Select the object. Move the cursor over the lambert and right click and hold. A marking menu will pop up. Select "Assign initialShadingGroup To Selection." Go to amazon and order a three button mouse. Its impossible to work in maya without one.

plz i have a problem to scale a partical like u did in 11:09 , when i select the top cube it select some points in orange color and when i scale it scales too but a little bit smaller , so i cant do like u did :/

I also found out, that I was allowed to take the Mudbox preset human shape and simply import it into Maya for animation. So frustrating, man. I've never done any sort of 3D work outside of Adobe Programs, and this professor expects us to build an ENTIRE video game in 5 weeks.

Can you please help me? I 'm trying to use the vertex command, the outline is red and the unselected 'verties' as you call them are orange. Every time I hit W to move the shape, the whole shape is moving. I would appriciate it if you helped me and also I'm using Maya 2014.
Hello, to create the side view plane, when I set rotate y= -90, the surface of the plane turns black, and it becomes un selectable. Do you know why it happens? I followed everything exactly as the video said...
Thanks, that solved it. Now I can't bring up the lambert window. It just shows a Hypershade window with no lambert. google suggest to reinstall but I'm on free trial. Any suggestions for this?
Don't worry about the hypershade window right now. You can just go to the menu for each panel click on: View>Image Plane>Import Image. That will be the fastest way to bring your reference images into the scene.
