I know you probably get told this all the time but your carpentry is absolutely amazing, the short but insightful videos you put on here are a inspiration to all us pretenders out there, keep up the great content robin, house looks fantastic by the way
Amazing doors , love them , with a cordless drill hammer and chisel drill bits and like you hand screw driver , I could do a Chubb five lever mortise lock in 12 minutes and that’s with the striking plate and never had one bad Chubb lock .
This guys like the tradesman of all tradesmen. Does everything to perfection and takes pride in his work. You know you'll get a top quality job if this guys doing the work for you.
@@vicinglis3736 Hi Vic did you hear me talk about how they will perform thermally? these are really well air sealed and the thickness and lamination provides great thermal properties, thanks for your comment and watching
@@ukconstruction oh yes understand all of that from the first time you presented the earlier video but with the new proposals (originally tabled for discussion pre covid ) the uk construction industry via TRADA was being 'asked 'to consider heat loss via openings as per the 2018 European directive in that ... Quote..... Domestic and non domestic 'openings-main or subsidiary 'prevailing/ regional climate should be considered along with screening or protection, canopy, covered way, porch arrangements and or vestibule to prevent heat loss, close quote. In Scotland even Planning has decided to 'take an interest' in door or openings. Strange people getting involved. NHBC have been know to comment. Still we shall soon be out of Europe and the weather is so much more friendly to us down south. No problem with the doors , interesting construction just watch out for the heat police but then the next Climate conference is in Glasgow some time in the future . As all way enjoy your presentation ready for the next one
@@skiiddy when I asked my boss back in the day. Why I had to make sure all the screws were straight up & down, He told me it was to stop dust gathering in the screws on sockets/switches/anything. 🤦🏼♂️ I believed that for years and I mean years! I'd no reason to doubt his word! But hey I still do it to this day 😂 Just incase you get a big build up of dust 🤣
No need to keep apologising for video quality (it's totally fine) it's the content that matters, and yours is always top notch! Thanks for sharing years of knowledge.
Worth every penny, you should be proud of yourself and every time you walk through those doors you should smile to yourself and think,I made them, can’t buy that feeling,Well done mate👍👍
Don’t worry about the quality of the sound or picture, they are perfectly adequate. The content is what matters and that is excellent and informative. Thank you.
I was also taught to flat head vertical. Trouble nowadays is that in some cases its impossible to get that vertical alignment with machined bolts and sockets.
There’s always something special about a beautiful piece of hand-made custom work. The more I spend time with the trades and understand the value of experience and something unique, the more I realise it’s priceless. It’s never quite as expensive as it seems when you factor in the day rate, which is of course entirely reasonable.
Watch The Lock Picking Lawyer to see how secure (or not) Banham locks are! Indeed used to have them on my old house front door in North London plus their sash window locks.
Holy shit that's some expensive doors! Errr... I mean they look great, and those hinges look amazing, and they'll probably last for several decades... lovely work!
Perfect beautiful doors. Absolutely priceless. People will say ‘woah that’s expensive... but they’re gonna last a lifetime and then some. Loved that video Robin, thank you for the insight!
Lovely doors. I've worked for a door manufacturer for 13 years now and it's very expensive what you have paid for your materials! Probably because it's one off purchases. The only thing I'd have done if it were my doors were to use a Winkhaus Bluematic multipoint electronic lock. Worth checking them out
Hi Robin, these doors are a true work of art. Such skill and attention to detail. You're right, It's a carpenters house so the doors reflect that. Super impressed. 👍
Don’t get me wrong amazing doors but Jesus that’s a lot of money but most certainly worth it when you made them I was having a RU-vid debate with a guy that said they would warp a lot I bet he’s not so sure now. Great job robin you’re an inspiration to us all
Stunning bespoke doors! We all try to create perfection, but as we know, this doesn't exist only excellence....and these doors are just that!! I love working with wood also, I'm nowhere near anything close to your skills, and I watch closely all your work, I would gladly work a week with you for nothing just to learn more!! Lol Keep up the good work Robin 👏
Great piece of carpentry art! Congrats on a truly outstanding job, something I am sure you will be able to admire and be proud of for many years to come! Thanks for sharing Robin.
Worth every penny. I paid £2400 for a rockdoor composite half that size with a couple of half fan lights and its garbage. The bespoke aspect is on another level.
Those doors have come out really well. That’s inexcusable customer service and quality considering how much those locks cost. When I was living in London you could tell if you were in a nice area if all the doors had Banham locks haha.
Robin apply your expert tendencies into video making, doesnt have to be expensive, a shirt mic and a decent camera will allow you to put across your great content better, i really enjoy your videos and also enjoy the fact you clearly adore your craft.
Thanks for your comment, I have recently started using a new Rode mic set up and I am slowly getting the hang of it!! hopefully I will learn how to improve it all as time goes on
Hi robin , lovely job, never seen those hinges before, remind of SOSS hinges, Also robin that type of dimple cylinder lock is very vulnerable to impressing . Which I’m not going to talk to much about, I know you’re a joiner like the famous joiner Joseph Brahma who saw the weakness in cylinder locks. Two hundred years ago, . BANHAM need to up there game to stop this really easy form of mechanical impressing.
Hi Robin absolute class, you are at the top of your industry, beautifully constructed doors and frame, handles are just the finishing touch. The polishing was first class top marks to that man. Lovely to see some of the ironmongery having slotted screws can’t beat them. It was an pleasure to see this whole process an for you to share your knowledge. All the best Tony 👍 have a great week
Absolutely stunning! When factoring the costs you have 2 doors here. Most average upvc companies supply and fit 1 composite front door for around £2000 mark. This including labour is extremely good value for money. I'd even say those doors are an appreciating asset! You're a very wise man Robin. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Amazing work the end result is well worth the time and expense. Great advertisement for your many skills too. Thanks for taking the time to film. All the best Pete 👍
Good quality doors & work costs but at least you can feel sage in the knowledge that your main entry point not looks great but is as secure as can be. Thanks for the share.
Wow, they are a thing of beauty, in both firm and function. Really appreciate your generosity and desire to share knowledge. Love the channel, so helpful.
@@sethburgess8211 You can find these chisels under "Oire Nomi" name on eBay. Japanese bench / carpenter chisels. You can see some close up footage of them being used on my channel. There will be a video of sharpening them soon. Regards, Jenobence 3House.hu
Beautiful bespoke doors. I thought the final price would’ve been a lot higher. Exceptional craftsmanship and very inspiring for us mere mortals. Love your videos, learn so much. Thank you for sharing 👍
I'm new to carpentry/woodworking and your videos on this channel and on Skill Builder are absolutely fantastic. Love seeing the pride and craftsmanship you put into your work and you're a wonderful teacher! I can only wish for a teacher like you when I do my carpentry training next year! Beautiful doors and hardware too! 🙂
@@ukconstruction Hi Robin. Nothing booked just yet but I was planning to train at Able Skills in Dartford. Heard nothing but positive things about them! An apprenticeship would be lovely but unfortunately it's just not realistic. I've done a short introductory course elsewhere to get a taste for it and it feels like something I'd really enjoy doing. I've wanted a career change for a while now and I feel like learning a trade is something I should have done from the start! But even just learning for its own sake would suit me still! Just saving some money first and convincing myself to take the plunge 🙂
Just finished watching this as I am a new sub, surprisingly I had the exact same issue with a electronic lockset I installed recently no female threading I ended up tapping it as the client had purchased it online and there was a issue returning them, (they wouldn't take it back!).We have a fellow over here whom has a utube channel called the lock picking lawyer maybe you should send him a banham lock since he gets 750k average views per vid : }.
One modest fella, well done with the doors. They look fabulous and give a grand appearance on entry to your lovely home. Maybe one day us carpenters can get that sort of money pair day in N.Ireland🤔...
I thought he was a Mexican in America at first. I can't hear this one) Looks fantastic. I saw him do the old shingle green garage door replacement and was impressed. Then slowly it dawned on me that this was that same bloke. (I am too dim to become a carpenter I suppose. . Please buy a good microphone!
Love the doors. They wouldn't be out of place on Ron Burgundys house. Think I'd have gone for a more rectangular pull handle, still lovely though. Top work Robin.
They look amazing and the cost is relative to the building, you wouldn’t spend £5k on doors for a standard 3 bed in Hampshire! This project needs to have statement handcrafted doors like that. Great job Robin
Hi rob , love the channel & more importantly love the doors , your work is spot on the only thing with the doors that I wasn’t expecting is you using mitre bond on the joints ! I’m not sure if that would hold tight after a few winters & hot summers !!
Stunning…….I think the handles are one of those ones where, as you’re about to start the physical process of fixing them to an otherwise complete door, as a carpenter/joiner your internally praying/debating that you’ve got this call right and that they look as good as you’ve mentally envisaged. As anyone who works the trade for a living will tell you, it’s heart breaking when a customer commits you to putting on something you really know isn’t gonna work, especially on an other wise finished item like a bespoke front door. I think you pulled it off with these handles, you’re method of secret fixing is quite something too. Great video. I think the final costing is very reasonable indeed. You get a company to manufacture and fit these for you and I’d think you’d be looking at closer to double that.
Possibly the nicest doors I've ever seen. What a setup. Its a shame you're not nearer the west mids! Would love to have you working on our extension next year.
