Heard this on Sirius at around 630 am this morning.. As soon as it was over, I went to you tube and played it in my car 4x. Texted my 17 yo daughter about it..She is like...That is one of my favorites..Felt like a hip Dad for 2 minutes.. priceless..

You'll never convince me that Modest Mouse hasn't always been a funk band at heart.

If I were banished to a desert island and told I could have the entire discography of one band to listen to forever, it would be Modest Mouse. Their whole discography runs the gamut of human emotions. I've laughed, I've cried, I've felt strong and weak. I love it. Greatest band I know. Come back to Red Rocks! Denver misses you!

I like to think that every Modest Mouse fan fishes or at least fantasizes about fishing.

I love the Chorus of this song, it sounds like the entire band is going one way, but then Issac's voice goes a completely different way, like it's pulling in the opposite direction. I don't know if it was intentional or not but it makes for a very exciting dynamic.

My Grandmother died the year this song came out, and I loved her dearly. She was a parent to me. One of our favorite things to do together was to rake up leaves together in her large yard come autumn. The line about the "trees turning colors now" always reminds me of those days in the fall where we worked together, gathering up leaves colored red and gold. I still miss those days, and this song if only for a few moments take me back in time to before she passed. This song is painful to listen to, but I love it all the same.

That bass line is groovy

Modest Mouse once again telling us about our never ending f*ck ups. Thank you for keeping us modest.

Listening to this song is like staring at the sun, I do it all the time and will never regret it no matter what anyone tells me.

"Our predecessor left this box, and something's clawing around. I think it really wants out." This is such a deeply human line. I feel like it's about the things our ancestors did "for us", that horrify us and threaten to destroy us... But we simply can not ignore forever. Or maybe I'm just thinking too hard, and it's just about the faults we inherit from our parents.

Strangers to Ourselves seems like it has a really cool groove. Excited to hear the album in full next month and to see them on the Tonight Show too!

It's peculiar how the tone of this song changes based on your own emotional-state. It can be sad for you if you are sad, or it can share in your happiness when you are happy.

Saw this song live tonight in Seattle, and couldnt be happier. Always a favorite, a fantastic energetic song!

It's disheartening when people want the same album over and over again. "This doesn't sound like their third or fourth album and that's my favorite one" --stop you're doing it wrong. Each new album should be a step forward for the band, they worked hard and have completed something that IS Modest Mouse. If you don't like it, fine, but don't expect bands to put out the same shit year after year. Let bands create! Give it a chance - then give it a second chance!

It sounds like The Talking Heads and Onigo Boingo made love with their sounds!

The impression I get is that the songs on Strangers (including the ones that haven't been officially released but were played live before) kind of bridge the gap between Moon&Antarctica and Good News. There's an obvious pop sensibility to everything, but the variety is much larger and more impressive, and certainly more daring, than what was on the last two albums. There's also an overarching melancholy to all the tracks- not uncommon from MM, but it's hard to say Good News wasn't their "happiest" album, and this feels like a much more angry, bitter Good News. I'm not knocking that. I want that.

Let it be known across the land: "THIS IS MY JAM"

Ah, this song is incredible. The Moon & Antartica is my favorite album of all time, (I think I've probably listened to it close to 500 times) but all indications to this point make this album seem potentially as good. Awesome to see they're releasing it on Glacial Pace as well.

I realized recently that Issac lives less than 10 minutes from me and have passed his place in Portland many times and didn't know. He has put the house up for sale but would routinely leave his front door open. People would wander in an just say hello or strike up a conversation with him. A reporter realized this when she went to interview him. She said he barely looked up from whatever he was reading and after a few minutes exclaimed "oh, I have an interview today".. he did say he's chased 3 people out with an axe and did become tired of the neighborhood. Still, it's pretty cool how chill he was in the neighborhood.

This whole album is nostalgic, and reminds me of the times I would sit on my dad's lap and watch Modest Mouse music videos, or go on road trips with him. That's strange. This came out in 2015. I haven't done that since 2012. I even have a false memory of listening to this song and Sugar Boats with him...

I heard that they already had written enough songs to do two albums when Strangers to Ourselves was released. It's 2020 please put it out :( This year sucks god help us all.

for some reason I was really upset when I first heard this album, I just expected something more. But modest mouse is modest mouse, I started listening to them when I was 13 and now I'm 21. This is the first album that has come out since I was a kid, and I guess I expected an evolution of the band or something, but I've listened to the same albums over and over again through my formative years and I realize that the albums weren't all that different-I love some songs, I go back and find new songs I hated before, the songs I liked before I don't like as much now, but it's still all modest mouse, and modest mouse is an entity that exists in itself, and this album is another great addition to their collective work. now kids in 2015 learning to love this band have six instead of five albums to listen to over and over again, and I'm still happy I had five

SICK song...resonates of old school, but still has the modern modest sound too. Sounds like they took riffs from the days of Long Drive and added a modern funk, I love it.... I pre ordered the vinyl; I can't wait to get it! Rock On!

I don't consider myself the biggest Modest Mouse fan. I like them, just wouldn't say I love them. However, I've listened to this song at least ten times today, so I am at least infatuated. God, the groove.... In this song I taste elements of so many classifications of rock and pop, and that up-and-down rolling bass makes me thing of first wave ska, but with a healthy post-punk sprinkling. This song lacks nothing. True artistry.

This is probably my favorite out of the tracks they've released from the new album so far. One thing that is getting to me though ... does anyone else think the mix sounds too "centered"? Maybe I'm just tired, or maybe I've been listening to too much electronic music lately, but it just seems kind of flat listening in headphones. I mean, even "Dashboard" to me sounds a lot brighter and more lively. Oh well, still love it. I just wish there were more movement and spread in the sounds.

I'm a long time MM fan, and I've wanted like crazy for this new album to be good, so I've been looking for reasons to like "Lampshades On Fire" and "Coyotes," etc. But I don't have to look on this track! This is just straight up excellent, well-written, jam-able musical sexiness. SO WORTH the 8 year wait!

If I want to hear something that sounds like LCW and early MM I...actually....wait for it...listen to their early albums! This is great. I have really liked each of the releases so far. I'd say for all the people complaining about this being far off from the classic MM we still have to hear the album from start to finish before you can write any of these tracks off. In context with the entire album I'm sure each track will feel completely different.
