I've practiced arnis for over 20 years, and, I can safely say that this is one of the most relevant, logical, and, appropriate tutorials to show beginners. The first exposure that I had to arnis was in Remey Presas' book "Modern Arnis..." It was THE one source of instruction that was and has been most influential and applicable method I have EVER seen or experienced. I was very sad to hear a few years ago that he passed away...

Nearly 5 years has passed now since I started Arnis and this is the video that inspired me to continue with my sport. I'mma say that I improved a lot even tho I still make mistakes but compared to what I am 5 years ago to me now? Oh my balls the past me won't have any chance at all to the present me. Thanks random guy with sticks in the middle of a field. Much love from the Philippines!💕

I know it's been a few years since you posted this, but thank you! I've been trying to instruct my children in the basics of Arnis (unfortunately there are no schools in this area anymore), and I found your video about a year ago. I've been able to use the video, along with my own knowledge, and constructed a plan for them (and for me) to learn from. Arnis is fun and free flowing.

Not bad! This is a great exercise. In the Philippines, you learn these basics in HS. Girls included. Great way to get thin. Especially the last move. You pass gym if you can do that properly. Thank you for sharing it to the world.

that was one of the best intros i've seen; actually more advanced than any intro; for upgrade, try w/ galvanized pipes on trees, & lots of 'straightblasting' w/ punos at all angles, especially into biting-range, knee, shin strikes

This was a fantastic basics intro to my Kali/arnis/eskrima world about a year and a half ago. Video showcased some good solid content with lots of stuff I couldn't do back then. Great insight for beginners... was glad I stumbled across it back then and again even now.

Kali, an art I began in the mid 80's. And I began it because it was an art that was real and effective. My training has expanded over the 43 years I have trained but Kail was a blessing I found in the 80's and my training to this day has been influenced by it.

I began my journey into arnis nearly 9 years ago and your video was the 2nd video I watched after my very first lesson to help me learn the fundamentals. I started practicing Arnis after watching this video (5 months ago). I don’t have any bag to hit but to practice in the air helped me to improve a lot in the swinging of the sticks. I realized that the 6 strikes in the sinawali are “steps” of the swinging and now i can strike really fast practicing this movement. Doing this would be impossible to me if I haven’t learn to use both hands at the same time too. Also I’ve learned a lot of things about this martial art after seeing this video. Thank you 4 sharing your knowledge, random guy with two sticks in a field !!!
@AB-nb2ic
@AB-nb2ic Год назад
You don't need a bag! I saw a video of a guy practicing by hitting a rope. You don't always need to go hard. With the rope target the aim is precision and control. Back when I practiced Kung Fu our instruction for training at home was to hang a sheet of paper (with a binder clip and string) as our striking target for punches and backfists. The goal, to learn your distancing and develop a snap, was to make the paper pop but not tear it. Best of luck with your training

The one thing that I teach my guys that is different is when they twirl the stick I don't let them open up the hand and take the thumb off. I make the keep a firm grip. It's not as aesthetically pleasing and opening up the hand gives you a tighter roll but I've personal disarmed a couple of guys in full contact stick fights by hitting the hand/stick at mid twirl. (and I've had it happen to me in the early years of training)... But good looking karensa/sinawali.
@elconquistador9921

*thumb and fingers... Some guys will open up the last three fingers and some will open the fingers and loosen up the thumb, taking off the tip of the thumb.

Excellent This is a really great tutorial. Wonder if you’d do another for perhaps maybe 6-10 minutes of just the sinawali, so that we can practice along at a slow enough rate to really work it out. I’ve got the movements but would be useful to practice continually at a slow pace to get it down and to hear any fine tuning commentary you might offer. Thanks and keep up the great work !!

I'm still new to the arnis but I love training with them daily and I love doing the drill at the end I can go hours and it'll feel like a few seconds because of how focussed I am with it all ... The way I am being taught is if I hurt myself with the arnis move that part away slightly... This is where regular movement comes in such as stepping and doing things at the same time with the sticks... I used to keep hitting my legs but then I started just moving around a little and it feels great not to have brouses on my legs 😂
