One of India's best-known journalists Vir Sanghvi speaks to Barkha Dutt on his memoirs- 'A Rude Life' spanning decades of contemporary politics and the people he met and knew along the way. #VirSanghvi #NarendraModi #BarkhaDutt
If I had a penny for every time I heard 'Modi hater'.. The man is doing disaster after disaster and bhakts have only one narrative - all are 'Modi haters'.. Buddy, some of us don't give a damn about him. Our world's don't revolve around him like yours does. Our only concern is that he is destroying the country - in every way possible.. That's the only reason he is even mentioned anywhere.
@@mrgyani tell that to the two people in this video discussing about many things and somehow out of everything "like you mention -world doesnt revolve around modi" decided to the title the video on modi
Sorry I don't endorse Modiji... However compared to all politicians he has done more good to India than his predecessors... lies is spread by media to confuse and spread fear in common man... The fact is there are forces controlling all of us thru various means and media belongs to those forces..... Believe it or not left up to each individual
It is not only Modi, but we even ordinarily folks hate the media who always takes sides. Professional journalism has been thrown out of the window. The media has really lost it credibility. I stopped watching TV news channels and also stopped buying newspapers. It is waste of time!!
@@kavisiddu someone's views about media is distastefully used to determine his/her age. The junket of 60-70 ace journalists flying to foreign destinations, their lodging and sumptuous dinners/lunches used to be sponsored by Govt ( we tax payers) so that they can cover foreign trips of Prime Minister. Where will be their objectivity in reporting issues ?? when they have already sold their souls for foreign trips and bottle of liquors
@@rahuk9369 Boss. There is no need to see the whole program. The very existence of Barkha Dutt as a journalist is to harm my country. We have so many proofs. She deserves condemnation.
The country pivoted Vajpayee to centre, Modi has pivoted country to the right. Another astute line by Barkha after, The media in India right now is either chamcha or morcha. Absolutely love these effortless insights by Barkha.
Both these interviewer and interviewee were minister-fixers in UPA era, as per Radia tap leak. Both were notorious characters in that tap. And now their privacy is under threat - Privacy for Power Broking ? See their audacity.
@@kavisiddu Vir Sanghavi & Barkha Dutt can pontificate that 'Caesar's wife must be above suspicion' for everyone except themselves. Since when journalistic ethics are guided by courtroom decisions? This is on record confession from Barkha Dutt - she appeared in NDTV show and called it ' error of judgement' for the same so called doctored audios, though everyone knows that she went beyond her brief as journalist & acted as a conduit between DMK camp and Congress, when everything was 'on sale' including ministerial berth. Same is the case of Vir Sanghvi, he apologized for pre recording of his interview with Mukesh Ambani. All these confessions had happened after the so called doctored audios came to public domain. None of ace journalists have ever denied that these conversations had never happened. The Govt agencies had merged the audio recordings of several days in few CDs & in a very technical sense it is said 'doctored'.
@@bharatsrivastava3964 Most of the times journalists are used as conduits by politicians and businessmen..it is not new in India and it is true even today.
Yeah, a lot of mess happened earlier, but what is happening now in the modi era is superlative. And of course, everything is excused by his loyalists as this regime has given legitimacy to Muslim bashing, which thrills a lot of people.
Barkha Dutt, whose journalism is endorsed by none other than Hafiz Saeed ( Mumbai attack master mind & among the top of world terrorist ) and admired her, must have amazingly fascinating talk
@@navazmody8671 compared to current media standards and the fake news spin from the likes of Godi media then relatively speaking they appear more truthful. About the absolute truth who knows?

PM Singh was the best. If you want charismatic then you are paying price for it now. Dr. Singh was the silent hard-worker. If corruption allegations were true, how come no one is behind bars. People were fooled big time and are now paying over 100 for petrol diesel and Home-oil at 220.

Very interesting interview, and very informative, especially for those who lived through the 70s, 80s till now. I'm sure Vir Sanghvi's book will be eminently readable.
Really loved the discussion between the two seasoned journalists. Enjoyed the entire show. Loved the conversation about Amitabh Bhachan @11:06 and Manmohan Singh's relationship with media @29:51 .. @31:19 .. @31:55
Really loved the video and discussion in an extremely tough times that we live in... looking forward to reading the book...!!!Great work Mojo Story and Barkha Ma'am...!!!
Congratulations to you both stalwarts. for such a meaningful discussion.. Good luck to ‘A rude life’. Hope to read it sometime. and a lot more luck and prayers to you both to keep up the fight to bring the fourth estate back on its feet to sustain democracy.
What a brilliant conversation between two great journalists..as one who has followed Vir Sanghvi from his days as Editor of the Sunday magazine, I was looking forward to his thoughts on the current issues in India and I must say I was delighted by the quality of the conversation.. very good insights into Manmohan Singh and the faltering UPA days..I like Vir Sanghvi for his dispassionate style of dissecting the past without letting it being clouded much by his own opinions or judgement.. ditto for Barkha Dutt..his analysis of Mr Modi and the reasons for the current disarray in the Congress is also spot on..as for the attacks on both the media stalwarts by the trolls, that is to be expected nowadays considering the current state of affairs in India.
It's always interesting and enriching to hear you Barkha . Your provocative no holds barred approach is the adrenaline that the mainstream media desperately needs One question I thought you needed to ask Vir Sanghvi is why he's so fascinated by the word RUDE Rude Food and Rude Life It will be Interesting to know
Barkha, you generally do great stories. Would like you to cover the farmers protest more with the same courage and honesty as you have recently covered COVID deaths and the government coverups in India. Wish you continued success.
You are asking too much my friend.. She is a vulture journo.. She didn't say a word about Danish Siddique's cold blooded killing by Taliban. Taliban pulled him out and shot him. To confirm the death Talibanis mowed his head by their vehicles.. But Burkha has no comments..
Vir Sanghvi in his book as memoir shares his private conversation with Murali Deora on tragic untimely death of Sanjay Gandhi ( as per him, Murali Deora used crass words ). The motherload of hypocrisy is; Vir Sanghvi is sharing a private conversation in public domain to sell his book but in same breath he accuses Radia tapes as invasion of privacy.
There is no hypocrisy. The Radia tapes were not leaked for the purpose of writing a book and all the main characters in the tapes were alive at the time of the leakage of the tapes. Of course the leakage of Radia tapes did a great service to the people of the country. Life most of the times is shades of grey rather than white or black.
@@Achintyanath There is an obvious commercial intent in writing the book therefore please don't attach any morality to it. Vir Sanghvi hadn't taken any consent from Murali Deora to reproduce the statement after his demise. Therefore conversation between Murali and Vir remains privileged private conversation which later shared in public domain & it hardly matters whether the information shared is in CD or book. That criticism of Radia tape was also that consent is missing
@@bharatsrivastava3964 Writing a book for commercial intent with details about dead people is very different from creating a scandal by tapping private phone conversations and leaking them. You don't need to believe in the concept of morality to understand that.
@@Achintyanath what is the morality in referring privileged private conversation when the person concerned is unfortunately not alive to defend himself. Can VS provide any substantive evidence to prove his point, what if such conversation had never happened & commercial intent is the only motive to sensationalize the fictitious incident. Had VS made the disclaimer (at the time of Mr S Gandhi's demise) to Mr Deora that any private conversation would be reproduced in future, perhaps Murali Deora wouldn't had used such crass words, which metaphorically it is treachery and back stabbing. At the risk of repeating myself, the Radia tainted journalists of inferior morality had complaint that their consent wasn't taken & the same very question Mr Murali Deora is asking from his grave.
This interview seems to show that even critical policy decisions even at the top most level are usually made by certain individuals relying on their shear subjective judgements and mediocre personal world view... The wish to anyhow gain power employing petty cunningness has overcome everything else in every walk of life, especially of politicians, journalists and, as I now realize, even the beurocrates. This lack of objectivity and, thus, ignoring the meritorious in the society has led to unwanted complications and impeded progress in all spheres today...
It was Karan Thapar who provoked Narendra Modi in a personal interview about Gujarat riots and from there on he stopped giving interviews, because he knows, some journalists would be ready to pester him on that episode at the drop of a hat. There are so many journalists who would never try to understand his side of the story. And now it is too late, he has already made up his mind.
Vir Sanghvi, s business interviews titled " Men of Steel " ( 2009..I think) was a Gem of a Sweet Book.. I am sure this one also will be a sweet companion of thoughts, anecdotes, wisdom from his journalistic endevours... It defnitely wont be..RUDE.. at all..

Particularly despicable to show the buried dead in pictures at the end, desecrating the privacy of the Hindu deaths. Slanting the covid response responsibility to the central government when the state governments did a pathetic job. As always Burka Dutt never disappoints in her Hinduphobia.
@@KarandeepSinghK obviously not since my comments did not refer to Modi. The photo collage shows a tiny subset of Hindu “graves” in saffron with incense. This sect follows this practice as usually Hindus cremate the dead. Like pictures all over the media of Hindu crematoriums and no graveyards of other faiths disrespecting their dead, the selective disrespecting of Hindus is what I am referring to. Barkha a a track record of Hinduphobia and a soft spot for Islamists and Terrorists. Her justification of the Kashmiri Pundit Genocide by blaming the Pundits would be akin to blaming the Sikhs for the horrendous targeting of our Sikh brothers and sisters during the 1984 “riots” by Congress Goons. For the record Hindu congress workers refused to be involved in that revenge criminality for the assassination of PM Indira Gandhi.
Delhi 1984 and Gujarat 2002 are prime examples of how dangerous it is to hand real political power to people with no experience in exercising that power. Then again, there's the examples of Demonetization and Covid management, despite more than a decade of governing experience coming into the top job. The Radia Tapes opened the floodgates to the gutter that the media has become today.
