Matthew 5:33-49. Intensity or Leniency
Which is easier for you to follow, Old Testament laws or Jesus' commands? Which laws or commands are the most difficult for you to follow consistently?
When have you ever wondered, "How can I get out of doing what God says about ____?" Were you looking for a loophole to avoid the command or a way to compromise in order to make it easier to comply?
As Jesus' followers, why is it more important that we increase our intensity in trying to obey God's commands vs. seeking more leniency?
When you "swear to God" or make a similar oath, what does it say about your personal integrity and the trustworthiness of your own words?
In situations where you feel persecuted or mistreated, what does love require of you? Describe a time in the past week when you succeeded or failed to love someone who was treating you badly or acting foolishly?
In this life, perfection is not attainable, but it is approachable through Jesus. As you live your life, what does being perfected by Jesus look like to you?
