the Lord bless and keep your beautiful little family forever 💗
So far we're making it work with 3 under 5, two rear facing and one forward. We've actually had four car seats in at one point when picking up a friend's kid from school.
We've had a lot of variations. Briefly all three were rear facing in the 2cnd row. Once the oldest was forward facing, she was in the middle making it easier to hand her things, and the 2 rear facing were on the sides. They're now all front facing, but we're having a fourth this week. Older two will now be in the 3rd row, one in a booster the other forward facing car seat. Toddler will be in forward facing car seat in 2cnd two driver side, newborn will be rear facing middle, and the passenger seat will be empty for easy access to third row.
Model X is definitely roomier than Y. If you get narrow seats like Diono you might be able to do three across in the Y second row, or you could put one in the third row
I have a question, I am getting a 7 seater model x this year because we have a new baby coming up on November on top of our 10 year old and 8 year old, we will be using the middle seat for the infant car seat while the two kids sit at the sides with booster seats. I know it's a tight fit but it'll fit. My question may be dumb but I'll ask it anyway, would the middle infant seat block my other kids' view when they are watching movies on the back screen?
We've been doing three across for yrs now and they fit fine. Regarding the screen, I think they'll be able to see, but the side kids may have to lean away or a little forward depending on how tall they are. My wife usually has the infant seat on the driver side so it's more convenient for her putting the baby in and out. Less room for the driver but she's small
@@Teslavangelist thanks for the reply. Yeah it would be more practical to do it the way you do it. But with one being 10 and the other 8… they have been seating on the same side of the car forever, I don’t want to start child traumas now changing their lifestyles. They are having trouble adapting to the new reality that a new brother or sister is coming in November. 😂😂
Is a model X doable with two large rear facing seats and a teenager? Right now the teenager can climb into the back row of our Escalade but only when the baby car seat is out of the car. But that child is about to graduate to a convertible rear facing and then I don’t know what we are supposed to do. What configuration model X could handle that? Would they have to climb through the trunk?
Yes, I have a reservation for the pickup. My wife likes the extra space of falcon doors or traditional minivan doors, so she doesn't really want a regular SUV. Availability of fast charging for rivian is uncertain, too, since they plan to rely on other companies building out systems over the next 10yrs.
@@Teslavangelist I live in Virginia, and Electrify America has chargers all along I-95. Only disappointing thing is the 150kW charging speed, I was hoping for 200kW+ with a 180kWh pack. I'm seriously considering swapping my reservation over to the pickup, and giving my wife the X. We have a Lexus RX that has 180K miles on it, and I hope it lasts a few more years till Rivian starts producing vehicles.
@@Teslavangelist Also if you were to go for a minivan I would recommend the Pacifica Plug in. My neighbor has one and she gets around 25mi per charge, which is enough for her day to day travels.
Umm you’re doing it wrong 🤔 all seats tighten upwards to the shoulder strap. You need to tighten the lap portion and use a strap clamp or buckle to hold the tension on the base. If you are doing a video about car seats maybe best to take it to a retailer with trained installers who know what they’re doing.
Atleast your middle seats are not power like the 6 seater X that I have. Does not fold down! Your 3 year old could be going front facing any day now? Tesla M or Wagon. The X seems good for kids but not babies
Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey are the top two in US. They're basically full vans nowadays, but we're smaller decades ago when they began to be popular. They also used to be much less safe back then, as most vehicles were.
Sorry but they will grow out of those seats faster than you think and once they start learning about the Tesla you will never want to change, Buy the Y.
who puts a 3 year old rear facing? In two years, put the older kid in a booster in the third row. You will still have these issues in a minivan. You may need to consider a sprinter van if you plan on having a lot more kids.
Depends on their weight as rear facing is safer for frontal collisions. Right now we have infant rear facing, 2.5 y/I rear facing, and 4.5 y/I front facing, all in second row
Tesla makes the safest vehicles. Why would you want to put your family in anything else.. Seems like there might be smaller car seats of a different brand that could be used. The Climate Crisis is here now and each day it gets worse. What kind of future will there be.
Teslavangelist mini van sounds better. Pacifica is good i havent seen a lot of the other ones. Honda made good minivans but the pacifica is only plug in mini van i can think of. Then you can dump the x for a model 3
Exactly like wth I have 3 Chico my fits in the all can fit in the 2nd row. But I have 2 in the 3rd and one on the 2nd row behind the passenger seat. So my youngest is on the second row and I can reach back if I’m driving. They were so stressed for no reason
Thank goodness there are people like myself and some of my friends who choose NOT to have kids. On the other hand some people don't know when enough is enough!
Haha what a loser. I hope you contributed to the world in some other significant way, because the most important contribution you can give to the earth is raising good humans to live on after you kick the bucket.
