Here we have yet another Otis Black Button in Cleveland. This particular one is located in a Historic Office Building from 1917, however in the 1950s, Otis came in and fully modernized one of the elevators in an Otis Black Button. And even though the elevator dates back to the 1950s, this elevator is in EXCELLENT Condition! The fixtures look like they were just put in yesterday and somewhat recently, the cab was redone and it looks much more modern than rest of the elevator! I am glad that this elevator wasn't modernized again beyond the cab however and despite the cab looking Newer than rest of the elevator, the Black Button fixtures do fit in pretty nicely with it IMO. This thing also goes VERY FAST for 5 floors too, and despite the fact that this elevator has the Late 40s/Early to Mid 50s style Otis indicator, building sites claim this building was renovated in 1960. I'm not sure if that's when this elevator was actually modded or if the building wasnt actually renovated till after the elevator was modernized/Replaced, but still worth noting. Another really cool thing about this elevator is that despite having been on plenty of Black Buttons at this point, this was my VERY FIRST Otis Black Button with the CIRCULAR Roto Dial Indicator on the outside!!! And OMG was it so cool and fully working! And the outer doors from the original installation look absolutely gorgeous and just top this thing off! Also, notice that the call stations only has 1 indicator from 1 elevator on it and that there's actually 2 elevators in the bank. I wonder if the other elevator is an Original Manual Elevator, but sadly I didn't get to find out for the reason below....
For those wondering, yes, I did get busted at the end. The guy inside the building was actually very nice about it and I had a pretty good conversation with him after he told me to stop filming, but basically he didn't want me filming as he was worried he'd get in trouble with his boss. I couldn't completely tell if he actually worked for the property or if he was just simply a tenant in the building, but regardless, at least he wasn't nasty about it. But do keep this in mind if you want to film this elevator.
All in all, cool elevator that I'm glad I got to see, even though I got politely told not to film at the end.
And with that, I hope you enjoy the video!
Installed in 1917. (Manually Controlled Otis)
Modernized in Circa 1950s or 1960. (1 of the elevators fully automated and modernized by Otis with Black Button fixtures, New Cab, New Motor & New Controller. Outside doors left as is.)
