ONE QUESTION: if the families know they’re being filmed (they talk to the camera), why don’t Phil and Luke just ask for the tape instead of trying to recreate the basketball headshot move?
Because they think they are being taped only when they talk to the camera, not while they live their lives. It's different from The Office. The characters never break the fourth wall when they're not sitting on a couch and talking directly to the narrator.
