Difference Modes of Standby Database

A standby database is an operational secondary copy of a production or primary database, usually located in a remote server. In the case of a failure at the primary site, the standby site can immediately be activated with minimal impact on business operations.
Primary Database: PRODUCTION
- read & write mode
Standby Database:
- MOUNT mode
3 Modes of Standby Database:
a. Maximum Performance (Worrying about PROD database performance not about data)
- Minimal data loss
- redo/archive will apply from PROD to DR
- PROD & DR may or may not be in sync
b. Maximum Availability (Worrying about DATA but not performance)
- No data loss
- Tx apply in a SYNC mode
- PROD & DR are always in sync
- PROD will send data to DR and DR has to send ack back to PROD (wait for 60 sec & if DR did not se ack, DR will be come Maximum Performance)
c. Maximum Protection (Worrying about DATA but not performance)
- No data loss
- Tx apply in a SYNC mode
- PROD & DR are always in sync
- PROD will send data to DR and DR has to send ack back to PROD (if DR did not se ack, PROD will be hang)
